Effects of aflatoxin B1 combined with ochratoxin A and/or zearalenone on metabolism, immune function, and antioxidant status in lactating dairy goats

        Huang, Shuai,Zheng, Nan,Fan, Caiyun,Cheng, Ming,Wang, Shang,Jabar, Adil,Wang, Jiaqi,Cheng, Jianbo Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2018 Animal Bioscience Vol.31 No.4

Objective: This experiment investigated the effects of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) alone or mixed with ochratoxin A (OTA) and/or zearalenone (ZEA) on the metabolism, immune function, and antioxidant status of dairy goats. Methods: Fifty lactating Laoshan dairy goats were randomly assigned to one of five treatment groups (n = 10) for 14 days. Goats were fed no additive (control) or administered with $50{\mu}g\;AFB1/kg$ dry matter (DM) (AFB1), $50{\mu}g\;AFB1/kg$ $DM+100{\mu}g\;OTA/kg$ DM (AFB1+OTA), $50{\mu}g\;AFB1/kg$ $DM+500{\mu}g\;ZEA/kg$ DM (AFB1+ZEA), or $50{\mu}g\;AFB1/kg$ $DM+100{\mu}g\;OTA/kg$ $DM+500{\mu}g\;ZEA/kg$ DM (AFB1+OTA+ZEA). Results: Dry matter intake and milk production were lower in goats fed AFB1+OTA+ZEA than in controls. Supplementation with AFB1, OTA, and ZEA significantly decreased red blood cell count, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, and mean platelet volume, and significantly increased white blood cell count, when compared with the control group. Compared with control, the combination of AFB1, OTA, and ZEA significantly increased alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities, total bilirubin (TBIL), interleukin-6, and malondialdehyde (MDA), but significantly reduced immunoglobulin A concentration, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxides (GSH-Px), and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) in serum. Administration of AFB1 combined with OTA led to higher ALP, ALT, TBIL, and MDA, as well as lower milk production, SOD and GSH-Px activities, and T-AOC, than administration of AFB1 combined with ZEA. Conclusion: The mixture of AFB1, OTA, and ZEA exerted the greatest adverse effects on dairy goats, meanwhile the deleterious damage of the other mycotoxin combinations were in varying degrees. The findings of this study could provide guidance for the prevention and treatment of the consequences of contamination of animal feeds with combinations of mycotoxin.

Pre-harvest 1-Methylcyclopropene Application Affects Post-harvest Physiology and Storage Life of the Cut Rose cv. Carola

        Shuai Huang,Huiling Ma,Bi Gong,Fujuan Wei 한국원예학회 2017 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.58 No.2

We evaluated and optimized the effects of an alternative pre-harvest application of the non-toxic ethyleneaction inhibitor 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP)on the physiology and storage life of the cut rose (Rosa hybrida) cv. Carola. Cut rose was treated with a single pre-harvest liquid formula spray of 10 μL·L-11-MCP or a single treatmentof a modified atmosphere packaging of 50-μm thick polyethylene film (PE50), or a combination of the two (1-MCP+PE50),and the effects on vase life, storage life, and cold storage senescence related physiological changes were evaluated. Cut rose subjected to the pre-harvest 1-MCP spray treatment had the longest storage life (26 days), while those subjectedto PE50, 1-MCP+PE50, and the untreated control treatment had mean storage lives of 22, 19, and 16 days, respectively. Additionally, the pre-harvest 1-MCP spray treatment significantly extended the vase life of cold-stored flowers forzero or six days, by 27.08% and 42.55%, respectively. The pre-harvest spray treatment significantly suppressed respirationintensity, ethylene production, soluble protein degradation, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) production, and ACC oxidase activity. The 1-MCP+PE50 treatment compromised all the effects of the 1-MCP treatment exceptthe effect on soluble protein content. We conclude that a pre-harvest 1-MCP spray treatment has positive effects onthe vase life and storage longevity of cut rose, and that combining this treatment with a PE50 package diminishesthese effects.

