        한국어교재의 지시용언 분석

        채숙희(Sookhee Chae) 한국중원언어학회 2020 언어학연구 Vol.0 No.55

The goal of this research is to show various aspects and characteristics of deictic verbs used in Korean language education textbooks. In order to accomplish this goal, this paper examined how deictic verbs were suggested as new vocabulary, as target grammatical items, and in texts like reading materials and listening scripts. Data sources were from five series of Korean textbooks which are widely used in well-known Korean language education institutes. The findings of data analysis showed that deictic verbs have not been-suggested as target grammatical items unlike other reference items. Rather, they have been suggested as limited conjugational forms only with simple translations in new vocabulary section. The deictic verbs in the texts showed lower frequency than those in Korean native speakers" corpus, while the deictic adjectives showed higher frequency. Most of their usages were context reference usages, and conceptual usages were hardly found. Most of context reference usages were associated with anaphora, mainly a reference outside the given sentence. Some deictic verb forms were not found in the texts. This paper also discusses implications for the textbook adjustment.

영어 독해과제와 영어 독해전략 선택간의 관련성 조사

        김성중(Seung-Jung Kim) 한국중원언어학회 2011 언어학연구 Vol.0 No.21

L2 professionals argue that the use of reading strategies is an important factor in achieving reading fluency. Cognitivists in L2 education claim that the inventory of L2 reading strategies is useful for students to understand and utilize diverse reading strategies. However, sociolinguists reject the claim by arguing that because the choice of strategies will be influenced by characteristics of reading tasks, the inventory is not helpful unless it explains reading tasks. With this background, this study (n =10) was intended to explore the relationship between the choice of L2 reading strategies and reading tasks. For data collection, three methods―a survey with a questionnaire, reading tasks, and oral interviews―were employed. The questionnaire assessed the degrees of the participants’ use of reading strategies. The reading tasks were designed to stimulate the participants to use certain strategies dependent on their perceptions of L2 reading goals. Finally, the interviews aimed to clarify what reading strategies each participant utilized during the tasks. According to the data analysis, it seemed likely that most of the participants chose to use certain strategies according to their perceptions of L2 reading goals. At the end of this study, some suggestions for L2 reading instruction were made.

영어 모국어 화자와 중국어 모국어 화자의 한국어 이야기 주제어 학습: 언어 유형별 생략 현상 대조와 응집성

        김지은(Jieun Kim) 한국중원언어학회 2021 언어학연구 Vol.- No.59

This study investigates how Chinese- and English-speaking learners of Korean as a foreign language ellipt a topic and maintain cohesion of a narrative text accordingly. It is known to have characteristics that Chinese and English are typologically different in terms of prominence of a topic vs. a subject (Li & Thompson, 1976). It has been reported that a topic is ellipted in a topic-prominent language in referring to old information, unlike in subject-oriented languages which typically disallow a null component in a sentence. The present study tests whether it is a typological difference or a topic-comment universality that is related to foreign language acquisition. A total of 36 subjects in their twenties in Seoul, Korea, including the two experimental groups and Korean native speakers as a control group, participated in this study. Spoken narratives were collected in a task of describing The Pear Story (Chafe, 1976). The results showed that Chinese and Korean native speakers used ellipsis more frequently than English native speakers. It is concluded that typology-specific first language properties play a role in foreign language learning.

Research on Language Teacher and Its New Perspectives

        Hyung-Mi Joo 한국중원언어학회 2012 언어학연구 Vol.0 No.24

Research on language teaching has changed dramatically over the past 40 years. Since the 1980s, research on language teaching has begun to recognize that teachers, apart from the method or materials they may use, are central to understanding and improving language teaching. The purpose of this paper is to explore how research on language teachers has developed to date, thereby fundamentally introducing the new research direction of language teachers. First I thematically summarized research on language teachers and mentioned the limitations of the research. I concluded that teachers’ beliefs are a research area that deserves to be continually explored; however, the area needs a new research perspective that should be better suited to explaining the complexities of teachers’ beliefs. I finally discussed new research methodologies consistent with the research perspective shift in human cognition.

        성경에 나타난 비언어적 의사소통 양식

        서장국(Chang-Kook Suh) 한국중원언어학회 2013 언어학연구 Vol.0 No.26

The human communication system relies very heavily on speech, but communication depends not only on speech but also on the many features which accompany the speech act, especially non-verbal communication behaviors. In traditional biblical interpretation, it has been customary to focus attention on lexical semantics, the meaning of words. But we need to consider the accompanying elements for a complete interpretation of the Bible. In this regard, this paper aims to investigate some aspects of non-verbal communication patterns found in the Bible. For this purpose, we will examine related biblical data by dividing them into five areas: kinesics, paralanguage, proxemics, chronemics, and clothing and ornaments. The results of this study will hopefully be able to serve a useful role in biblical interpretation as well as in general human communication.
