Objective: To evaluate the clinical outcome and parameters related to coexisting endometrial carcinoma in women with tissuediagnosed endometrial hyperplasia. Methods: Between January 1991 and December 2009, three hundred and eighty-six patients with the presumptive diagnosis of endometrial hyperplasia were retrieved. Among these, one hundred and twenty-five patients were identified as having coexisting endometrial carcinoma in hysterectomy specimens. The three hundred and eighty-six patients were divided into two groups: the hyperplasia-benign group (261 cases) and the hyperplasia-malignant group (125 cases). Several clinical parameters including age, menopausal status, history of abnormal uterine bleeding, obstetrical history, medical history of diabetes and hypertension, BMI, and preoperative pathologic results were investigated. Results: Age ≥53 (odds ratio [OR], 2.40; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.26 to 4.57), menopausal status (OR, 2.07; 95% CI, 1.14to 3.76), diabetes history (OR, 7.33; 95% CI, 2.79 to 19.26), abnormal uterine bleeding (OR, 3.99; 95% CI, 1.22 to 13.02), atypical endometrial hyperplasia (OR, 7.38; 95% CI, 4.03 to 13.49), and body mass index ≥27 (OR, 3.24; 95% CI, 1.76 to 5.97) were independent risk factors for prediction of endometrial hyperplasia coexisting with endometrial carcinoma. The diagnostic efficacy of atypical endometrial hyperplasia to predict the endometrial hyperplasia coexisting with endometrial carcinoma was better than or similar to those of other independent factors and combinations of these factors. Conclusion: Coexisting malignancy should be considered when examining endometrial hyperplasia patients with the related risk factors, especially atypical endometrial hyperplasia.
Two New Species of Placolecis (Lichenized Ascomycota) from China

Two new species of the lichen genus Placolecis are discovered in China, namely P. kunmingensis An. C. Yin & Li S. Wang and P. sublaevis An. C. Yin & Li S. Wang. The new combination P. loekoesiana (S.Y. Kondr., Farkas, J.J. Woo & Hur) An. C. Yin is proposed. Placolecis kunmingensis is characterized by having simple, spherical or ellipsoid, hyaline spores, and pear-shaped pycnidia; while P. sublaevis can be distinguished by its thallus forming larger aggregations with slightly flattened lobes at the thallus margin, and urn-shaped pycnidia. Descriptions, a phylogenetic tree and a key are provided for all the known Placolecis species in China.
Inhibitory Effects of $(1R,9S)-{\beta}-Hydrastine$ on Calcium Transport in PC12 Cells

[ $(1R,9S)-{\beta} ]-Hydrastine$ (BHS), at $100{\mu}M$, has been shown to mainly reduce the $K^+-induced$ dopamine release and $Ca^{2+}$ influx by blocking the L-type $Ca^{2+}$ channel and inhibit the caffeine activated store-operated $Ca^{2+}$ channels, but not those activated by thapsigargin, in PC12 cells. In this study, the effects of BHS on $Ca^{2+}$ transport from $Ca^{2+}$ stores in the absence of external $Ca^{2+}$ were investigated in PC12 cells. BHS decreased the basal intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ concentration $([Ca^{2+}]_i)$ in the absence of external $Ca^{2+}$ in PC12 cells. In the absence of external $Ca^{2+}$, pre-treating PC12 cells with $100{\mu}M$ BHS reduced the rapid increase in the $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ elicited by 20mM caffeine, but not that by $1{\mu}M$ thapsigargin. In addition, BHS inhibited the increase in the $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ elicited by restoration of 2mM $CaCl_2$ after the $Ca^{2+}$ stores had been depleted by 20mM caffeine, but not those depleted by $1{\mu}M$ thapsigargin, in the absence of external $Ca^{2+}$. These results suggested that BHS mainly inhibited $Ca^{2+}$ leakage from the $Ca^{2+}$ stores and the caffeine-stimulated release of $Ca^{2+}$ from the caffeine-sensitive $Ca^{2+}$ stores in PC12 cells.

