Effect of Bi(Zn1/2Nb2/5)O3 addition on phase transition and energy storage properties of BaTiO3 ceramics

        Ma Cuiying,Zhang Ruiying,Zhang Guangwei,Du Huiling,Liu Jia,Liang Ruinan,Wang Zhaoguo 한국물리학회 2023 Current Applied Physics Vol.55 No.-

Bi(Zn1/2Nb2/5)O3-modified BaTiO3 ceramics were designed with formula (1‒x)BaTiO3‒xBi(Zn1/2Nb2/5)O3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.15) and fabricated using conventional solid-state route. With increasing Bi(Zn1/2Nb2/5)O3 concentration, grain volume increased and phase structure was transformed from tetragonal to pseudo-cubic. Dielectric properties changed from temperature-dependent to temperature-insensitive and curves were flattened. Additionally, higher pseudo-cubic phase content induced slim P-E loop and low Pr. Therefore, 0.94BaTiO3‒0.06Bi(Zn1/2Nb2/5)O3 ceramic achieved energy storage density of 1.85 J/cm3 and high energy efficiency of 91.2% under electric field of 230 kV/cm. This energy storage density was 5 times higher than that of pure BT ceramic. Meanwhile, energy storage properties of this ceramic exhibited excellent thermal stability in the range of 30–120 °C and good frequency stability over 10–100 Hz. This work provides promising alternative option in energy storage materials.

Cell-autonomous reduction of CYFIP2 is insufficient to induce Alzheimer’s disease-like pathologies in the hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons of aged mice

        Ruiying Ma,Yinhua Zhang,Huiling Li,강혜림,김윤희,한기훈 한국통합생물학회 2023 Animal cells and systems Vol.27 No.1

Cytoplasmic FMR1-interacting protein 2 (CYFIP2) is an evolutionarily conserved multifunctionalprotein that regulates the neuronal actin cytoskeleton, mRNA translation and transport, andmitochondrial morphology and function. Supporting its critical roles in proper neuronaldevelopment and function, human genetic studies have repeatedly identified variants of theCYFIP2 gene in individuals diagnosed with neurodevelopmental disorders. Notably, a fewrecent studies have also suggested a mechanistic link between reduced CYFIP2 level andAlzheimer’s disease (AD). Specifically, in the hippocampus of 12-month-old Cyfip2heterozygous mice, several AD-like pathologies were identified, including increased levels ofTau phosphorylation and gliosis, and loss of dendritic spines in CA1 pyramidal neurons. However, detailed pathogenic mechanisms, such as cell types and their circuits where thepathologies originate, remain unknown for AD-like pathologies caused by CYFIP2 reduction. In this study, we aimed to address this issue by examining whether the cell-autonomousreduction of CYFIP2 in CA1 excitatory pyramidal neurons is sufficient to induce AD-likephenotypes in the hippocampus. We performed immunohistochemical, morphological, andbiochemical analyses in 12-month-old Cyfip2 conditional knock-out mice, which havepostnatally reduced CYFIP2 expression level in CA1, but not in CA3, excitatory pyramidalneurons of the hippocampus. Unexpectedly, we could not find any significant AD-likephenotype, suggesting that the CA1 excitatory neuron-specific reduction of CYFIP2 level isinsufficient to lead to AD-like pathologies in the hippocampus. Therefore, we propose thatCYFIP2 reduction in other neurons and/or their synaptic connections with CA1 pyramidalneurons may be critically involved in the hippocampal AD-like phenotypes of Cyfip2heterozygous mice.

Pre-harvest 1-Methylcyclopropene Application Affects Post-harvest Physiology and Storage Life of the Cut Rose cv. Carola

        Shuai Huang,Huiling Ma,Bi Gong,Fujuan Wei 한국원예학회 2017 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.58 No.2