Effects of dietary energy levels on growth performance in lactating sows and piglets

Shuai Qi Huang,김인호 충남대학교 농업과학연구소 2018 Korean Journal of Agricultural Science Vol.45 No.4

Twenty-five sows and 265 piglets (Landrace × Yorkshire) were used to evaluate the effects of dietary energy level on the pre-weaning and post-weaning performance of piglets and first parity sows. Sows with an average initial B.W. of 217.54 ± 25.47 kg were randomly assigned to 2 treatments. The treatments consisted of a T1 diet containing 3,100 kcal, and the T2 diet contained 3400 kcal of metabolizable energy (ME)/kg, respectively. Data were analyzed using Duncan statements to test the effect of the dietary energy levels on growth performance in lactating sows and piglets. In this study, Dietary T2 sows had a greater number of weaned piglets per litter (p < 0.05). Dietary T2 had a higher (p < 0.05) body weight than that of T1 in the weanlings, meanwhile it had a higher total average daily gain (p < 0.05) than that of T1. Dietary T1 had a higher average feed intake than that of T2 in gestation and lactation. There were no significant differences on the litter size or litter birth weight. No differences (p > 0.05) were noted in the survival of the piglets as well as in the backfat thickness and body weight loss in sows. In conclusion, these results show that high-energy diets had no effect on the body weight and backfat thickness of sows during gestation and lactation but influenced the body weight and average daily gain of weanling pigs during the lactation period.

The Impact of Housing Price on the Performance of Listed Steel Companies Evidence in China

        Shuai Huang,Seung-Woo Shin,Run-Dong Wang 강원대학교 경영경제연구소 2020 Asia-Pacific Journal of Business Vol.11 No.2

Purpose - This study explores the impact of the real estate industry on related industries for the perspective of Chinese steel companies. Design/methodology/approach - The impact of housing prices on the 41 listed steel companies performance was analyzed by using the panel data model. We used two kinds of housing price indexes that are set in the panel data models to estimate the range of the real estate market, driving the performance growth of steel listed companies. Moreover, the net profit of steel companies is used as the dependent variable. To test the stability of the model, ROA used as a dependent variable for the robustness test. Also, to avoid the time trend of housing prices, this paper selects the growth rate of housing prices as the primary research variable. After Fisher-type testings, there is no unit root problem in both independent and dependent variables. Findings - The results indicated that the rise in the housing price has a positive influence on the steel company performance. When the housing price increases by 1%, the net profit of steel enterprises will increase by 5 to 20 million yuan. Research implications or Originality - In this paper, empirical data at the micro-level and panel model are used to quantify China s real estate industry s driving effect on the iron and steel industry, providing evidence from the microdata level. It helps us to understand further the status and role of China s real estate industry in the economic structure.

Fabrication Tolerance of InGaAsP/InP-Air-Aperture Micropillar Cavities as 1.55-μm Quantum Dot Single-Photon Sources

        Shuai Huang,Xiumin Xie,Qiang Xu,Xinhua Zhao,Guangwei Deng,Qiang Zhou,You Wang,Hai-Zhi Song 한국광학회 2020 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.4 No.6

A practical single photon source for fiber-based quantum information processing is still lacking. As a possible 1.55-µm quantum-dot single photon source, an InGaAsP/InP-air-aperture micropillar cavity is investigated in terms of fabrication tolerance. By properly modeling the processing uncertainty in layer thickness, layer diameter, surface roughness and the cavity shape distortion, the fabrication imperfection effects on the cavity quality are simulated using a finite-difference time-domain method. It turns out that, the cavity quality is not significantly changing with the processing precision, indicating the robustness against the imperfection of the fabrication processing. Under thickness error of ±2 nm, diameter uncertainty of ±2%, surface roughness of ±2.5 nm, and sidewall inclination of 0.5°, which are all readily available in current material and device fabrication techniques, the cavity quality remains good enough to form highly efficient and coherent 1.55-µm single photon sources. It is thus implied that a quantum dot contained InGaAsP/InP-air-aperture micropillar cavity is prospectively a practical candidate for single photon sources applied in a fiber-based quantum information network.

De novo design of a novel AIE fluorescent probe tailored to autophagy visualization via pH manipulation

        Huang Xueyan,Chen Fei,Ma Yeshuo,Zheng Fan,Fang Yanpeng,Feng Bin,Huang Shuai,Zeng Hongliang,Zeng Wenbin 한국생체재료학회 2023 생체재료학회지 Vol.27 No.00

