        Transcriptional profiling analysis of OsDT11-mediated ABA-dependent signal pathway for drought tolerance in rice

        Small cysteine-rich peptides (CRPs) are important in plant responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. OsDT11, encoding an 88 amino acid CRP-type protein, has been reported to enhance tolerance to drought in rice (Oryza sativa L.) without negatively afecting other agronomic traits. However, the molecular mechanisms of OsDT11-mediated drought tolerance are still unclear. Here, we performed RNA-Seq analysis to compare the transcriptome profles between wild-type (WT) and OsDT11-overexpressing (OE) rice lines under drought stress or under control (non-drought) conditions. A total of 1570 and 1421 diferentially expressed genes were identifed in the OE lines and the WT under drought treatment, respectively, compared to non-drought conditions. Gene ontology analysis indicated that the 430 up-regulated genes in common to both OE and the WT lines were induced for functions related to responses to water deprivation and to abscisic acid (ABA). More than half of these genes had higher expression in the OE than in the WT under drought stress. In the OE, but not in the WT, 294 genes were specifcally up-regulated under drought stress and were functionally enriched in starch and sucrose biosyn�thetic processes and in response to stress. This implies that OsDT11 not only triggers strongly response to drought stress, but also alters several metabolic processes to enhance drought tolerance. Gene expression profling suggests that OsDT11 confers drought tolerance by mediating an enhanced response to drought stress in an ABA-dependent signaling pathways.

        Comparison and Analysis of Main Effects, Epistatic Effects, and QTL ${\times}$ Environment Interactions of QTLs for Agronomic Traits Using DH and RILs Populations in Rice

        Two genetic linkage maps based on doubled haploid (DH) and recombinant inbred lines (RILs) populations, derived from the same indica-japonica cross 'Samgang x Nagdong', were constructed to analyze the quantitative trait loci (QTLs) affecting agronomic traits in rice. The segregations of agronomic traits in RILs population showed larger variations than those in DH population. A total of 10 and 12 QTLs were identified on six chromosomes using DH population and seven chromosomes using RILs population, respectively. Three stable QTLs including pl9.1, ph1.1, and gwp11.1 were detected through different years. The percentages of phenotypic variation explained by individual QTLs ranged from 8 to 18% in the DH population and 9 to 33% in the RILs population. Twenty-three epistatic QTLs were identified in the DH population, while 21 epistatic QTLs were detected in the RILs population. Epistatic interactions played an important role in controlling the agronomic traits genetically. Four significant main-effect QTLs were involved in the digenic interactions. Significant interactions between QTLs and environments (QE) were identified in two populations. The QTLs affecting grain weight per panicle (GWP) were more sensitive to the environmental changes. The comparison and QTLs analysis between two populations across different years should help rice breeders to comprehend the genetic mechanisms of quantitative traits and improve breeding programs in marker-assisted selection (MAS).

      • QTL mapping for developmental behavior at different stages in rice

        A population of 120 double-haploid lines derived from Samgang/Nagdong was used for analyzing the developmental behaviors of plant height and tiller number by conditional mapping via composite interval approaches at five growth stages of rice. The traits were normally distributed with transgressive segregations in both directions. A total of 4 QTLs associated with plant height were identified in 40th/initial, 50th/40th and 60th/50th periods, respectively. The qph7.1 was observed in 50th/40th and 60th/50th periods, with increasing effects from Samgang and Nagdong alleles, respectively. This indicated that an individual gene or genes at the same genomic region might have opposite genetic effects at various growth stages. Five QTLs associated with tiller number were identified in four stages except 60th/50th stage. Four of five increasing effects of QTLs were from Nagdong alleles. Six of nine QTLs for two traits were detected before 60 days. It was evident that the expression of QTLs for plant height and tiller number was more active at early stages than at maturity stage. Furthermore, QTLs identified at early stages showed opposite additive effects on plant height and tiller number. These results provided a possible genetic explanation for the negative correlation between two traits.