We evaluated and optimized the effects of an alternative pre-harvest application of the non-toxic ethyleneaction inhibitor 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP)on the physiology and storage life of the cut rose (Rosa hybrida) cv. Carola. Cut rose was treated with a single pre-harvest liquid formula spray of 10 μL·L-11-MCP or a single treatmentof a modified atmosphere packaging of 50-μm thick polyethylene film (PE50), or a combination of the two (1-MCP+PE50),and the effects on vase life, storage life, and cold storage senescence related physiological changes were evaluated. Cut rose subjected to the pre-harvest 1-MCP spray treatment had the longest storage life (26 days), while those subjectedto PE50, 1-MCP+PE50, and the untreated control treatment had mean storage lives of 22, 19, and 16 days, respectively. Additionally, the pre-harvest 1-MCP spray treatment significantly extended the vase life of cold-stored flowers forzero or six days, by 27.08% and 42.55%, respectively. The pre-harvest spray treatment significantly suppressed respirationintensity, ethylene production, soluble protein degradation, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) production, and ACC oxidase activity. The 1-MCP+PE50 treatment compromised all the effects of the 1-MCP treatment exceptthe effect on soluble protein content. We conclude that a pre-harvest 1-MCP spray treatment has positive effects onthe vase life and storage longevity of cut rose, and that combining this treatment with a PE50 package diminishesthese effects.

        Jianfeng Gou,Qiuling Ma,Yuqi Cui,Xiaoyong Deng,Huixuan Zhang,Xiuwen Cheng,Xiaoli Li,Mingzheng Xie,Qingfeng Cheng,Huiling Liu 한국공업화학회 2017 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.49 No.-

In this study, high visible light response and charge separation efficiency of body-centered cubic Ag3PO4sub-microcrystals were fabricated through ultrasound-precipitation process. Additionally, the parameterswere optimized by photocatalytic (PC) removal degradation of diclofenac based on response surfacemethodology. Results indicated that the PC removal efficiency of diclofenac was significantly affected byAg3PO4 content and pH value. Under the optimized conditions, 99.9% of diclofenac could be degradedwithin 16 min Xenon illumination. Furthermore, three PC removal degradation pathways of diclofenacwere proposed, including OH-adduct to aromatic ring, direct oxidation by photoinduced holes anddecarboxylation of side chain from the parent compound.

Differential responses of walnut cultivars to cold storage and their correlation with postharvest physiological parameters

        Xue Yuan,Shuai Huang,Huiling Ma,Ning Huang,Niu Ye 한국원예학회 2019 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.60 No.3

In this study, we screened eight walnut ( Juglans regia L.) cultivars (‘Xifu2’, ‘Shaanhe’, ‘Weina’, ‘Xiangling’, ‘Xiluo3’,‘Xifu1’, ‘Liaoning4’, and ‘Qingxiang’) in order to establish reliable selection criteria for storage-tolerance. Fresh walnutfruit were stored at 0 ± 0.5 °C and 70–80% relative humidity. Browning index, postharvest physio-biochemical characteristics, acid value, and sensory quality were measured. The results showed that ‘Xifu2’, ‘Shaanhe’, and ‘Weina’ developedbrowning early and quickly and storage was terminated for these cultivars at 60 days. ‘Xiluo3’, ‘Xifu1’, ‘Liaoning4’, and‘Qingxiang’ had a slow browning rate and storage was terminated at 72 days. ‘Xiangling’ developed browning at a mediumrate and storage was terminated at 72 days. Correlation analysis suggested that the terminal browning index of each cultivarpositively correlated with lipoxygenase activity at 18 days of storage, polyphenol oxidase activity at 18–30 days, malondialdehydecontent at 18 days, and the respiration rate at 42 days, while it negatively correlated with the total phenolic contentat 18 days and phenylalanine ammonia lyase activity at 12 days. The storage tolerance of each cultivar was evaluatedaccording to the terminal browning index, acid value, and sensory quality. Comprehensive evaluation and cluster analysiswere performed to rank the cold storage tolerance of the eight cultivars as follows: ‘Qingxiang’ and ‘Xifu1’ > ‘Liaoning4’and ‘Xiluo3’ > ‘Xifu2’ and ‘Xiangling’ > ‘Shaanhe’ and ‘Weina’. In conclusion, cultivars used for fresh in-husk walnut fruitwith lower levels of membrane peroxidation and phenol oxidation, and higher level of phenol synthesis around 18 days ofstorage would be suitable candidates for cold storage. ‘Qingxiang’ and ‘Xifu1’ were selected as storage-tolerant cultivars.

Effects of controlled atmosphere on browning, redox metabolism and kernel quality of fresh in-hull walnut (Juglans regia L.)

