        PRECONDITIONED AOR ITERATIVE METHOD FOR Z-MATRICES

        In this paper, we present a preconditioned iterative method for solving linear systems Ax = b, where A is a Z-matrix. We give some comparison theorems to show that the rate of convergence of the new preconditioned iterative method is faster than the rate of convergence of the previous preconditioned iterative method. Finally, we give one numerical example to show that our results are true.

        Improved synthesis of isomaltooligosaccharides using immobilized a-glucosidase in organic–aqueous media

        a-Glucosidase was immobilized onto an epoxyactivated resin (Eupergit C) to catalyze maltose into isomaltooligosaccharides (IMO), and then the effects of organic–aqueous media on the enzymatic properties of immobilized a-glucosidase were examined. An immobilization efficiency of 79.61% was obtained under the condition of pH 6.0, ionic strength of 2.0 M, and 30 mg of protein/g of resin. The butyl acetate-aqueous biphasic system was found to significantly improve the catalytic activity of the immobilized enzyme and the yield of IMO. The highest yield of IMO (50.83%, w/w) was obtained at pH 4.5 and 55 C in a butyl acetate/buffer system (25:75, v/v). In addition, the immobilized enzyme particles were distributed into the organic phase after the completion of transglycosylation, which facilitates the separation and recycling use of the immobilized enzyme. Immobilized aglucosidase retains a robust reusability in this continuous operation model. The present findings are of potential in improving the IMO manufacturing process.

        Identifying long non-coding RNAs and characterizing their functional roles in swine mammary gland from colostrogenesis to lactogenesis

        Objective: This study was conducted to identify the functional long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) for swine lactation by RNA-seq data of mammary gland. Methods: According to the RNA-seq data of swine mammary gland, we screened lncRNAs, performed differential expression analysis, and confirmed the functional lncRNAs for swine lactation by validation of genome wide association study (GWAS) signals, functional annotation and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Results: We totally identified 286 differentially expressed (DE) lncRNAs in mammary gland at different stages from 14 days prior to (-) parturition to day 1 after (+) parturition, and the expressions of most of lncRNAs were strongly changed from day –2 to day +1. Further, the GWAS signals of sow milk ability trait were significantly enriched in DE lncRNAs. Functional annotation revealed that these DE lncRNAs were mainly involved in mammary gland and lactation developing, milk composition metabolism and colostrum function. By performing weighted WGCNA, we identified 7 out of 12 lncRNA-mRNA modules that were highly associated with the mammary gland at day –14, day –2, and day +1, in which, 35 lncRNAs and 319 mRNAs were involved. Conclusion: This study suggested that 18 lncRNAs and their 20 target genes were promising candidates for swine parturition and colostrum occurrence processes. Our research provided new insights into lncRNA profiles and their regulating mechanisms from colostrogenesis to lactogenesis in swine.         Effects of two enzyme extracts of Aspergillus niger on green tea aromas

        Green tea was investigated in terms of its aroma changes induced by two enzyme extracts of Aspergillus niger, i.e., crude enzyme extracted from fermentation using tea stalk medium (CETSM) and crude enzyme yielded in potato dextrose medium. The result showed that the former had significant effects on sensory indexes and volatile constituents, with significant increases in toasty and mushroom notes, while the latter had little influence on the aforementioned indexes. In addition, the volatile constituents were significantly affected; in particular, the contents of cis-3-hexenol, 1-octen-3-ol, eucalyptol, hexanol, and benzaldehyde increased. Furthermore, gas chromatography– olfactometry (GC–O) analysis showed that an increase in 1-octen-3-ol strengthened the mushroom note. These results indicate that CETSM contains some novel enzymes that can modify the aroma profile of green tea.This study also provides valuable information and suggestions to use fermented enzymes to modify food aromas.

        Mechanical induced electrical failure of shock compressed PZT95/5 ferroelectric ceramics

        A comparative experimental study of shock compressed Pb0.99(Zr0.95Ti0.05)0.98Nb0.02O3 (hereafter referred to as PZT95/5) ferroelectric ceramics within different insulation materials were performed in this study. It was found that the insulating materials play a significant role in the electrical failure behavior of PZT95/5 ferroelectric ceramic. The electrical breakdown behavior of PZT95/5 ferroelectric ceramics within epoxy resin was observed to aggravate at low temperature 55 C. Porous PZT95/5 ferroelectric ceramic was found to exhibit lower failure probability than its dense counterpart. Electrical failure of PZT95/5 ferroelectric ceramics under shock wave was found to be an extrinsic behavior and a tentative explanation was proposed based on the mechanical compressive stress-induced cracks initiation by epoxy resin.

        Influence of Co(CH3COO)2 concentration on thermal emissivity of coatings formed on titanium alloy by micro-arc oxidation

        Ceramic thermal protection coatings on Ti6Al4V alloy were achieved by micro-arc oxidation (MAO) in the presence of Co(CH3COO)2. The morphology, crystallographic structure and chemical composition of the coating were characterized by various techniques. The thermal emission of the coating was measured by Fourier transform spectrometer apparatus. The bonding strength between the coating and substrate was studied, together with the thermal shock resistance of the coating. The results indicate that the content of Co in the coating layer significantly affects its thermal emissivity. Higher concentration of Co(CH3-COO)2 in electrolytes leads to more Co ions into the coating, which enhances the emissivity of the coating. All the coatings show bonding strength higher than 10 MPa. In addition, the coating remains stable over 40 cycles of thermal shocking. The coating formed at 4 g/L Co(CH3COO)2 displays an average spectral emissivity value more than 0.9 and bonding strength about 10.4 MPa.

        Function and Molecular Ecology Significance of Two Catechol-Degrading Gene Clusters in Pseudomonas putida ND6

        Many bacteria metabolize aromatic compounds via catechol as a catabolic intermediate, and possess multiple genes or clusters encoding catechol-cleavage enzymes. The presence of multiple isozyme-encoding genes is a widespread phenomenon that seems to give the carrying strains a selective advantage in the natural environment over those with only a single copy. In the naphthalene-degrading strain Pseudomonas putida ND6, catechol can be converted into intermediates of the tricarboxylic acid cycle via either the ortho- or meta-cleavage pathways. In this study, we demonstrated that the catechol ortho-cleavage pathway genes (catB<sub>I</sub>C<sub>I</sub>A<sub>I</sub> and catB<sub>II</sub>C<sub>II</sub>A<sub>II</sub>) on the chromosome play an important role. The cat<sub>I</sub> and cat<sub>II</sub> operons are co-transcribed, whereas catA<sub>I</sub> and catA<sub>II</sub> are under independent transcriptional regulation. We examined the binding of regulatory proteins to promoters. In the presence of cis-cis-muconate, a well-studied inducer of the cat gene cluster, CatR<sub>I</sub> and CatR<sub>II</sub> occupy an additional downstream site, designated as the activation binding site. Notably, CatR<sub>I</sub> binds to both the cat<sub>I</sub> and cat<sub>II</sub> promoters with high affinity, while CatR<sub>II</sub> binds weakly. This is likely caused by a T to G mutation in the G/T-N11-A motif. Specifically, we found that CatR<sub>I</sub> and CatR<sub>II</sub> regulate catB<sub>I</sub>C<sub>I</sub>A<sub>I</sub> and catB<sub>II</sub>C<sub>II</sub>A<sub>II</sub> in a cooperative manner, which provides new insights into naphthalene degradation.
