        Optimization of Ultrasonic-assisted Extraction of Flavonoid from Portulaca oleracea L. by Response Surface Methodology and Chemical Composition Analysis

        Optimization of ultrasonic extraction of Portulacaoleracea L. flavonoids (POF) was investigated using single-factorexperimentation combined with response surface methodology. The optimal conditions for the highest yield (16.25 mg RE/g DW)of POF was 39.01% ethanol, 55.25oC extraction temperature, 15min extraction time, and 23.92 (v/m) liquid-to-solid ratio. Thecrude extract of POF was purified on the polyamide resin. 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, a yellowtetrazole assays of the flavonoids were evaluated, which suggestedthe concentrations of the flavonoids (0-1 mg/mL) and quercetin(0-1 mg/mL). Quercetin was identified in the extract by comparingrelative retention time of the reference standard.

        Effect of passivator DHJ-C on the growth and cadmium accumulation of Brassica napus in Cd-contaminated soil

        The farmland polluted by cadmium is increasing drastically, which seriously threatened agricultural production and food safety. Nowadays, efficient and convenient way to solve the problem is urgently needed. In this experiment, a particular compound passivator DHJ-C was applied for soil remediation by pot experiment and the effect on both soil and plant was evaluated. The DHJ-C reduced the toxicity of Cd on soil enzyme activity and growth inhibition on Brassica napus. The soil urease and sucrase activity were significantly increased. The dry weight of mature oilseed rape increased by 14.6–36.0% and the yield of seeds increased by 14.1–52% per plant, which suggested that the passivator effectively reduced the detrimental effects on rape. Similarly, the results of physiology and biochemistry also indicated that DHJ-C can distinctly alleviate the inhibitory effect of Cd on plant growth. Such as the MDA content in plant was reduced by 52.1% in 10 mg/kg Cd treatment. Compared with control, Cd accumulation in seedling stage and mature period was significantly reduced as the concentration of Cd in aboveground part even decreased by 18.4 and 32.0% respectively. Overall, DHJ-C hold sufficient ability to be applied as an excellent passivator to reduce Cd toxicity in contaminated soil and significantly increase the yield of rapeseed.

        Esophagogastric Junction Contractility Integral Reflect the Anti-reflux Barrier Dysfunction in Patients with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

        Background/Aims Anti-reflux barrier dysfunction is one of the primary mechanisms in gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) pathogenesis. The esophagogastric junction contractile integral (EGJ-CI) is a new metric adopted to evaluate the EGJ contractility, which implies the antireflux barrier function. The aim of the current study was to validate this new metric in patients with GERD and its correlation with the esophageal acid exposure, as well as the efficacy of proton pump inhibitor treatment. Methods Ninety-eight patients with GERD and 21 healthy controls were included in the study. Upper endoscopy, high-resolution manometry (HRM) and 24-hour multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH monitoring were performed in all patients. Three respiration cycles were chosen at the initial HRM resting frame and the value computed with distal contractile integral tool was then divided by the duration of the cycles to yield EGJ-CI. All the patients were treated with esomeprazole 20 mg twice-daily for 8 weeks. Results EGJ-CI was lower in the patients with GERD than that of the controls (P < 0.05). For patients with GERD, EGJ-CI was lower in those with hiatal hernia (P < 0.05). The new metric correlated with esophageal acid exposure in the supine position (P < 0.05), and it also negatively correlated to the total reflux episodes (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference on EGJ-CI between patients with and without response to the esomeprazole treatment (P = 0.627). Conclusions EGJ-CI reflected the dysfunction of the anti-reflux barrier in patients with GERD, but it had little impact on the esomeprazole response. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2017;23:27-33)

        Temperature distribution analysis of steel box-girder based on long-term monitoring data

        Temperature may have more significant influences on structural responses than operational loads or structural damage. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of temperature distributions has great significance for proper design and maintenance of bridges. In this study, the temperature distribution of the steel box girder is systematically investigated based on the structural health monitoring system (SHMS) of the Sutong Cable-stayed Bridge. Specifically, the characteristics of the temperature and temperature difference between different measurement points are studied based on field temperature measurements. Accordingly, the probability density distributions of the temperature and temperature difference are calculated statistically, which are further described by the general formulas. The results indicate that: (1) the temperature and temperature difference exhibit distinct seasonal characteristics and strong periodicity, and the temperature and temperature difference among different measurement points are strongly correlated, respectively; (2) the probability density of the temperature difference distribution presents strong non-Gaussian characteristics; (3) the probability density function of temperature can be described by the weighted sum of four Normal distributions. Meanwhile, the temperature difference can be described by the weighted sum of Weibull distribution and Normal distribution.