        Improved Memory Characteristics by NH<sub>3</sub> Post Annealing for ZrO<sub>2</sub> Based Charge Trapping Nonvolatile Memory

        Charge trapping nonvolatile memory capacitors with $ZrO_2$ as charge trapping layer were fabricated, and the effects of post annealing atmosphere ($NH_3$ and $N_2$) on their memory storage characteristics were investigated. It was found that the memory windows were improved, after annealing treatment. The memory capacitor after $NH_3$ annealing treatment exhibited the best electrical characteristics, with a 6.8 V memory window, a lower charge loss ~22.3% up to ten years, even at $150^{\circ}C$, and excellent endurance (1.5% memory window degradation). The results are attributed to deep level bulk charge traps, induced by using $NH_3$ annealing.

        Identification for quantitative trait loci controlling grain shattering in rice

        Seed shattering is an important factor causing loss of grain yield before and during rice harvest. In the present study, the quantitative trait loci regarding shattering scale, breaking tensile strength (BTS) and abscission layer (AL), the parameters evaluating seed shattering habit by hand gripping, a digital force gauge and observation on AL, respectively, were identified by using an doubled haploid line (DHL) population from a cross between a loose-shattering type Tongil variety,‘Samgang’, and a moderately difficult shattering japonica variety,‘Nagdong’. Eight QTLs consisted in four QTLs for shattering scale, two QTLs for AL, each one QTL for pulling and bending strength were detected on six chromosomes,respectively. Among them, Qss1 with flanking markers RM6696 and RM476 explained 31% of phenotype variation in shattering scale. Furthermore, two new QTLs controlling shattering habit, Qss5-2 and Qal5-1, were located on chromosome 5 at the interval 5028−5037 and 5021-RM289. They explained 10% and 12% of phenotype variations, respectively. A total of eleven digenic epistatic loci were identified for four parameters. The identification of QTLs affecting seed shatter-ing habits is favorable to thoroughly dissect the genetic mechanism of the shattering habit and to apply for marker-assisted selection in rice breeding system of specific regions.

        Preparation of Manganese Dioxide Supercapacitors by Secondary Construction of Three-Dimensional Substrates and Ion Embedding

        This work used a simple electrochemical reduction method to secondary construct the reduced nickel base (rNi Base) on nickel foam with a nano-core structure. The secondarily constructed base has a large specific surface area, which can increase the mass utilization of the active material. The rNi Base was used as a base for the reduction of nickel on Na+, K+, and NH+4, respectively. MnO2 was electrodeposited under three different cation pre-intercalation treatments, and the mechanism of the effect of different monovalent cations to guide the growth of MnO2 materials was investigated. Finally, rNi/MnO2&Na+ electrode with a special nano cauliflower structure was obtained. The special nanostructure of the electrode enhances its electrochemical performance, possessing 598 F g− 1 ultra-high specific capacitance at a current density of 1 A g− 1 and a high specific capacitance of 307.5 F g− 1 at a high current density of 20 A g− 1, and high specific capacitance maintenance rate of 92.7% after 500 cycles of charging and discharging at a current density of 2 A g− 1. In addition, the symmetrical supercapacitor assembled with this electrode has a very high specific capacitance (401.1 F g− 1 at a current density of 1 A g− 1) and energy density (80.22Wh kg− 1 at a power density of 599.99 W kg− 1).

      • Research on Tagging Recommendation Algorithm Based on Relevance and Diversity

        The traditional recommendation algorithms of image tagging ignore the diversity between the visual content information and the tags recommended, which causes the recommended results have the problem of tag ambiguity, tag redundancy and so on. Therefore, this paper proposes the recommendation algorithm of image tagging based on relevance and diversity. The algorithm defines the relevance and diversity of a label set, and selects a label set which can reasonably balance the relevance and diversity to recommend to the user. The experimental results show that this algorithm improves the relevance between the recommended results and the image, and makes the recommended results be able to reflect the image content thoroughly at the same time.
