        Some Observations of the Influence Factors on the Response of Pile Groups

        A simplified approach for nonlinear analysis of the load-displacement response of pile groups embedded in multilayered soils is presented in this work. A hyperbolic model is used to capture the relationship between unit skin friction and pile-soil relative displacement developed along the pile-soil interface and the stress-displacement relationship developed at the pile end. Considering interactive effect among piles, the parameters related to the hyperbolic model of an individual pile in a group can be computed. As to the analysis of the response of pile groups, a highly effective iterative computer program is developed using the hyperbolic model of an individual pile in a group. The efficiency and accuracy of the present method is verified using a well-documented field test. Furthermore, a parametric study is conducted to capture the influence of pile spacing and number of piles on the load-settlement response of the pile groups connected to a rigid cap. The pile-group settlement ratio and the pile-group resistance ratio are analyzed to assess the interaction effect among individual piles.

        Baihua Village is a typical mountainous village in the southwest part of Lujiang county, Longyang District, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province. Residents there made a living on the land, including growing sugarcane and planting maize, whose annual income was no more than 2000 yuan before 2006. Since then when a research institute has set it as one of the pilot villages for mango growing impetus with sci-tech. For the sake of “One village and One Product”, mango breeding and relevant techniques have been applied to daily work. Within years, the developed model of has been explored: simply “villages are the main carriers facilitated by the specialized cooperative for mango growing, back-up by science and technology. Technical trainings serve as the driving force for the leading growers, meanwhile, sellers work as the bridge link the producing-end and the markets”.

        Hepatoprotective effects of loach (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus) lyophilized powder on dimethylnitrosamine-induced liver fibrosis in rats

        This study investigates the hepatoprotectiveeffects and the potential therapeutic mechanisms of loach(Misgurnus anguillicaudatus) lyophilized powder (MLP)on dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) induced liver fibrosis inrats. After treatment with MLP (50, 100, 200 mg/kg),alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), albumin (Alb), total protein (TP) andhydroxyproline (Hyp) levels were detected, to assess thedestruction of hepatocytes and the extent of liver fibrosis. Matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), hyaluronic acid (HA), Laminin (LN),procollagen type-III (PC-III), collagen type-IV (C-IV), andtransforming growth factor-b1 (TGF-b1) contents in serumwere all tested using ELISA kits. Alpha-smooth muscleactin (a-SMA) and the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) protein contents and distribution wereevaluated using western blot and immunohistochemicalanalysis. MLP significantly decreased the serum concentrationsof ALT, AST, Hyp, HA, LN, PC-III, C-IV, MMP-2,TIMP-1, a-SMA and TGF-b1, while increasing the contentsof Alb and MMP-9. No significant changes on TP serum concentrations were observed. These results suggest thatMLP has anti-hepatic fibrosis effects and its mechanism maybe associated with the attenuation of extracellular matrix(ECM) synthesis, the acceleration of ECM degradation,inhibition of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) activation andTGF-b1 expression.

        Brain atlas fusion from high-thickness diagnostic magnetic resonance images by learning-based super-resolution

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>It is fundamentally important to fuse the brain atlas from magnetic resonance (MR) images for many imaging-based studies. Most existing works focus on fusing the atlases from high-quality MR images. However, for low-quality diagnostic images (i.e., with high inter-slice thickness), the problem of atlas fusion has not been addressed yet. In this paper, we intend to fuse the brain atlas from the high-thickness diagnostic MR images that are prevalent for clinical routines. The main idea of our works is to extend the conventional groupwise registration by incorporating a novel super-resolution strategy. The contribution of the proposed super-resolution framework is two-fold. First, each high-thickness subject image is reconstructed to be isotropic by the patch-based sparsity learning. Then, the reconstructed isotropic image is enhanced for better quality through the random-forest-based regression model. In this way, the images obtained by the super-resolution strategy can be fused together by applying the groupwise registration method to construct the required atlas. Our experiments have shown that the proposed framework can effectively solve the problem of atlas fusion from the low-quality brain MR images.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We fuse the brain atlas from real diagnostic MR images with high inter-slice thickness. </LI> <LI> All images are processed through the two-stage learning-based super-resolution. </LI> <LI> Groupwise registration is applied for unbiased atlas fusion. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Relationship between Physical and Low-stress Mechanical Properties to Fabric Hand of Woollen Fabric with Fusible Interlinings

        Relationships among physical properties, low-stress mechanical properties and hand value of woollen fabric with and without fusible interlinings were examined. Subjective evaluation and objective measurements were analysed statistically. The results reveal that thickness, weight and adhesive density properties of woollen fabric with fusible interlinings impact hand value. Further exploration of adhesive point density, thickness and weight show effect on the lowstressmechanical properties from high to low in order. This study provides new theoretical insights on hand value and lowstress mechanical properties of woollen fabric with interlinings which is predicted by physical properties. It provided a convenient method for choosing request interlining for woollen fabric using for men’s suits.

