The purposes of the present study were to estimate the prevalence of learning disabilities in the elementary school children and to identify the behavioral characteristics of learning disabled children. The standardized school achievement tests for Korean and arithmetic, intelligence test and the Myklebust's pupil Rating Scale(1981) were used as instruments. In the study, the students with general IQ above 80 but obtained Z-scores lower than-2were regarded as learning disabled children. It was found in the study that the prevalence of learning disab1ed children among 2662(boys 1397, girls 1265) in grade 3 from 18 elementary schools located in various areas in Taegu city and Kyung Sang Buk Do was 102(boys 55, girls 47), 3.83%. The Comparison of behavioral characteristics reflected on the Mykhebust's scale between learning disabled and non-disabled students were significantly different on the all of the 24 subscales of the measurement. The most significant differences were found on the orientation and spoken language subscales. Thus, learnieg disabled children were characterized by their poor abilities in finding places, conceptual judgement, time concept and expression in spoken language.

we are taking a growing interests in special education and vocational rehabilitation for learning disabled students, but our approaches to them are not enough to meet their specific needs. In this paper, the special education and vocational rehabilitation for learning disabled students are reviewed, which implies the followings; First, the special education and vocational rehabilitation for LD students should be established legally and systematically. Second, our classifications for the handicapped should be improved to include all the handicapped, because present classification systems are much more simplfied than those of WHO's. Third, learning disabilities are lifelong probelms of individuals, therefore LD definition should be reconsidered in terms of special education and vocational rehabilitation, and educational approachs to them should be consider with their vocational rehabilitation. Fourth, being implemented through educational-industrial cooperation, special and vocational rehabilitation for LD will surmount the limitations in school environments and be able to expect more efficient results. In addition, more concrete subtypes of LD and appropriate programs for them should be studied and developed respectively. Educational systems for special teachers and rehabilitation specialists in this field should be prepared in college level.
단백체를 이용한 애기장대 Cytokinin 유도 단백질의 분석

Cytokinins are essential plant hormones that play crucial roles in various aspects of plant growth and development. To better understand the molecular mechanisms of cytokinin action, we identified cytokinin related proteins by a proteomic approach. Proteins extracted from control and trans-zeatin treated Arabidopsis seedlings were separated and analyzed by two dimensional gel analysis. Differentially expressed protein spots were identified with peptide mass fingerprinting based on matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry and database searching. We obtained ten up-regulated and one down-regulated proteins upon t-zeatin treatment. The expression of the following proteins was induced; pollen allergen like protein, L-ascorbate peroxidase, tetrapyrrole methylase family protein, SGT1 protein homolog, disease resistance related protein, maternal embryogenesis control protein, paxneb related protein, gluthathione S-transferase and IAA amino acid hydrolase homolog.

Complementary DNA encoding chloroplast outer envelope membrane protein (OEP) from the halophyte Salicornia herbacea has been cloned and sequenced. The full length cDNA is 596 bp and encodes a polypeptide of 91 amino acid residues with a molecular mass of 8.9 kDa. The expression level of ShOEP increased by salt, drought and ABA treatments. ShOEP expression was largely induced in roots and shoots by high salts. The biological function of ShOEP was examined by yeast complementation. ShOEP can suppress Na+ sensitivity of yeast mutant (cnbΔ) in the presence of salt. These results suggest that ShOEP is a salt inducible gene and may have functions in the regulation of plant salt stress.
결핵성 육아종에서 Thioredoxin peroxidase-2 의 발현

Background: Thioredoxin peroxidase(TPX) is a kind of recently discovered antioxidant enzyme which react as rapid hydrogen ion donor for the removal of hydroperoxide. The action and distribution of the TPX was poorly understood in the human diseases. This experiments were designed for the study about the distribution of the TPX in the chronic granulomatous inflammation and about the correlation between the expression of TPX and the site of inflammation, histological activities of tuberculous inflammation or existence of mycobacterium in the inflammatory foci. Methods: The immunohistochemical stains were performed for the localization of the TPX-2 in the epithelioid cells, giant cells and lymphocytes in the chronic granulomatous inflammation. The tissue sections were obtained from the paraffin blocks of the 54 cases of tuberculosis (lung 21 cases, lymph node 12 cases, bone and soft tissue 12 cases, kidney 9 cases; active 33 cases, inactive 21 cases by the histologic classification; presence of mycobacterium 15 cases, no mycobacterium 39 cases by PCR reaction). Results: The expression of TPX-2 was 16.7% in the giant cells, 27.8% in the epithelioid cells and 100% in the lymphocytes of tuberculous inflammations. The expression of TPX-2 in the giant cells and epithelioid cells of the tuberculosis were 28.6% and 57.1% of the pulmonary tuberculosis; 33.3% in each cells of the renal tuberculosis; 0% in each cells of the lymph node or bone and soft tissue tuberculosis. The expression of TPX-2 in the giant cells and epithelioid cells were 9.1% in each cells of the active tuberculosis and were 28.6% and 57.1% in each cells of the inactive tuberculosis by histologic classification. The expression of TPX-2 in the giant cells and epithelioid cells was 40% in each cells of tuberculosis which mycobacteria were detected and the expression of TPX-2 was 7.7% and 23.1% in each cells which mycobacteria were not detected by PCR reaction in the paraffin embedded tissue. Conclusions: The above results were summarized that the TPX-2 in the giant cells and epithelioid cells were more frequently expressed in the inactive tuberculosis than in the active tuberculosis. These results suggest that the TPX-2 is a kind of regulating or suppressing factors in the activity of the tuberculosis.

A 35-year-old man, previously hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) carrier, presented with gross hematuria and heavy proteinuria that he had been suffering from for 1 month. Serum creatinine was 4.4 mg/dL. Renal biopsy showed pauci-immune crescentic glomerulonephritis. He received plasmapheresis and was treated with high-dose steroids and cyclophosphamide. Lamivudine was started for the prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) activation. Serum creatinine and proteinuria were ameliorated one week after the treatment. There was no sign of HBV activation after six months of treatment. We report a case of rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis in a HBV carrier successfully treated with high dose immunosuppressive therapy and prophylactic lamivudine.

Menetrier's disease is a rare, characterized by the presence of large rugal folds involving part or all of the stomach. Patients with hypertrophic gastropathy often have distressing abdominal symptoms, weight loss, and edema due to gastric protem loss. A 64 year old male patient was admitted with the chief complaint of epigastric discomfort. Endoscopic, radiologic and histologic examination, revealed characteristic findings of Menetrier's disease. A case of Menetrier's disease is reported with a brief review of literature.
