        The rs196952262 Polymorphism of the AGPAT5 Gene is Associated with Meat Quality in Berkshire Pigs

        High-quality meat is of great economic importance to the pig industry. The 1-acylglycerol-3- phosphate-O-acyltransferase 5 (AGPAT5) enzyme converts lysophosphatidic acid to phosphatidic acid in the mitochondrial membrane. In this study, we found that the porcine AGPAT5 gene was highly expressed in muscle tissue, influencing meat characteristics, and we also identified a non-synonymous single-nucleotide polymorphism (nsSNP) (rs196952262, c.673 A>G) in the gene, associated with a change of isoleucine 225 to valine. The presence of this nsSNP was significantly associated with meat color (lightness), lower cooking loss, and lower carcass temperatures 1, 4, and 12 h after slaughter (items T1, T4, and T12 on the recognized quality scale, respectively), and tended to increase backfat thickness and the waterholding capacity. These results suggest that nsSNP (c.673A>G) of the AGPAT5 gene is a potential genetic marker of high meat quality in pigs.

      • ZnO 투명전도막의 전기적 특성에 미치는 Al₂O₃의 도핑 농도의 효과

        Al doped Zinc Oxide(ZnO:AI) films, which is widely used as a transparent conductor in optoelectronic devices such as solar cell, liquid crystal display, plasma display panel, thermal heater, and other sensors, were prepared by using the capacitively coupled DC magnetron sputtering method. In this paper the effect of doping amounts of Al₂0₃ on the electrical, optical and morphological properties were investigated experimentally. The results show that the structural and electrical properties of the film are highly affected by the doping. The optimum growth conditions were obtained for films doped with 2 wt% of indium which exhibit a resistivity of 8.5×10^(-4)Ω-cm associated with a transmittance of 91.7 % for 840 nm in film thickness in the wavelength range of the visible spectrum.

        의미 치매 1예 : 신경심리 및 뇌영상 검사의 연속적인 추적 관찰 소견 Serial Follow-up Study of Neuropsychological and Neuroimaging Findings

        Semantic dementia (SD) is a very rare, distinct form of dementia which is characterized by impairment of naming and comprehension, prosopagnosia, visual agnosia for objects and relative preservation of other aspects of cognition, such as episodic memory, nonverbal problem-solving and visuospatial functions. A 68-year-old man visited our clinic for progressive speech disturbance since 1997. His main speech problems were word finding difficulty and loss of word meaning for objects. Language assessment demonstrated profound semantic memory loss for words with preserved fluency, corresponding to anomic aphasia. There were marked impairments in verbal and visual memory functions and word fluency tasks, but no grammatical or phonologic errors in speech. Also were remarkable anosognosia and object visual agnosia with preserved visuospatial function and calculation in neuropsychological tests. Serial follow-up study of language test showed more deterioration in comprehension and repetition, consistent with Wernicke's aphasia. Initial brain MR imaging and brain perfusion SPECT showed prominent focal atrophy in the left temporal lobe, and marked hypoperfusion in the left temporal and both frontal areas. Follow-up brain MR imaging and perfusion SPECT revealed more atrophy in both temporal lobes and showed more extensive hypoperfusion areas compared to the previous study.

      • 경북 유학산, 천생산과 성암산 일대의 식물군락유형 분석

        At the area of Yuhak, Cheonsaeng and Seongam mountains in Kyeongbuk, we studied the vegetation patterns with 75 plots on the base of Braun-Blanquet methods from March to October 2002. For the analysis of community patterns with 75 plots we used interspecies Affinity analysis method, DECORANA and TWINSPAN. The investigated area was divided into 17 communities with 177 species, and 20∼100% of treelayer, 10∼95% of shrublayer and 20∼100% of herblayer. By toe method of affinity analysis, it showed a big community with 86 species, but divided into 6 small groups by ordination and classification methods. Although it appeared as one group by the affinity test, the area divided into two groups by classification method at second level with eigenvalue of 0.320 and 0.430. It shows that the area of Yuhak, Cheonsaeng and Seongam mountains have own properties and in the process of succession.