Background: Ginsenosides are the major effective ingredients responsible for the pharmacological effects of ginseng. Malonyl ginsenosides are natural ginsenosides that contain a malonyl group attached to a glucose unit of the corresponding neutral ginsenosides. Methods: Medium-pressure liquid chromatography and semipreparative high-performance liquid chromatography were used to isolate purified compounds and their structures determined by extensive one-dimensional- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments. Results: A new saponin, namely malonyl-ginsenoside Re, was isolated from the fresh flower buds of Panax ginseng, along with malonyl-ginsenosides Rb1, Rb2, Rc, Rd. Some assignments for previously published ¹H- and <SUP>13</SUP>C-NMR spectra were found to be inaccurate. Conclusion: This study reports the complete NMR assignment of malonyl-ginsenoside Re, Rb₁, Rb₂, Rc, and Rd for the first time.

In this paper, the exchange market pressure(EMP) was defined as the abnormal values of the weighted average of changes in Fisher’s exchange rates, in interest rates and in international reserves, and developed stylized facts concerning the univariate behavior of a variety of macroeconomic variables. We selected nine macroeconomic indicators of China from Q1/1980 TO Q2/2005, compared their behavioral characteristics among the three exchange rate arrangements (ERAs) and between the two events of calm and pressure, and tried to tie these results to China’s actual economic situation. Results shown that the following characteristics emerged in EMP: sharp letting down of CPI%. depreciation of nominal monetary, and growth of credit.

This study investigated the effects of acarbose addition on changes in ruminal fermentation characteristics and the composition of the ruminal bacterial community in vitro using batch cultures. Rumen fluid was collected from the rumens of three cannulated Holstein cattle fed forage ad libitum that was supplemented with 6 kg of concentrate. The batch cultures consisted of 8 mL of strained rumen fluid in 40 mL of an anaerobic buffer containing 0.49 g of corn grain, 0.21 g of soybean meal, 0.15 g of alfalfa and 0.15g of Leymus chinensis. Acarbose was added to incubation bottles to achieve final concentrations of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 mg/mL. After incubation for 24 h, the addition of acarbose linearly decreased (p<0.05) the total gas production and the concentrations of acetate, propionate, butyrate, total volatile fatty acids, lactate and lipopolysaccharide (LPS). It also linearly increased (p<0.05) the ratio of acetate to propionate, the concentrations of isovalerate, valerate and ammonia-nitrogen and the pH value compared with the control. Pyrosequencing of the 16S rRNA gene showed that the addition of acarbose decreased (p<0.05) the proportion of Firmicutes and Proteobacteria and increased (p<0.05) the percentage of Bacteroidetes, Fibrobacteres, and Synergistetes compared with the control. A principal coordinates analysis plot based on unweighted UniFrac values and molecular variance analysis revealed that the structure of the ruminal bacterial communities in the control was different to that of the ruminal microbiota in the acarbose group. In conclusion, acarbose addition can affect the composition of the ruminal microbial community and may be potentially useful for preventing the occurrence of ruminal acidosis and the accumulation of LPS in the rumen.

An alkaloid, 3-methylcanthin-5, 6-dione, was isolated from the stem of Picrasma quassioides (D. Don) Benn. and characterized by comprehensive analyses of its 1D and 2D NMR spectra. It was also evaluated for its cytotoxic activity in vitro against three human cancer cell lines (MDA-MB-231, HT-29 and NCI-N87), using MTT assays. We found that 3-methylcanthin-5, 6-dione exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity via inhibiting NO production induced in LPS-stimulated murine macrophage RAW264.7 cells. The antioxidant activity of 3-methylcanthin-5, 6-dione was measured by DPPH free radical scavenging assays, hydroxyl radical scavenging assays and reducing power assays. Our results showed that 3-methylcanthin-5, 6-dione has significant biological activities.
A Factor Analysis of Chinese University EFL Learners’ Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety

ABSTRACT: The subjects of the present study were 344 college students from China. They responded to a 5-point likert scale questionnaire adapted from Horwitz’s Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS). Their responses to the questionnaire were submitted to exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis (with the help of SPSS and AMOS statistical package) for identifying anxiety dimensions. The results showed that there existed four dimensions of the FLCAS and the four-factor model adequately fit the data. The fit indices also suggested that the instrument measuring the dimensions of anxiety specific to college students in China was construct-wise valid and reliable for future use and it may also provide some reference for measuring anxiety dimensions in similar cultural context countries like Korea and Japan
