Experimental study of solar assisted ground source heat pump system during space heating operation from morning to evening

Vikas Verma,K. Murugesan 대한기계학회 2018 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.32 No.1

Experimental investigation of solar assisted ground source heat pump system has been carried out to understand performance variation during space heating for continuous eight hours operation from morning to evening for Indian winter climatic conditions. Heat extraction rate from solar collector and ground exchanger were monitored from 9 AM to 5 PM on hourly basis by measuring the inlet and outlet temperatures of heat transfer fluids. A detailed thermodynamic energy balance carried out on hourly basis indicates maximum heat loss is observed at 12 noon at which maximum heat extraction from solar collector and ground heat exchanger was obtained. Maximum COP of the SAGSHP system is observed at 12 noon for all the three mass flow rates, however, the COP decreases up to 3 % with increase in severity of winter due to increase in heat loss. About 44 % increase in mass flow rate of heat carrying fluids has enhanced the heat extraction rate up to 18 %, resulting in about 3 % increase in room temperature. The SAGSHP system was able to maintain the room temperature at about 20 to 21 °C when the ambient temperature was at about 12 °C.

      • Sliding wear behavior of SPS processed TaC-containing Ti(CN)-WC-Ni/Co cermets against Silicon Carbide

Verma, Vikas,Kumar, B.V. Manoj Elsevier 2017 Wear: An international journal on the science and Vol.376 No.2

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Dense (>98.5%) TiCN-WC-Ni/Co cermets with or without TaC are prepared by spark plasma sintering technique at 1400°C and 70MPa pressure for 3min and their friction and wear properties are investigated against commercially available hard counterbody silicon carbide ball at 5, 10 or 20N load. Core-rim morphology is observed in SEM images of sintered samples which results due to dissolution and reprecipitation process. Vickers Hardness and fracture toughness varied from 15–17GPa and 8.79 to 9.51MPam1/2. Nano hardness of core-rim-binder phases of cermets lie between 11.14–26.01GPa. Maximum hardness and fracture toughness were obtained for Ti(CN)-5WC-10Ni-10Co-5TaC (in wt%) cermet. With change in the cermet composition and sliding load, coefficient of friction varied from 0.3 to 1.1. Wear rate of cermets varied from 4.7×10−7 mm3/Nm to 2.2×10−6 mm3/Nm and of worn SiC ball from 4.4×10−7 mm3/Nm to 1.5×10−6 mm3/Nm. Hard debris oxides are responsible for higher COF at low load of 5N and their compaction leads to the formation of tribolayer at high load of 20N. The worn surfaces of cermets are characterized by microcracking, tribolayer formation and spalling. The addition of TaC in TiCN-WC-Ni/Co cermets led to the refined carbide size having lowest contiguity of ceramic phase and attributed to reduced wear. Present research contributes in context of dry machining conditions and is conducted to explore the potential of new cermet material in severe wear conditions against hard material.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Present research is to explore the potential of new cermet material in severe sliding wear conditions against hard material. </LI> <LI> Effect of TaC as ternary carbide on mechanical and tribological behavior of SPSed processed TiCN-WC-Ni/Co cermets is studied. </LI> <LI> Present research contributes in context of dry wear conditions. </LI> <LI> The wear mechanisms are particularly elucidated in terms of cermet composition and sliding load. </LI> </UL> </P>

Loss of zinc‐finger protein 143 contributes to tumour progression by interleukin‐8‐CXCR axis in colon cancer

Verma, Vikas,Paek, A Rome,Choi, Beom-Kyu,Hong, Eun Kyung,You, Hye Jin John Wiley and Sons Inc. 2019 Journal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine Vol.23 No.6

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Several studies have shown that expression of zinc‐finger protein 143 (ZNF143) is closely related to tumour progression including colon cancer. However, it remains unclear how ZNF143 expression is related to tumour progression within the tumour microenvironment. Here, we investigated whether ZNF143 expression affects the tumour microenvironment and tumour progression by screening molecules secreted by colon cancer cells stably expressing short‐hairpin RNAs against ZNF143 or control RNAs. We observed that secretion of interleukin (IL)‐8 was increased when ZNF143 expression was reduced in two colon cancer cell lines. The mRNA and protein levels of IL‐8 were increased in cells following ZNF143 knockdown, and this effect was reversed when ZNF143 expression was restored. The Janus tyrosine kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) and extracellular signal‐regulated kinase pathways were also shown to contribute to IL‐8 expression in ZNF143‐knockdown cells. The expression levels of ZNF143 and IL‐8 were inversely correlated with three‐dimensionally grown spheroids and colon cancer tissues. THP‐1 cells were differentiated when cells were incubated with condition media from colon cancer cell with less ZNF143, drastically. Loss of ZNF143 may contribute to the development of colon cancer by regulating intracellular and intercellular signalling for cell plasticity and the tumour microenvironment respectively.</P>

Bandedge Emission in Sprayed ZnO Thin Films

        Vikas Thakur,Udai Pratap Verma,Rajaram Poolla 대한금속·재료학회 2014 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.10 No.6

ZnO thin films were grown by spraying aqueous solutions of zinc acetate on quartz and silicon substrates heated to 500°C. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies show that the ZnO films crystallize in the hexagonal phase and are highly oriented along the [002] direction. SEM micrographs show that the surface of the films is uniformly covered with worm shaped particles. EDAX results together with XRD studies confirm that the synthesized films are single phase ZnO with good stoichiometry. The sharp absorption occurring near the band edge indicates high quality growth of the material. Room temperature photoluminescence (PL) studies of the sprayed films show a strong near band edge (NBE) emission. PL spectra obtained at low temperature (20 K) exhibit better resolved peaks of the NBE emission caused by the radiative recombination of free and bound excitons. The dominant free exciton emission observed in the PL spectra confirms the high quality of the sprayed ZnO layers.

Structural, Morphological and Optical Properties of Sprayed Nanocrystalline Thin Films of Cd1-xZnxS Solid Solution

        Urvashi Verma,Vikas Thakur,Poolla Rajaram,A. K. Shrivastava 대한금속·재료학회 2015 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.11 No.1

A series of nanocrystalline thin films of cadmium zinc sulphide(Cd1-xZnxS) solid solution were deposited on glass substrates usingspray pyrolysis. Cadmium chloride (CdCl2), zinc chloride (ZnCl2) andthiourea (NH2CSNH2) were used as the sources of Cd, Zn and Srespectively. The films were characterized using structural, morphologicaland optical techniques. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies show thatthe films of Cd1-xZnxS are polycrystalline and single phase having thewurtzite structure. The crystallites in the thin films of pure CdS possesspreferred crystallographic orientation along the <002> direction. Thepreferred orientation of crystallites in the Cd1-xZnxS films changes from<002> to <101> with increase in Zn concentration. The latticeparameters of Cd1-xZnxS decrease with increase in Zn concentration. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy(AFM) studies show that the surfaces of the films are smooth and areuniformly covered with nanoparticles. Energy dispersive analysis of xrays(EDAX) results reveal that the grown films have goodstoichiometry. Optical transmission spectra confirm the good qualityof the Cd1-xZnxS films.
