Wind induced vibrations of long electrical overhead transmission line spans: a modified approach

Verma, Himanshu,Hagedorn, Peter Techno-Press 2005 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.8 No.2

For estimating the vortex excited vibrations of overhead transmission lines, the Energy Balance Principle (EBP) is well established for spans damped near the ends. Although it involves radical simplifications, the method is known to give useful estimates of the maximum vibration levels. For very long spans, there often is the need for a large number of in-span fittings, such as in-span Stockbridge dampers, aircraft warning spheres etc. This adds complexity to the problem and makes the energy balance principle in its original form unsuitable. In this paper, a modified version of EBP is described taking into account in-span damping and in particular also aircraft warning spheres. In the first step the complex transcendental eigenvalue problem is solved for the conductor with in-span fittings. With the thus determined complex eigenvalues and eigenfunctions a modified energy balance principle is then used for scaling the amplitudes of vibrations at each resonance frequency. Bending strains are then estimated at the critical points of the conductor. The approach has been used by the authors for studying the influence of in-span Stockbridge dampers and aircraft warning spheres; and for optimizing their positions in the span. The modeling of the aircraft warning sphere is also described in some detail.

Selection of features and hidden Markov model parameters for English word recognition from Leap Motion air-writing trajectories

        Deval Verma,Himanshu Agarwal,Amrish Kumar Aggarwal 한국전자통신연구원 2024 ETRI Journal Vol.46 No.2

Air-writing recognition is relevant in areas such as natural human-computer interaction, augmented reality, and virtual reality. A trajectory is the most natural way to represent air writing. We analyze the recognition accuracy of words written in air considering five features, namely, writing direction, cur-vature, trajectory, orthocenter, and ellipsoid, as well as different parameters of a hidden Markov model classifier. Experiments were performed on two representative datasets, whose sample trajectories were collected using a Leap Motion Controller from a fingertip performing air writing. Dataset D1 contains 840 English words from 21 classes, and dataset D2 contains 1600 English words from 40 classes. A genetic algorithm was combined with a hid-den Markov model classifier to obtain the best subset of features. Combination {trajectory, orthocenter, writing direction, curvature} provided the best feature set, achieving recognition accuracies on datasets D1 and D2 of 98.81% and 83.58%, respectively.

      • Network Security in Embedded System Using TLS

        Vivek Negi,Himanshu Verma,Ipsita Singh,Aditya Vikram,Kanika Malik,Archana Singh,Gaurav Verma 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.10 No.2

Security in terms of Networks have turn out to be more significant to Organizations, Military and personal computer user’s. Since various kinds of threats are for data from sending it from sender side over internet till it reaches to receiver. Here we will focus on SSL it is a technique used to give client and server authentication, data confidentiality and data integrity. It transform our data into unintelligible form, data which we will be sending can be text or no text form, by encrypting our data we can save it from attacks like eavesdropping, in which interception of communication by unauthorized person, he can either listen or can add malicious information in our data which can lead to catastrophic results. This technique of secure data transmission is very useful in securing the integrity of data sent by the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in military application to commercially used Electricity meter. Since the above mentioned devices uses microcontroller to send data through internet hence this data is always going to be susceptible to above mentioned threats so it is important to ensure that it doesn’t fall in wrong hands, our objective is that our microcontroller sends the data to remote location has authenticity, confidentiality and integrity. First we will send some meaningful text already stored in controller of STM3240G Eval-board then that data will be sent to server. These encrypted packets will be sending to remote server through Ethernet. At the receiver end this data will be received and decrypted to get the original captured data.

      • Translation and validation of communicative quality of life in the dysarthric speaker questionnaire in telugu

Philemon Benison Dasari,Himanshu Verma,G.V.M Hariprasad 한국언어재활사협회 2021 Clinical Archives of Communication Disorders Vol.6 No.3

Purpose: Several tools are available to assess the quality of life for speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders in Indian languages. However, limited tools are present to assess the quality of life of dysarthria. So, the present study aims to translate and validate the Quality of Life in the Dysarthric Speaker (QoL-DyS) questionnaire into the Telugu language. Methods: A total of 30 different types of dysarthria and 30 age-matched controls participated in the present study. The QoL-DyS tool was trans-adapted in the Telugu language using a standardized procedure and administered to the participants. The internal consistency, test-retest reliability, construct validity, scale statistics, and item statistics were computed. Results: The present study revealed that the developed tool has good (i.e., 0.81) overall internal consistency and excellent (i.e., 0.92) test-retest reliability. The significant difference (i.e., p<0.05) was found between the experimental and control group. Conclusions: From the present study, we can conclude that the Telugu QOL-DyS is a reliable tool. It is applicable in clinical practice for the self-assessment of the quality of life in dysarthric speakers. Hence, the Telugu QOL-DyS is recommended in clinical practice, and there is a need to develop QoL-DyS in other Indian languages.

        Shivani Madhok,Gaurav Verma,Ankur Bhardwa j,Himanshu Verma,Ipsita Singh,Sushant Shekhar 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Bio-Science and Bio-Techn Vol.7 No.4

In this paper, we have designed an energy efficient wrist watch on 28nm FPGA. The code has been implemented in Xilinx ISE Design Suite 14.2. The device used is XC7K160T, package used is FBG676 and it is working on -3 speed grade. The wrist band will take the blood pressure as input and will tell about the state of the person wearing it. The design supports Internet of things service that’s why IP addresses are involved. This wrist band design is very helpful in biomedical areas. Research is in progress in this field. In this paper frequency is varied to obtain power consumption of Wrist Watch. Airflow has been kept 250 LFM and medium Heat sink. IO Standards has been varied in order to achieve an energy efficient device. Main emphasis has been done on MOBILE_DDR, LVTTL, HSUL_12, HSTL_I, LVCMOS33 and SSTL15 IO Standards. To design an energy efficient device we are using capacitance scaling and the capacitance is scaled down from 100pF to 20pF. During capacitance scaling, we observe that there is no change in clock power, logic power and signal power. Thermal Aware design is current research area. Analysis has been at two temperatures that is at 25 degree Celsius and at 50 degree Celsius. At the end we can conclude that the maximum power is consumed at 2.2GHz and minimum power is consumed at 1.2GHz. In respect of capacitance maximum power is consumed at 100pF and minimum power is consumed at 20pF at both temperatures at 25 degree Celsius and 50 degree Celsius.

Facile Synthesis of Bio-Composite Films Obtained from Sugarcane Bagasse and Cardboard Waste

        Sanjeev Makin,Satish Kumar Singh,Sweety Verma,Himanshu Gupta,Avneesh Kumar Gehlaut,Suantak Kamsonlian,Surya Narain Lal,Ankur Gaur 한국화학공학회 2023 Korean Chemical Engineering Research(HWAHAK KONGHA Vol.61 No.4

In this study, we focus on the recycling of cardboard waste and sugarcane bagasse (SCB) for the preparation of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and its conversion into a biodegradable film. Sodium alginate (SA) was added to form a biodegradable composite film. SA was used to increase film permeability. Glycerol, which is a plasticizer, was used to increase the tensile strength (TS) and film expansion. To characterize the CMC, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy were used. The addition of olive oil to the CMC-SA matrix highlighted its antimicrobial property against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). A slight decrease in tensile strength was observed with the addition of olive oil (OO), which improved the functional properties of the control films as well as lowered moisture content and water solubility. But considering all other factors, the composite films obtained from sugarcane bagasse and cardboard waste incorporated with olive oil are suitable for applications in the field of food packaging.