        The Impact of Prolonged Duration of Untreated Illness on Clinical Correlates in Chronic Schizophrenia: Exploring the Relationship With Suicide Risk

        Objective Studies on duration of untreated psychosis are common in patients with schizophrenia, but few studies have investigated the relationship between duration of untreated illness (DUI) and suicide, especially in patients with chronic schizophrenia. Therefore, we intended to investigate the relationship between DUI and suicide and clinical correlates in patients with chronic schizophrenia.Methods A total of 1,555 Chinese patients with chronic schizophrenia were enrolled in this study. DUI was measured in years, reflecting the prolonged untreated periods observed in this population. Clinical correlates were assessed, including symptoms, cognitive functioning, and body mass index. Suicidal ideation and attempts were also examined. Statistical analyses, including multivariate models, were employed to investigate the associations between DUI and clinical correlates while controlling for potential confounders.Results The study revealed a significant proportion (23.3%) of patients with chronic schizophrenia in China received their first treatment after a 4-year delay, with the longest untreated duration reaching 39 years. Patients with longer DUI exhibited more severe negative symptoms, lower immediate memory scores, a higher likelihood of being overweight, and surprisingly, a reduced likelihood of suicidal ideation and attempts. Each additional year of untreated illness was associated with a 3% decrease in the risk of suicidal ideation and attempts.Conclusion The findings underscore the prevalence of extended untreated periods in Chinese patients with chronic schizophrenia and highlight the impact of DUI on negative symptoms, cognitive function, and body weight. Intriguingly, a longer DUI was associated with a lower risk of suicidal ideation and attempts.

        Expression profiling identified IL-8 as a regulator of homotypic cell-in-cell formation

        Homotypic cell-in-cell (CIC) structures forming between cancer cells were proposed to promote tumor evolution via entosis, a nonapoptotic cell death process. However, the mechanisms underlying their formation remained poorly understood. We performed a microarray analysis to identify genes associated with homotypic CIC formation. Cancer cells differing in their ability to form homotypic CIC structures were selected for the study. Association analysis identified 73 probe sets for 62 candidate genes potentially involved in CIC formation. Among them, twenty-one genes were downregulated while 41 genes were upregulated. Pathway analysis identified a gene interaction network centered on IL-8, which was upregulated in high CIC cells. Remarkably, CIC formation was significantly inhibited by IL-8 knockdown and enhanced upon recombinant IL-8 treatment, which correlated with altered cell-cell adhesion and expression of adhesive molecules such as P-cadherin and γ-catenin. Together, our work identified IL-8 as a positive regulator of homotypic CIC formation via enhancing intercellular adhesion. [BMB Reports 2018; 51(8): 412-417]

      • Study on Manufacturers’ Innovation Incentive Based on Price Commitment under Products Competition

        Under the situation of highly competition among downstream manufacturers, this research establishes two game models composed of one supplier and two manufacturers under the circumstance of price flexibility strategy and price commitment strategy offered by the supplier separately. The equilibrium and optimal expected profits of all supply chain members are obtained by using backward induction. Meanwhile, this research analyses the impact of price commitment strategy on the creativity of innovative manufacturers, profits of supply chain members and expected profits of whole supply chains by comparing the equilibrium and optimal expected profits under two different strategies. On the basis of preview study, a revenue sharing strategy is designed, and it is verified that the compensation strategy can guarantee the supply chain members to achieve a win-win situation.

        ZnFe2O4/Graphite Composite with High Performance as Anode Material for Lithium-Ion Batteries

        ZnFe 2 O 4 /graphite composite was synthesized by a thermal decomposition method using expanded graphite as matrix. TheZnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles with the size of 20–30 nm were embedded into the interlayers of graphite. The porous structureformed by the graphite sheets can not only alleviate the adverse eff ects caused by the volume change of the ZnFe 2 O 4 duringcycling, but also improve the lithium storage performance. The specifi c capacity of 1450 mAh g − 1 is achieved after150 charge/discharge cycles at 0.1 A g − 1 . Moreover, the composite still delivers the specifi c capacity of 229 mAh g − 1 atthe ultrahigh current density of 10 A g − 1 after 1800 cycles, showing outstanding electrochemical performance and excellentcycling stability. The composite has great potential for use in the high-power lithium-ion batteries.

      • Research on the Innovation Incentive of Manufacturers based on Price Commitment: Heterogeneous Product Perspective

        This paper considers two kinds of heterogeneous products and establishes the supplier’s and the manufacturer's dynamic game models under flexible price strategy and price commitment strategy respectively. The equilibrium solution and the optimal expected profits of supply chain members are obtained by using backward induction. By comparing the equilibrium solution under two different strategies, the impact of price commitment strategy provided by the manufacturer on the innovation, order quantity, and the wholesale price of the supplier is analyzed, and the impact of transmuting degrees of products and efficiency of innovation on price strategy is analyzed. Meanwhile, by comparing the supply chain members’ optimal expected profits under two different strategies, the impact of price commitment strategy provided by the manufacturer on the profits of manufacturer, supplier and the whole supply chain is analyzed. On this basis, a risk compensation strategy is designed, and it is verified that the compensation strategy can guarantee the supply chain members to achieve a win-win situation.