      • Alcaligenes latus의 배양방법에 따른 생분해성 플라스틱의 생산특성

        생장과 동시에 poly(3-hydroxybutyrate, PHB) 를 체내에 축적하고, 값싼 당류인 sucrose를 이용할 수 있는 Alcaligenes latus의 생장과 PHB 생산을 최적화 할 수 있는 배양 조건에 대하여 연구하였다. 균주 생장과 PHB 생산성에 미치는 sucrose의 초기농도의 영향을 5L 발효조를 이용하여 회분식 배양 방법에 의해 조사하였다. PHB생산성은 sucrose농도가 10g/L에서 30g/L로 증가함에 따라 0.11에서 0.36g-PHB/L·h까지 증가하였고, 그 이상의 농도에서는 큰 변화없이 0.36∼0.39g-PHB/L·h에서 일정하게 유지되었다. 균주의 비증식속도는 sucrose 농도 증가함에 따라 증가하여 30g/L에서 최대값 0.44h()을 보였으며, sucrose의 농도가 30g/L을 초과하면 균주의 생장은 기질에 의해 저해 받았다. A. latus를 이용하여 대량으로 PHB를 생산하기 위해 유가식 배양과 반연속 유가식 배양을 수행하였다. 인산염 제한하에서 유가식 배양에 의해 얻은 PHB 생산성은 1.14g-PHB/L·h로, 인산염 제한없는 조건에서 얻은 PHB생산성(2.10g-PHB/L·h)에 비해서 훨씬 작았다. PHB함량은 영양소 제한에 관계없이 55∼60%이었다. 영양소 제한 없이 반연속 유가식 배양법에 의해 PHB생산성을 4.5∼4.8g-PHB/L·h까지 향상시킬 수 있었다. 평균 PHB 함량, 소비된 sucrose당 건조 균체중량 수율 및 PHB 생산 수율은 각각 60%, 0.48 및 0.32이었다. 그러므로, 생장과 동시에 PHB를 축적할 수 있는 A. latus를 이용하여 PHB를 생산할 경우, 반연속 유가식 배양법은 높은 PHB생산성을 얻을 수 있는 유망한 배양법임을 알 수 있다. Optimum conditions for cell growth and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate, PHB) biosynthesis of Alcaligenes latus, which can accumulate PHB simultaneously in associated with cell growth and grows well on a cheap carbon source such as sucrose, were investigated. The effect of initial sucrose concentration, ranged from 10 to 50g/L, on the cell growth and PHB accumulation were studied by a batch culture in a 5L fermentor. PHB productivity was increased from 0.11 to 0.36g-PHB/L·h with increasing sucrose concentration up to 30g/L, and it was fairly constant between concentrations of 30g/L and 50g/L. The maximum specific growth rate, 0.44h(), was obtained at 30g-sucrose/L, and the growth was inhibited at concentrations of sucrose over 30g/L. A. latus was also cultivated to attain high PHB productivity by fed-batch or semicontinuous fed-batch culture techniques. PHB productivity by a fed-batch culture under phosphate limitation(1.14g-PHB/L·h) were smaller than that without nutrient limitation(2.10g-PHB/L·h). but there is no significant difference of PHB content(55∼60%) obtained in both culture. By a semicontinuous fed-batch culture without nutrient limitation, high PHB productivity could be obtained as 4.5∼4.8g-PHB/L·h. The average PHB content, the yield of dry cell weight, and the yield of per consumed sucrose were 60%, 0.48, and 0.32, respectively. These results suggest that the semicontinuous fed-batch culture technique is one of promising methods to achieve high PHB productivity by A. latus.

