This paper described the effect of RC discharging and pulse generation for micro-EDM of micro-hole fabrication with Al₂O₃/CNTs hybrid nanocomposites. Alumina matrix composites reinforced with CNTs were fabricated by CNT purification, mixing, compaction and sintering processes. Al₂O₃ nanocomposites with different CNT concentrations were successfully synthesized. The mechanical and electrical characteristics of Al₂O₃/CNTs composites were examined in order to evaluate machining characteristics. The pulse driven circuit was newly designed to evaluate the machining property using RC discharge and pulsed generator. Characterization of machined micro holes was conducted by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM) after actual RC Discharged EDM and pulse driven EDM, respectively.
Fast Super-Resolution GAN 기반 자동차 번호판 검출 및 인식 성능 고도화 기법

자동차 번호판 인식 기술은 도로의 교통상황 통제, 과속차량 단속, 도주 차량의 추적 등 현대 교통 시설 및 교통 안전망을 책임지고 있는 핵심 기술 중 하나이다. 이 기법은 과거에도 연구되었던 분야였으나 최근 딥러닝 기술의 발전으로 다양한 기법들을 적용하여 향상된 성능을 보이는 분야이며, 크게 자동차 번호판 검출과 번호판 인식으로 나뉜다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 객체 검출 모델과 WPOD-Net(Warped Planar Object Detection Network) 모델을 활용하여 자동차 번호판 검출 성능을 향상시키기 위한 실험을 진행하였으며, 객체 검출 모델을 활용하여 번호판을 검출하는 기존 방식들 대신 차량을 검출한 다음 번호판을 검출하는 방식을 택하여 정확도를 높였다. 특히 Super-Resolution 기법 중 하나인 Fast-SRGAN 모델을 활용하여 이미지 내에 존재하는 노이즈를 제거하는 처리를 통해 최종 성능을 향상시켰다. 결과적으로 92.38%에서 96.72%로 선행 연구 대비 평균 4.34% 향상된 성능이 실험을 통해 확인되었다. Vehicle License Plate Recognition is one of the approaches for transportation and traffic safety networks, such as traffic control, speed limit enforcement and runaway vehicle tracking. Although it has been studied for decades, it is attracting more and more attention due to the recent development of deep learning and improved performance. Also, it is largely divided into license plate detection and recognition. In this study, experiments were conducted to improve license plate detection performance by utilizing various object detection methods and WPOD-Net(Warped Planar Object Detection Network) model. The accuracy was improved by selecting the method of detecting the vehicle(s) and then detecting the license plate(s) instead of the conventional method of detecting the license plate using the object detection model. In particular, the final performance was improved through the process of removing noise existing in the image by using the Fast-SRGAN model, one of the Super-Resolution methods. As a result, this experiment showed the performance has improved an average of 4.34% from 92.38% to 96.72% compared to previous studies.

Background and Objectives Primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of thyroid is an unusual tumor, accounted for approximately 1.1% of all neoplasms of the thyroid gland. It is highly lethal, like anaplastic thyroid carcinoma, in terms of aggressive clinical behavior. In the literature, the best treatment of this tumor is by surgery and the use of combination therapy that includes postoperative radiation, chemotherapy and radioiodine therapy; however, the effect of treatment is very poor. This study aims to identify the clinical features of SCC of thyroid, and to devise a better treatment method. Subjects and Method Journals citing SCC of thyroid were identified from Pubmed, Korea Med, and Google and the clinical records reported therewithin from 1990 to 2013 were reviewed. A total of 40 patients were analyzed from 21 well-organized papers by searching the following keywords: squamous cell carcinoma, primary, thyroid, excerpt of the patient’s age, sex, clinical features, pathologic findings, therapy, course and prognosis. Results We analyzed the treatment results of 40 patients from a total of 21 papers. Patients, consisting of 17 men and 23 women, were found in the age range of 24-88, with the mean age of 63.2. The follow-up period ranged from one to 96 months, with the mean being 15 months, and the size of the mass varied from 1 cm to 15 cm. Histopathologically, we found 13 patients with only SCC mixture of SCC and 22 patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). Each of the following diseases were identified with one patient: a mixture of SCC and Hashimoto thyroiditis, a mixture of follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC), SCC and FTC and mixed Hurtle cell cancer, SCC and PTC and mixed Hashimoto thyroiditis, and SCC, PTC with mixed insula cancer. Thirty-two patients underwent total thyroidectomy, and 30 patients underwent total thyroidectomy accompanied by neck dissection. Twelve patients received postoperative radiation therapy, and five patients received postoperative chemotherapy. Nineteen patients were observed without recurrence of the disease, and ten patients were found to be in stage III or less. Conclusion SCC of the thyroid showed aggressive clinical characteristics, however, good results can be expected with early diagnosis and treatment. If tumor is found only within the thyroid, we expect good therapeutic results after the same treatment as PTC.

Primary ampullary carcinoma is one of rare gastrointestinal malignancies which can be diagnosed by ERCP and endoscopic biopsy. However, sometimes it is difficult to comfirm the diagnosis when the tumor is not exposed out of orifice of ampulla. Recently, we diagnosed early stage ampullary carcinoma using endoscopic sphincetrotomy for the exposure of tumor in 54 year old woman ia whom ERCP revealed rather impacted stone like filling defect in distal common bile duct. we describe a case of papillary adenocarcinoma of the ampulla of Vater diagnosed by edoscopic sphincterotomy.
