I have comparative studied insurance system relating to Seamen's Accident Compensation comparing with the Seafarers Act. So, I want to suggest its improvement measures as the solving way of its problems. It is the legal system for the shipowner to compensate the crew under the missing of crew or the losing of personal article. Also, the shipowner must be the insured of seamen in order to perform the seamen's accident compensation entirely, and the insurance by the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperative Act and Korea Shipping Association Act musto be included to this insurance, and thus there is the social securing scope as well as living securing scope in this insurance. With regard to the security of the seamen's accident compensation as indicated in the aboves, the shipowner has secured its effectiveness by all kinds of insurance, making the crew as the insured. If the above-mentioned matters are generalized, the seamen's accident compensation standard is below the accident compensation standard of ground worker, and thus the necessity far improvement of the seamen's accident compensation system is required. Accordingly, as its improvement way is the tentatively named seamen's accident compensation insurance law to be presented as the law-making under the existing industrial accident insurance law in consideration with the speciality of crew. It is thought which there will have to be the legal and systematic procedures.

In this paper, stress corrosion cracking behavior, and stress corrosion cracking behavior under cavitation-erosion of water injection were investigated. Main result obtained were as follows 1) The weight loss of stress corrosion under stress is less susceptive than that of stress corrosion under stress and cavitation environment. 2) Cracking growth rate of stress corrosion under stress and cavitation is faster than that of stress corrosion under stress. 3) Corrosion potential of stress corrosion under stress and cavitation is less noble than that of stress corrosion under stress. And corrosion current density under stress and cavitation is higher than that of stress corrosion under stress.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

The AIMS(Anima1 Infectious Disease Data Management System) was developed to collect and analyze data on animal infectious disease outbreak (62 diseases). When an animal infectious disease is confirmed at a diagnostic laboratory, the disease outbreak is then reported to the regional government through AIMS. After the regional government confirms the number of animals infected or dead, outbreak date and etc, this information is reported to the Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry and the National Veterinary Research & Quarantine Service through AIMS. The AIMS analyzes the outbreak data and reports the outbreak statistics by region, month and year to them. In addition, the AIMS can identify the farm where there was an outbreak of the animal infectious disease. There are four user roles : 1) Administrator, responsible for the overall operation of the system. 2) Inspector, responsible for confirmation of the animal infectious disease outbreak. 3) Pathologist, responsible for input to an animal infectious disease at first. 4) Gallery, only able to read the outbreak statistics. The AIMS has been implemented using the ASP technology and is operated on the web to allow easy access. The data, middle and presentation tier are based on MS-SQL 2000 server, Microsoft transaction server and Internet Explorer, respectively. The database's stored procedure was used to improve the performance. In addition to above software, the dextupload software is used to upload the files. By using the AIMS, a more accurate statistics for the animal infectious disease outbreak is expected.

Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.

Precision Control for Beam Irradiation Dose by Developing a Real-time Dose Monitoring System

We have developed a real-time dose monitoring system for a low-energy ion-beam facility. Before we developed the monitoring system, the system had given a substantial error of ±23% when we irradiated an ion beam with a dose as much as 3.0 × 1016 cm-2 on the Si substrate. Moreover, a low irradiation dose as small as 1013 cm-2 was scarcely able to be controlled because of a too short irradiation time of several seconds, producing a greater dose error. To develop a real-time dose monitoring system, in this work, we employed a current integrator in conjunction with a beam stopper, by which a dose of 3.0 × 1016 cm-2 can be exactly irradiated on the sample with less than ±6% error, which was ensured by the measurements of Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy.

<P>Background: We investigated the therapeutic effectiveness of PEGylated liposomes loaded with angiogenic peptides for treating hindlimb ischemia.Methods: Rats received a femoral artery occlusion. Red blood cells collected from the animals were labeled with technetium-99m. Limb perfusion gamma imaging was performed. PEGylated liposomes loaded with angiogenic peptides were administered intra-arterially. Technetium-99m red blood cell imaging was repeated 1 week later. The animals were sacrificed the next day. The expression of angiogenic proteins was studied. Later, changes in limb perfusion after intra-arterial infusion versus intra-muscular injection were also compared to determine the therapeutic effectiveness of different administration methods.Results: Femoral artery occlusion dramatically reduced ischemic limb perfusion (by an average of 69%, compared to contralateral limb). This was not different among groups (p>0.05). Liposomes loaded with angiogenic peptides significantly improved ischemic limb perfusion, compared to controls (210% of baseline, versus 100% of baseline in control; p<0.05 versus controls). The enhanced ischemic limb perfusion was accompanied by an increased expression of CD 31 (an average of 1.6-fold increase of controls; p<0.05). The liposomes or peptides treatment alone did not affect ischemic perfusion (liposomes alone: 100% of baseline; peptides alone: 120% of baseline; p>0.05 versus controls, respectively) or the angiogenic response (1.1-fold of controls in liposomes alone; 1.0-fold of controls in peptides alone; p>0.05 versus controls, respectively). Intra-muscular injection induced similar liposomal treatment effects on ischemic limb perfusion (230% of baseline) as those by intra-arterial infusion (210% of baseline; p<0.05 versus intra-muscular).Conclusions: PEGylated liposomes loaded with angiogenic peptides improved ischemic limb perfusion and promoted angiogenic responses. Liposomal angiogenic treatment via intra-arterial infusion resulted in an equally effective therapeutic efficacy compared to that of intra-muscular injection. These results show the therapeutic potential of our liposomal strategy for treating peripheral limb ischemia.</P>

<P>Surfactin C, produced by <I>acillus subtilis</I> isolated from Korean soybean paste, was given to Sprague-Dawley rats of both sexes at dose of 500, 1000 or 2000 mg/kg for 28 days. There were no surfactin C-related toxicities in survival, clinical signs, and hematological parameters in the experimental period. The highest dose of surfactin C showed the decrease in body weight gain despite normal food and water consumptions and the increase in relative liver weight. alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels were increased in animals administered with surfactin C of 1000 or 2000 mg/kg. Zonal necrosis of hepatocyte around the hepatic vein was observed after administration of the same doses in a dose-dependent manner. In the present study, the no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) of surfactin C was 500 mg/kg following oral administration in rats.</P>