      • 두경부 종양세포주에 대한 Mithramycin A의 세포자멸사 유도성 및Cisplatin 항암작용 증가효과

        Background and Objectives : Cisplatin (CP) is a major chemotherapeutic agent for head and neck cancer. However, cancer cells can get drug resistance through recovering the DNA damage by CP. Mithramycin A (MA) can inhibit gene expression of multidrug resistance gene 1, c-myc or h-ras. The goal of this study is to evaluate the therapeutic effect of MA alone and combination of MA and CP on head and neck cancer cell lines. Materials and Methods : Two head and neck cancer cell lines (AMC-HN4, AMC-HN7) were treated with MA. The cellular proliferation, apoptosis and protein expression were measured with XTT assay, FACS analysis, and western blotting, respectively after MA treatment in cell lines. In order to know the combination effect of MA with CP, the cancer cell lines were treated with MA, CP, and MA/CP combination, and cellular proliferation, apoptosis and expression of apoptosis-associated proteins were measured. Results : MA inhibited the proliferation of head and neck cancer cells and induce dapoptosis. Increase of caspase activation, PLC-?1 fragmentation and percent apoptosis by MA treatment was blocked by z-VAD-fms, but not blocked by N-Acetyl Cystein. Combination of MA and CP significantly inhibited cancer cell growth and increased apoptosis compared to MA and CP alone, and it also suppressed the expression of anti-apoptotic proteins such as XIAP and Mcl-1. Conclusions : The present study suggests that MA alone andMA/CP combination chemotherapy could be a potential regiment for the control of the head and neck cancer.

      • 내시경적 점막절제술로 치험한 식도 과립상 세포종 1례

        과립상 세포종은 Schwann 세포 기원으로 생각되며 인체에 비교적 드물게 발생한다. 과립상 세포종은 전신 어느 곳에서나 발견될 수 있으나 주로 혀, 구강, 피부 혹은 유방 등에서 호발하며 드물게 위장관에서 발견된다. 위장관에서는 식도에서 가장 호발하며 다음으로 위, 대장 순이다. 과립상 세포종은 대부분, 특히 위장관에서는 양성이며 소수의 악성 병변이 보고되었다. 이러한 이유와 함께 수술 전의 진단이 어렵기 때문에 과립상 세포종에 대한 근본적인 치료는 현재까지 외과적 절제술이다. 최근에 시도되는 치료방법들로는 내시경적 레이저 치료, 용종절제술, 내시경적 점막 절제술 등이 있다. 저자들은 상부 소화관 내시경검사를 시행하여 식도 과립상 세포종을 진단하고 내시경적 점막 절제술을 시행하여 합병증 없이 퇴원하여 현재 재발없이 경과 관찰중인 1례를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다. Granular cell tumors, which occur infrequently, are probably of Schwann cell origin. They can occur almost anywhere in the body but usually affect the tongue, oral cavity, skin, or breasts and are rarely found in the gastrointestinal tracts. The esophagus is the most frequent gastrointestinal site, followed by the stomach and the colon. Granular cell tumors are generally benign, especially in the gastrointestinal tract, some malignant lesions have been reported. For this reason, and also because preoperative diagnosis is difficult, the standard treatment for granular cell tumor has until now been surgical excision. In recent years, other therapeutic methods is endoscopic laser therapy (ELT), polypectiomy, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). We report a case of esophageal granular cell tumor which was diagnosed by an endoscopy and managed using an endoscopic mucosal resection without complication.

      • 경북 천생산, 유학산, 숲데미산지역의 식물군락유형

        From April to October 2001, we studied on vegetation of 60 plots through the methods of Braun-Blanquet at Cheonsaengsan, Yuhaksan and Supdemisan in Gyeongbuk. Through the methods of interspecific affinity analysis, DECORANA and TWINSPAN the patterns of plant communities of 60 were analysed. It showed 6 communities at Cheonsaengsan, 5 communities at Yuhaksan, 6 communities at Supdemisan and total appearance of 128 species and covered with 50∼95% of tree layer, 20∼90% of shrub layer, 20∼90% of herb layer. As the result of interspecific affinity analysis it showed one big specific complex composed with 52 species and the 60 plots were divided into 4 groups by classification and ordination. One big species complex as a result of affinity analysis and eigenvalue of 0.303 at first step by classification indicate that Cheonsaengsan, Yuhaksan and Supdemisan are in developing stage of succession.

