On the Syntactic Status of Cognate Objects

The syntactic status of cognate objects (COs) has attracted a lot of attention among researchers in the literature. As a first approximation, Jones (1988) and Moltmann (1989) advocate the adjunct analysis of COs, in which COs are regarded as an adjunct. On the contrary, Massam (1990) and Macfarland (1995) support the argument analysis of COs, in which COs are considered as an argument. At last, Kim & Lim (2012) favor the mixture of COs" properties. That is to say, COs exhibit both adjunct and argument properties in their analysis. In fact, both the adjunct and argument analysis are judged to be flawed because they restrict COs" properties to only one category. In addition, although the last analysis captures both the adjunct and argument characteristics of COs, it is still defective in that it fails to consider the vital role of COs" modification. Accordingly, I put forward my own proposal with the aim of capturing the exact status of COs. Specifically, I delve into COs" status on the basis of my distinction between the Cos with unaccusatives and those with unergatives.
Effect of branched alumina on thermal conductivity of epoxy resin

Composites prepared by using epoxy resin (EP) as matrix had limited practical applications owing to theirpoor thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity of composites can be enhanced by doping inorganicfillers. However, it could not be significantly enhanced owing to the saturation of inorganic fillers. In thisstudy, we prepared branched alumina (b-Al2O3) by using high-temperature sintering and doped it as afiller to obtain b-Al2O3/EP composites. The results shown that the thermal conductivity of the EP compositeswith 70 wt% b-Al2O3 was 1.13 Wm1K1, which was seven times higher than that of pure EP. Thiscould be attributed to the overlapping of b-Al2O3 for the formation of a continuous mesh structure thatresults in thermal conduction channels inside the EP, which reduced the interfacial thermal resistanceand improved the thermal conductivity of the composite. The resistivity of b-Al2O3/EP was 9.64 1014Xm and that of pure EP was 2.08 1014 Xm. The dielectric constant of the b-Al2O3/EP compositesincreased with the increase in b-Al2O3 content, while the dielectric loss factor decreases. This was significantfor the application of EP composites in the field of electrical insulation.

To study the quality changes of blunt-snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala) stored at chilled temperature (0-9oC), a global stability index (GSI) method was developed. Sensory score, total aerobic counts (TAC),total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), and K value (as a percentage of the ratio between HxR (hypoxanthine riboside)+Hx (hypoxanthine) to the total ATP (adenosine triphosphate) and its degradation products) were determined to form a GSI value, and a predictive model of GSI was established by combining zero order kinetics with the Arrhenius equation. The results showed that the goodness of fit remained a high level (R2>0.97), the activation energy (EA) and the corresponding pre-exponential factor (k0) were 83.49 kJ/mol and 4.78×1014 respectively. Relative errors between experimental GSI values and predicted GSI values were all within ±15% before the 15th day. Therefore,the model could effectively predict the quality deterioration of blunt-snout bream during chilled storage.
An ultra-high pressure sensor based on SOI piezoresistive material

This paper describes an ultra-high pressure sensor which is in urgent need and widely used in defense industry and petroleum industry. It is designed on the combination of micro Silicon on Insulator (SOI) solid piezoresistive chip based on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technique and cylindrical elastic body that could successfully convert dynamic ultra-high pressure measurement in explosion to strain measurement. Performances of the sensor including size, sensitivity, and linearity are investigated with experiment data. It’s proved that the dynamic ultra-high sensor in the range of 2GPa in this paper is successful in pressure measurement in explosion. The research of ultra-high pressure sensor in this paper could not only provide a reference for the improvement of explosive property, but also lay a foundation for research of pressure sensor in the range of 10GPa of the next step.
A Dynamic Interactive Pooling Based Human-Computer Interaction

Human-computer interaction (HCI) has great potential for applications in many fields. A HCI method has been developed based on audio-visual perceptive features and dynamic interactive pooling. A mode analysis based fusion strategy is proposed to fuse the interactive responses from audio-visual modalities especially for the case there are deviations from the modalities at the same time. The developed approach can be applied with a better performance even in single modal with multiple interactive users in the scenario. The users in the scenario are endowed with a fair chance to perform HCI by their interactive priorities no matter how many modalities used, and the interactive authority and priority are updated dynamically according to the variation of HCI content. The scenario and multiple users altogether are regarded as a dynamic HCI pooling. The diversity of interactive habits among multiple users is considered in an ordinary hardware from a crowded scene without any hypothesis for the scenario contents in advance. The pooling is updated dynamically to meet the user demands with the most intentions preferentially. Comparative study with state-of-the-arts has indicated the superior performance of the proposed method.
ACCESS CONTROL RESEARCH FOR COOPERATION IN WEB-BASED KNOWLEDGE-SHARING SYSTEM

This paper introduces access control which traditionally researched in the field of information security into the area of collaborative system. We build an application-oriented access control mechanism and use it to analyze the fundamentality of access control to cooperation in a web-based knowledge-sharing system. The mechanism is simple but clear and verified by projects. We also hope readers can take advantage of the design of our access control mechanism and knowledge-sharing system which is common part of collaboration suites. Finally we find access control does contribute and help members to cooperate better in the system.
VHDL Implementation of Current Commutation logic for Matrix Converter

The current commutation is a very practical and important issue for safe operation of matrix converter. In this paper, a general solution for the matrix converter current commutation process is given. VHDL is used to program the CPLD devices to implement the logic process. The Altera device has been used and the code is compiled and synthesized by Quartus software. The simulation and experiment results show the validity of the VHDL realization.

Myo-inositol supplementation may reduce insulin resistance (IR) with few serious side effects in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). To explore the mechanism of this action in an animal model, a PCOS-IR rat model was generated. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to assess changes in ovulation function during treatment with a myo-inositol supplement, and Western blotting, real-time polymerase chain reaction, and immunohistochemistry were performed to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms. The results showed that the myo-inositol supplement decreased the homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) index and significantly decreased the serum levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), LH/follicle-stimulating hormone ratio, and testosterone, while increasing the serum level of estradiol. Upregulation of interleukin 6 (IL-6), phospho-STAT3 (p-STAT3), Mir-21, and Mir-155 and significant downregulation of PPAR-γ and GLUT4 were detected in the untreated PCOS-IR rat model. However, downregulation of IL-6, p-STAT3, miR-21, and miR-155 and significant upregulation of PPAR-γ and GLUT4 were detected with myo-inositol supplementation. Thus, myo-inositol supplementation may reduce Mir-21 and Mir-155 levels by downregulating IL-6 and p-STAT3 and, subsequently, reverse the expression of PPAR-γ and GLUT4, leading to a decreased HOMA-IR index. In conclusion, the identification of an IL-6/p-STAT3/Mir-155/Mir-21/PPAR-γ/GLUT4 system in the PCOS-IR rat model provides insight into the pathogenesis of PCOS and may indicate a possible therapeutic strategy. Amelioration of the basal serum glucose levels and of the HOMA/HOMA-IR index may be achieved by the reversal of the expression of PPAR-γ and GLUT4 through the downregulation of IL-6, p-STAT3, miR-21, and miR-155 with myo-inositol supplementation.
