Effect of a Carbon Additive on the TbCu7-type Melt-spun Sm(Co, M)7 (M=Ti, Zr, Hf, V and Ge) Ribbons

The effect of a carbon additive on the microstructure and the magnetic properties of melt-spunSmCo7−xMxCy (M=Ti, Zr, Hf, V and Ge; x = 0 - 0.3 and y = 0 - 0.1) ribbons was studied. Based on the XRD and the TEM analyses, a pure 1:7 phase could be formed for the C-containingribbons with M= Ti and Ge. However, carbide phases, i.e., Sm2C3 for M=Zr and Hf, and SmCoC2for M=V, respectively, were found. Nevertheless, a slight C addition may effectively refine themicrostructure and improve both the intrinsic coercvity and the magnetic energy product in all thestudied ribbons. Among them, the SmCo6.9V0.1C0.1 ribbons with r = 58.7 emu/g, iHc = 13.5kOe and (BH)max = 9.3 MGOe, and the SmCo6.9Hf0.1C0.1 ribbons with r = 61.6 emu/g, iHc =11.8 kOe and (BH)max = 10.3 MGOe are most suitable for the bonded magnet applications.

We studied a family with Gorlin-Goltz syndrome. The novel mutations of our cases were located on the 21st exon of the PTCH1 gene (c.3450C>G). The father, who received a strategic 56-day vismodegib treatment for disease control, was the first patient with Gorlin syndrome treated with the hedgehog inhibitor in Taiwan. The lesions regressed gradually, with scar formation, and were subsequently removed via a wide excision. Further details are provided below. (Ann Dermatol 30(5) 597∼601, 2018)
Development of Automatic Supplementary Lighting System for Greenhouses

To solve the agricultural damages caused by the climate change, this study is developed to build an automatic supplementary lighting platform for plant factories. The platform mainly uses aluminum as materials. The lighting strategy will depend on the DPI. During the day, platform parked at the original position and uses quantum sensor to accumulate the daylight. At night, it moved to the supplementary lighting area and provides lighting to plants. The platform is operated in cooperation with a PLC control system, and uses RFID and limit switch as a local positioning system at plant factories. In supplementary lighting area, lifting system detects the height of plants to adjust the level of lampshade accordingly. The study operated 10 times movement experiments, after first 5 times calibration, the success rate of last 5 times moving positioning is 93%, and the success rate of 10 times lifting experiments is 98%. The platform can provide an average of 354 μmol /㎡ /s light intensity within the distance of 10cm from the plants, and 3.27 μmol CO<sub>2</sub> / ㎡ / s if it is within the photosynthesis characteristic of lettuce. Based on the results of two-week experiment, it can be confirmed that supplementary lighting is able to provide sufficient lighting to plants during the night, and reach DPI standard of each supplementary lighting area.

As the flourish of today's supply chain, the traditional model of replenishment will cause accumulation of excessive inventory to the retailers and customers, or cause shortages and inability to meet the demands. To solve this problem, Theory of Constraints (TOC) proposed the replenishment model of demand-pull, combined with the establishment of factory-ware-house to achieve performance improvement. In the absence of empirical research, this study applied the Bean Game developed by Dr. Goldratt to design a supply chain system for different scenarios, in order to allow players and managers better understanding and supporting the TOC replenishment method through the operations of the game.
New Time-Domain Decoder for Correcting both Errors and Erasures of Reed-Solomon Codes

A new time-domain decoder of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes is proposed. Because this decoder can correct both errors and erasures without computing the erasure locator, the errata locator, or errata evaluator polynomial, the computational complexity can be substantially reduced. Herein, to demonstrate the benefit, the (255, 223) and the (63, 39) RS codes are used as examples for the comparisons of computational complexity of the proposed decoder with two well-known related decoders. The comparisons show that the proposed decoder always has lower computational requirement to decode all combination of u erasures and v errors than both the well-known related decoders on the condition of 2v+u<=d_min -1 where d_min denotes the minimum distance of the RS code. Moreover, the benefit is more evident if u becomes larger.

Background/Aims: Real-world studies assessing the effectiveness and safety of sofosbuvir/velpatasvir (SOF/VEL) plus ribavirin (RBV) for Child-Pugh B/C hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related cirrhosis are limited. Methods: We included 107 patients with Child-Pugh B/C HCV-related cirrhosis receiving SOF/VEL plus RBV for 12 weeks in Taiwan. The sustained virologic response rates at off-treatment week 12 (SVR<sub>12</sub>) for the evaluable population (EP), modified EP, and per-protocol population (PP) were assessed. The safety profiles were reported. Results: The SVR<sub>12</sub> rates in the EP, modified EP and PP were 89.7% (95% confidence interval [CI], 82.5-94.2%), 94.1% (95% CI, 87.8-97.3%), and 100% (95% CI, 96.2-100%). Number of patients who failed to achieve SVR<sub>12</sub> were attributed to virologic failures. The SVR<sub>12</sub> rates were comparable regardless of patient characteristics. One patient discontinued treatment because of adverse events (AEs). Twenty-four patients had serious AEs and six died, but none were related to SOF/VEL or RBV. Among the 96 patients achieving SVR<sub>12</sub>, 84.4% and 64.6% had improved Child-Pugh and model for endstage liver disease (MELD) scores. Multivariate analysis revealed that a baseline MELD score ≥15 was associated with an improved MELD score of ≥3 (odds ratio, 4.13; 95% CI, 1.16-14.71; P=0.02). Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 1 had more significant estimated glomerular filtration rate declines than patients with CKD stage 2 (-0.42 mL/min/1.73 ㎡/month; P=0.01) or stage 3 (-0.56 mL/min/1.73 ㎡/month; P<0.001). Conclusions: SOF/VEL plus RBV for 12 weeks is efficacious and well-tolerated for Child-Pugh B/C HCV-related cirrhosis. (Clin Mol Hepatol 2021;27:575-588)

In this study, an inductorless broadband transimpedance amplifier (TIA) is implemented using TSMC 90-nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. A regulated cascode circuit with low input impedance is used as the input stage of the TIA. The core amplifier is a fully differential amplifier with active feedback. The output stage of the TIA is an equalizer based on a differential amplifier with a source degenerated resistor and capacitor. The TIA has a bandwidth of 24.8 GHz and good linearity. In the TIA chip testing, clear 25-Gb/s nonreturn to zero and 50-Gb/s four-level pulse amplitude modulation eye diagrams can be observed.