      • 관상동맥질환에서 Tc-99m Methoxyisobutyl Isonitrile (MIBI) Myocardial SPECT의 이용 : Dipyridamole 심근부하 SPECT와 관상동맥조영술과의 비교 A Comparison between Coronary Angiography and Tc-99m-MIBI Myocardial SPECT

        In order to evaluate clinical utilities of Tc-99m MIBI dipyridamole stress myocardial SPECT in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), we compaired tomographic and polar map images of Tc-99m MIBI myocardial SPECT with the results of coronary angiography in 25 patients with CAD (myocardial infarction 13,angina pectoris 12) in Chungnam National University Hospital from Oct. 1991 to Oct 1993. Percutaneous transcoronary angioplasty (PTCA) was done in three patients of 25 CAD patients and follow up SPECT studies were done in same three patients within 2 months after PTCA. The results were as follows : 1. Mean age of patients was 57.4 years. Man was 2.7 times more than woman. 2. Sensitivity and specificity of Tc-99m MIBI myocardial SPECT for the detection of coronary artery stenosis in patients with myocardial infarction were 92.7 % anf 85 %, respectively. 3. Sensitivity and specificity of Tc-99m MIBI myocardial SPECT for the detection of coronary artery stenosis in patients with angina pectoris were 100 % and 67 %, respectively. 4. After PTCA size of perfusion defects in stress SPELT images was decreased in all three patients . With the results above,we thought that Tc-99m MIBI myocardial SPECT is useful noninvasive method to detect stenosed coronary artery in patients with CAD and it can be used as a method to evaluate the result of PTCA.

      • 횡문근융해증과 급성 신부전 및 범발성 혈관내 응고장애를 동반한 열사병 1예

        Heat stroke is a life-threatening illness characterized by an elevated core body temperature that rises above 40% and central nervous system dysfunctions that results in delirium, convulsions, or coma. Heat stroke is subdivided into two forms, classic and exertional. Since strenuous exercise is one of the major exacerbating and precipitating factors, the incidence of exertional heat stroke is high among young adult, especially military personnel undergoing military training. Exertional heat stroke commonly causes rhabdomyolysis, lactic acidosis, acute renal failure, shock and pulmonary edema. We report a case of heat stroke with rhabdomyolysis, acute renal failure, disseminated intravascular coagulopathy(DIC) after strenuous exercise. A 18 year old man was admitted to the hospital because of loss of consciousness. He was a wrestler and he had tried to lose 6kg in weight by jogging and strenuous exercise on that summer day with hot temperature. The development of this illness was favoured by much clothes inappropriate for that environmental condition with a purpose to enhance sweating, and by restricted intake of water and food. On admission, the blood pressure was 80/50mmHg, and body temperature was 39.4℃ with stuporous mentality. Laboratory finding were as follows : in complete blood cell count, hemoglobin was 16.7g/dL and platelet count was 158,000/ mm³. In blood chemistry, AST 1061U/L, ALT 201U/L, BUN 30mg/dL, Cr 2.2mg/dL, LDH 941IU/L, CK 696IU/L were resulted. In arterial blood gas analysis, pH 7.39, pCO₂ 30mmHg pO₂ 86mmHg, HCO₃ 18.4mEq/L, O₂ saturation 96.7% were resulted. In urinalysis, specific gravity 1.025, protein 3+, erythrocyte 2+ were resulted. In brain imaging study, brain CT finding was normal. After appropriate treatments with rapid cooling, hydration and supportive care, he improved with alert mental status. On 2nd hospital day, in laboratory result, thrombocytopenia and coagulopathy were appeared and renal insufficiency was aggravated. So he was treated with platelet concentrate and fresh frosen plasma for DIC, and enough hydration for appropriate urine volume preservation. After all, On 22nd hospital day, he fully recovered and discharged. Nowadays, with followed for some duration, he is wellbeing with no complications.