        Niu Ye,Pingping Zhang,Yifan Wang,Huiling Ma,Ting Zhang 한국원예학회 2021 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.62 No.3

The green hull of fresh walnuts ( Juglans regia L.) is highly susceptible to browning and accompanied with deterioration ofthe walnut quality, and the currently available preservation technologies still do not meet the market threshold supply of freshwalnut. This study investigated the eff ect of controlled atmosphere (CA) storage alone and combination with 1-Methylcyclopropene(1-MCP) on hull browning and kernel quality of fresh in-hull walnut. Fresh in-hull walnuts were treated with air(Control), CA (5% O 2 , 7.5% CO 2 ), 1-MCP (0.5 μL L −1 ) + CA and stored at 0 ± 0.5 °C for 100 d. Browning incidence, hullredox metabolism, kernel color and walnut oil quality were analyzed. The results showed that CA promoted the activities ofsuperoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX), maintained total phenol (TP), γ-aminobutyricacid (GABA), ascorbic acid (ASA), and glutathione (GSH) contents, inhibited ethylene production, reduced reactive oxygenspecies (ROS) accumulation, and delayed the hull browning. Besides, CA attained the highest kernel quality throughinhibited the decrease of kernel color value and moisture content, and reduced acid value (AV) and peroxide value (POV)of walnut oil. While 1-MCP + CA treatment increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes, the combination weakened theother positive eff ects of CA. However, hull browning and kernel deterioration in 1-MCP + CA were less than that observedin air control. Overall, CA was an eff ective method for the preservation of fresh in-hull walnut at 0 ± 0.5 °C.

Pre-harvest ethylene control affects vase life of cut rose ‘Carola’ by regulating energy metabolism and antioxidant enzyme activity

        Bi Gong,Shuai Huang,Niu Ye,Xue Yuan,Huiling Ma 한국원예학회 2018 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.59 No.6

We studied the role of ethylene control in regulating energy metabolism, antioxidant enzyme activity, and vase life of cutrose Rosa hybrida ‘Carola’. Rose fl owers at stage II were sprayed with one of the following solutions: water (control), 10μL L −1 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), or 0.5 g L −1 2-chloroethanephosphonic acid (ethephon). After harvest, ethyleneproduction rate, respiration intensity, energy charge (EC), activities of energy metabolism-related and antioxidant enzymes, and malondialdehyde (MDA) content were measured. Results showed that 1-MCP enhanced the activities of superoxidedismutase, H + -adenosine triphosphatase, Ca 2+ -adenosine triphosphatase, succinic dehydrogenase, and cytochrome c oxidase, increased adenosine triphosphate (ATP) content, maintained high EC levels, inhibited respiration intensity, reduced peroxidase(POD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activity and MDA accumulation, and prolonged vase life. Ethephon promotedethylene production and respiration intensity, increased POD and PPO activity, reduced ATP content and EC levels, andaccelerated senescence. Our results support a novel role for ethylene control in regulating senescence of ‘Carola’.

Shelf Life Prediction of ‘Royal Gala’ Apples Based on Quality Attributes and Storage Temperature

        Mengke Cao,Dong Wang,Lingyu Qiu,Xiaolin Ren,Huiling Ma 한국원예학회 2021 원예과학기술지 Vol.39 No.3

Phenotypic changes caused by postharvest deterioration of the quality attributes of apples cause substantial economic losses. Thus, strategies for accurate prediction of the shelf life of apples is urgently needed. In each of the three consecutive years from 2016 to 2018, freshly harvested ‘Royal Gala’ apples were stored at 0, 5, 15, and 25°C, respectively. Subsequently, 11 quality attributes were measured at periodic intervals until the end of storage. To screen fewer and more useful indexes, three input datasets were considered: temperature, color value (L*, a*, b*, △E, and C*), weight loss, firmness, titratable acidity, soluble solids content, starch, and reducing ascorbic acid (D1). The key quality attributes were screened by sparse principal component analysis (SPCA) (D2) and correlation analysis (CA) (D3), using shelf life as the output layer of the artificial neural network based on the back propagation (BP ANN) model. The results showed that the correlation coefficients (r) of the predicted and measured shelf life for D1, D2, and D3 were 0.996, 0.997, and 0.993, respectively, while the mean relative errors were 0.071, 0.074, and 0.074, respectively. Meanwhile, the relative percent root mean square (RMS) values were 0.088, 0.092, and 0.112, respectively. The application of SPCA reduced the quality attributes for the input dataset from 12 to 6. Therefore, SPCA-BP ANN was shown to be a useful model for accurate prediction of the postharvest shelf life of ‘Royal Gala’ apples.