Macroautophagy is an essential cellular self-protection mechanism, and defective autophagy has been considered to contribute to a variety of diseases. During the process, cytoplasmic components are transported via autophagosomes to acidic lysosomes for metabolism and recycling, which represents application niches for lysosome-targeted fluorescent probes. Additionally, in view of the complexity of the autophagy pathway, it entails more stringent requirements for probes suitable for monitoring autophagy. Meanwhile, aggregation-induced emission (AIE) fluorescent probes have been impressively demonstrated in the biomedical field, which bring fascinating possibilities to the autophagy visualization. We reported a generalizable de novo design of a novel pH-sensitive AIE probe ASMP-AP tailored to lysosome targeting for the interpretation of autophagy. Firstly, the theoretical calculation was carried out followed by the investigation of optical properties. Then, the performance of ASMP-AP in visualizing autophagy was corroborated by starvation or drugs treatments. Furthermore, the capability of ASMP-AP to monitor autophagy was demonstrated in ex vivo liver tissue and zebrafish in vivo.ASMP-AP displays a large stokes shift, great cell permeability and good biocompatibility. More importantly, ASMP-AP enables a good linear response to pH, which derives from the fact that its aggregation state can be manipulated by the acidity. It was successfully applied for imaging autophagy in living cells and was proved capable of monitoring mitophagy. Moreover, this novel molecular tool was validated by ex vivo visualization of activated autophagy in drug-induced liver injury model. Interestingly, it provided a meaningful pharmacological insight that the melanin inhibitor 1-phenyl-2-thiourea (PTU)-induced autophagy was clearly presented in wild-type zebrafish.ASMP-AP offers a simple yet effective tool for studying lysosome and autophagy. This is the first instance to visualize autophagy in zebrafish using a small-molecule probe with AIE characters, accurate lysosome targeting and simultaneous pH sensitivity. Ultimately, this novel fluorescent system has great potential for in vivo translation to fuel autophagy research.

Vol.18 No.1

This paper shows the application of P-N Learning [4] method in the soccer ball detection and improvement for increasing the speed of processing. In the P-N learning, the learning process is guided by positive (P) and negative (N) constraints which restrict the labeling of the unlabeled data, identify examples that have been classified in contradiction with structural constraints and augment the training set with the corrected samples in an iterative process. But for the long-view in the soccer game, P-N learning will produce so many ferns that more time is spent than other methods. We propose that color histogram of each frame is constructed to delete the unnecessary details in order to decreasing the number of feature points. We use the mask to eliminate the gallery region and Line Hough Transform to remove the line and adjust the P-N learning’s parameters to optimize accurate and speed.

      • Remote Sensing Image Fusion Based On IHS and Dual Tree Compactly Supported Shearlet Transform

        Chang Duan,Qihong Huang,Xuegang Wang,Shuai Wang,Hong Wang 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.7 No.5

This paper presents a novel remote sensing image fusion algorithm, which implements the intensity-hue-saturation (IHS) transform on panchromatic sharpening of multispectral data and the dual-tree compactly supported shearlet transform (DT CSST) during fusion. Shearlet transforms can provide almost optimal representation of the anisotropic features of an image. The spatial domain discrete implementation, the compactly supported shearlet transform (CSST), which represents the directions by dilation operations, are selected in the proposed fusion method. Since most of the prominent features of images, such as edges and regions, have limited sizes in the spatial domain, CSST is very suitable for image fusion. However, the conventional CSST is shift-variant, which causes distortions in fused images. With the embedded dual-tree (DT) sturcture in the CSST, the shift-variant properties can be effectively reduced. Combining the IHS transform and the DT CSST, an effective panchromatic and multispectral image fusion method is proposed in this paper. The experiments’ results suggest that the proposed method extract more spatial information from panchromatic images with less lost in spectral consistency compared to other fusion methods which are based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT), à trous wavelet transform, à trous shearlet transform, the dual-tree complex wave transform ( DT CWT), or the Curvelet transform.

Catalytic activity of Cu/MgO in liquid phase oxidation of cumene

        Shuai Xu,Jie Zhang,Biaohua Chen,Chongpin Huang 한국화학공학회 2009 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.26 No.6

Cumene was oxidized with air as the oxidant and Cu/MgO as the catalyst. Cu/MgO with different compositions was prepared by co-precipitation and then characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), H2-temperature programmed reduction (H2-TPR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The characterization results showed that CuO dispersed on MgO well in the cases that the Cu content in Cu/MgO was 1% by molar. In this catalytic system, MgO did not only act as the supporter, but also as the catalyst to activate the tertiary C-H of cumene. The conversion of cumene was increased by using CuO as the promoter on MgO catalyst. The cumene conversion and cumene hydroperoxide (CHP) selectivity were in a trade-off relationship because cumene oxidation was subject to the decomposition of CHP. Thus, the effects of the operating variables were investigated and the relevant mechanism was discussed.
