Sine oculis homeobox homolog 3 (Six3) gene is responsible for normal mammalian pituitary development, and its genetic variations or deficiency will cause hypopituitarism, suggesting that this gene is a potential candidate gene for studying association with growth traits in animals. Herein, genetic variants within bovine Six3 gene was screened in 1031 individuals from four Chinese indigenous cattle breeds. Two novel polymorphisms (NC_007309:g.2515G>A and NC_007309:g.2607T>C) locating at positions nt1707 and nt1799 of intron 1 in bovine Six3gene, were found, and could be genotyped by TaqI ACRS PCR-RFLP and Alw26I PCR-RFLP, respectively. The frequencies of allele “A” of TaqI locus varied from 0.004 to 0.309,as well as the frequencies of allele “C” of Alw26I locus waved from 0.025 to 0.340. Association analysis revealed no significant association of TaqI locus with growth traits in Nanyang breed. However, significant relationships between Alw26I locus and body weight (BW) and average daily gain (ADG) in Nanyang breed was found (p<0.05). The individuals with genotype TC had greater body weight and average daily gain than those with genotype TT at 18 months old. Furthermore, based on combinated genotypes from these two loci, diplotypes was found to be associated with growth traits (p<0.05).The individuals with dihaplotype GG-TC had greater body weight and average daily gain at 18 month-old than those of other dihaplotypes. Therefore, the TaqI and Alw26I genetic variants of bovine Six3 gene were recommended as DNA markers related to growth traits through marker-assisted selection for genetics and breeding in cattle.

In order to investigate the effect of Gamichungsimyeonja-tang on obesity-induced rats, after Gamichungsimyeonja-tang were administered by mouth, and then body-weight, serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, Obese mRNA and TNF-α mRNA were measured. The reselts were as follows 1. The body-weight was decresed with the statistical significance in the Gamichungsimyeonja-tang group as compared with the control group. 2. The quantitation of serum triglyceride was decresed with the statistical significance in the Gamichungsimyeonja-tang group as compared with the control group. 3. The total cholesterol was decreased with the statistical significance in the Gamichungsimyeonja-tang group as compared with the control group. 4. The manifestation of Obese mRNA in retroperitoneal, mesenteric and skeletal muscle tissues were inhibited in Gamichungsimyeonja-tang group. 5. The manifestation of TNF-α mRNA in epidymal, retroperitoneal, mesenteric and skeletal muscle tissues were inhibited in Gamichungsimyeonja-tang group. 6. Gamichungsimyeonja-tang is assumed by alcohol kind that have NMR interpretation result double bond. According to the above results, Gamichungsimyeonja-tang was recognized to be helpful for the treatment of obesity.

A new species of Alternaria causing leaf spots on the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) in Yunnan, China, was isolated, examined, and illustrated. Morphologically, it belongs to the section Porri of Alternaria, which produces relatively large conidia and a simple or branched, filamentous long beak. It is, however, characterized by conidiophores gradually enlarging near the apex into a clavate conidiogenous cell and long ellipsoid to obclavate, smoothwalled conidia with a long filamentous beak. Molecular phylogenetic analyses based on ITS rDNA, GAPDH, and TEF1-alpha sequences demonstrate that the phytopathogen falls in the clade of the section Porri, being most closely related to A. sidae, A. sennae, A. deseriticola, A. cyamopsidis, A. rostellata, A. nitrimali, A. crassa, and A. thunbergiae.

Lonicera caerulea L. var. edulis Turcz et Herd. with great nutrient and commercial edible value, is a kind of wild berry resource in regions of Changbai Moutains, China. Systematic cultivation technology for its large-scale production is developed and formation of cultivated land with area of 150 hectares is established. With high-yield technology, the production yield can be increased by twice. Systematic cultivation technology and establishment of technology demonstration garden lay the foundation for construction of production base and large-scale production of Lonicera caerulea L. var. edulis Turcz et Herd.
Combined effects of three novel SNPs within goat LHX3 gene on milk performance

In this study, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of LHX3 gene were detected by DNA sequencing based on DNA pools and PCR-RFLP method in 792 goats belonging to three Chinese indigenous breeds (Guanzhong dairy, Xinong Sannen dairy, Inner Mongolia white cashmere). The results revealed three novel mutations (AY923832:g.7778A>T; g.8035T>C;g.10592C>T), which were named as P2-DraI, P3-HinfI and P4-MspI loci, respectively. The linkage disequilibrium analysis demonstrated P3-HinfI and P4-MspI loci were strongly linked (r^2>0.33) in all the analyzed populations. Each SNP produced no significant (p>0.05) effects on milk performance. However,the two-loci and three–loci combined genotypes had more profound impacts on milk yield than in separation. The individuals with diplotype AATT (P2-DraI/P3-HinfI) showed significantly (p<0.05) higher milk yield than those with diplotypes ATTT, TTTT, ATTC, and AACC. Diplotype TTCCTT (P2-DraI/P3-HinfI/P4-MspI) carriers had significantly (p<0.05) higher milk yield than those with diplotypes ATTTCC and AACCTC. These combined effects of LHX3 gene polymorphisms indicated that this gene had significant effect on milk performance and its corresponding combined diplotypes could be regarded as potential genetic markers of milk performance.
