Compositional meanings in Chinese subtitle translation: A multimodal analysis of Mulan
( Yuping Chen ),( Wei Wang ) 이화여자대학교 통역번역연구소 2017 T&I review Vol.7 No.-
While roles of semiotic interplay in subtitle translation have been widely acknowledged, scant research has been done to examine how visual and verbal modes really interact with each other to produce a coherent and cohesive whole of a subtitled film. Drawing on the concepts of compositional meanings and semiotic cohesion informed by systemic functional linguistics, this paper conducts a multimodal analysis of the Chinese subtitles in an English language film Mulan, focusing on examining compositional meanings from three aspects: types, functions of semiotic interrelations and impacts on linguistic parts of subtitles. This paper finds that co-referentiality (Halliday and Hasan 1985) is the most predominant cohesive relation between subtitle and image, which exerts more impacts on linguistic parts relating to identification of subtitles. This finding can be seen in two implicit encoding devices of anaphora and cataphora. It suggests that a subtitling unit is not limited to a filmic unit of shot, but goes far beyond it, which contributes to maintaining the narrative flow in subtitled films. These findings deserve to be further explored in examination of subtitling practice and construction of theoretical models in this growing field of research.

Based on cascaded second harmonic generation and difference-frequency generation interactions and employing a type-I quasi-phase-matching technique in MgO-doped periodically poled lithium niobate, we realized wavelength conversion of a 70-femtosecond pulse without pulse broadening at the group-velocity-matching wavelength. Due to the 25 nm bandwidth of second harmonic generation obtained in a 20-mm-long crystal, we convert a 70-fs pulse centered at 1.56 μm by using a continuous-wave signal at 1.60 μm. No obvious distortion or broadening of the converted pulse was observed. Electro-Optics and Its Applications in Domain-Inverted Optical Superlattice

We demonstrate an electro-optic ˇSolc-type wavelength filter in periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN). ˇSolc-type transmission spectrum is observed experimentally in a PPLN with four periods from 20.2 μm to 20.8 μm. Modulation of transmission power of the filter can be realized by applying electric fields along Y -axis of PPLN. It is observed that the wavelength can also be tuned by temperature. Furthermore, we report on a theoretical analysis for the narrowband multiplewavelength filter in aperiodic optical superlattice (AOS). The sequences of the opposite domains in AOS are optimized to realize the prescribed multiple-wavelength filtering by using a simulatedannealing (SA) algorithm. The influences of domain errors, as well as the working temperature, on the performance of the filters are also studied.

Novel small-molecule polysaccharide fractions, named POP II and POP III, were purified from Portulacaoleracea L. with average Mw values of 9.25 and 8.03 kDa,respectively. Monosaccharide analysis revealed that POP IIwas composed of Rha, Ara, Man, Glc, and Gal with molarratios of 1: 1.42: 0.44: 0.88: 1.59. POP III was composedof Rha, Ara, Glc, and Gal with molar ratios of 1: 1.16:0.23: 0.59. The antioxidant activities of the fractions wereevaluated using cell-free and cell-mediated radical generatingsystems. POPII and POP III possessed strong antioxidantactivities in both systems. The 2 novel polysaccharidefractions extracted from P. oleracea L. can be developed asnatural antioxidants for treatment of free radical-relateddiseases.
Research on Finite-Time Consensus of Multi-Agent Systems
Chen, Lijun,Zhang, Yu,Li, Yuping,Xia, Linlin Korea Information Processing Society 2019 Journal of information processing systems Vol.15 No.2
In order to ensure second-order multi-agent systems (MAS) realizing consensus more quickly in a limited time, a new protocol is proposed. In this new protocol, the gradient algorithm of the overall cost function is introduced in the original protocol to enhance the connection between adjacent agents and improve the moving speed of each agent in the MAS. Utilizing Lyapunov stability theory, graph theory and homogeneity theory, sufficient conditions and detailed proof for achieving a finite-time consensus of the MAS are given. Finally, MAS with three following agents and one leading agent is simulated. Moreover, the simulation results indicated that this new protocol could make the system more stable, more robust and convergence faster when compared with other protocols.

The particularity of the prison decides the importance of its security system, and how to improve the accuracy of personnel positioning for prison monitoring system is the problem to be solved to realize intelligent prison monitoring management. RFID positioning technology with non line-of-sight transmission and large transmission range is widely applied in the personnel positioning system. RFID technology is used to design the monitoring and management system of prison in this paper. The Trilateral Ranging Method was adopted to realize personnel positioning. RSSI positioning algorithm its technology is relatively simple was adopted when calculating the trilateral distance and correcting the errors in order to improve the positioning precision. Simulation test results show that the positioning precision for the distance between a single reader and the tag is increased by 2.17% on average, up to 4.54% after the error correction. The personnel location coordinates, X direction average error is 2.96%, average error is 3.12%, Y direction, and meeting the requirements of the system design.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) in different ethnicities has been described in the literature, but few cases in patients of Chinese descent have been reported. Here, we describe the case of a Chinese neonate presenting with HLH carrying novel, compound heterozygous mutations of the UNC13D gene, including [c.2295_2298delGCAG, p.Glu765Aspfs*27] in exon 23, c.-250C>T, c.1+30G>A, c.279C>T, c.888G>C, c.18+36A>G, c.20-48T>C, c.1977C>T, c.2296C>T, c.24-46C>T, c.26-9_26-8insC, c.2599A>G, c.28+48C>T and c.3198A>G, some of which have not been reported in the literature. Cytokine profile analyses were performed in this patient, and the results were consistent with our previous findings in HLH patients. Cytokine profile monitoring may be helpful in differentiating among various clinical phases of HLH.

Optimization of ultrasonic extraction of Portulacaoleracea L. flavonoids (POF) was investigated using single-factorexperimentation combined with response surface methodology. The optimal conditions for the highest yield (16.25 mg RE/g DW)of POF was 39.01% ethanol, 55.25oC extraction temperature, 15min extraction time, and 23.92 (v/m) liquid-to-solid ratio. Thecrude extract of POF was purified on the polyamide resin. 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, a yellowtetrazole assays of the flavonoids were evaluated, which suggestedthe concentrations of the flavonoids (0-1 mg/mL) and quercetin(0-1 mg/mL). Quercetin was identified in the extract by comparingrelative retention time of the reference standard.