        Prediction of peak occurrence of Dendrolimus punctatus larvae based on Bayes discriminant method

        To improve the accuracy of forecasting the peak occurrence of Dendrolimus punctatus Walker, we here used the Bayes discriminant analysis to predict this peak occurrence for the first and second generation of Dendrolimus punctatus larvae based on these data from 1983 to 2016 in Qianshan County, Anhui Province. Our present results showed that this discriminant equation for the first generation was as follows: f (1) = 3.2588-6.2700x1 + 1.2870x2 + 0.7920x3 + 0.4152x4; f (2) = 14.5215- 8.5710x1 + 2.9790x2 + 2.0280x3 + 0.5031x4; f (3) = 3.5264; f (4) = 66.8312- 12.5216x1 + 5.1740x2 + 4.7162x3 + 0.6033x4. And that the prediction accuracy for the first generation was 97.22%. Whilst this discriminant equation for the second generation was as follows: f (1) = 3.536-1.192x5 + 1.338x6 + 0.638x70.025x8; f (2) = 7.317-1.337x5 + 4.240x6 + 1.010x70.295x8; f (3) = 16.488- 3.192x5 + 4.955x6 + 1.900x7–0.411x8; f (4) = 34.502- 4.184x5 + 7.484x6 + 2.583x7–0.443x8. The prediction accuracy for the second generation was 85.71%. Overall, our findings revealed that the Bayes discriminant analysis could screen out key factors to significantly improve the prediction accuracy of peak occurrence of Dendrolimus punctatus larvae.

        中日修辞博弈下的“慰安妇”问题

        1930년대에 일본은 대규모의 침략 전쟁을 일으켰다. 이 전쟁에서 일본은 본토 및 다른 점령지역에서 여성들을 강제로 징용해 일본군에게 성적인 서비스를 제공하게 하는 이른바 ‘위안부’ 제도를 세웠다. 그러다가 1945년, 일본이 무조건 항복을 한 후에는 극동군사법정을 포함하는 일련의 군사법정에서 일본 전범들에 대한 재판이 진행되었다. 그러나 재판을 통해 ‘위안부’와 관련된 문제는 근본적으로 해결되지 못했다. 일본과 중국, 한국 등 피해를 입은 국가들은 ‘위안부’ 문제에 대해 국가 지도자를 비롯해 정부관리, 대중매체, 그리고 학자들에 이르기까지 역사 수사의 측면에서 헛되이 시간을 보내며 지루한 게임을 이어왔다. 본 논문에서는‘ 위안부’ 문제에 대한 중일 양국의 전형적인 담화들을 연구의 대상으로 삼아 수사학의 이론과 방법을 운용하여 이 역사적 담화들의 형성과정, 사회적 영향, 전파의 효과 등을 분석하였다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 중일 양국 사이에는‘ 위안부’의 명칭, 성격, 징용의 주체, 징용의 방식 등에서 일정 정도 수사적 공통성이 존재하면서도 커다란 상이성도 존재함을 발견했다. 일본의 일부 인사들은 여전히 ‘위안부’의 합리성을 강조하고 ‘강제연행’의 방식을 부인하며, ‘종군위안부’ 제도의 제정과 시행의 주체가 일본정부와 관련이 있음을 부인한다. 또 ‘종군위안부’ 제도가 합리적이었고 그것이 전시에 일본군의 정신을 진작시키는 데 효과적이었음을 선전하며,‘ 위안부’ 문제와 관련된 고노 담화 등에 의혹을 제기한다. 이러한 것들을 거울삼아 우리는 수사학적 지혜와 전략을 중시하고‘ 위안부’ 문제에서 한중일 3국의 수사적 공통성을 충분히 활용하며, 일부 정치적 이익집단이 멋대로 수사적 논란을 일으키는 것을 없애 최대한도의 ‘수사적 공감’에 이르고 나아가‘ 위안부’ 문제가 원만하게 해결되도록 노력해야 할 것이다. It is well known that Japan had launched an invasive war which aimed at Asian domination in 20th century. During this war, Japan forced a large number of women from Japan and other Asian countries to provide sexual service without these women’s own agreements. Since Japan unconditionally surrendered in 1945, the International trial hadn’t solved the problem of Japanese military sexual slavery. Nowadays the nation’s leaders, governors, mass media and scholars from Japan and China use different words, sentences and paragraphs to express the issue. This paper tries to use rhetorical theory and methodology to analyze the forming process and effect of discourse both in China and Japan on Japanese military sexual slavery regime. This research finds that to some extent there is a rhetorical universality between two countries in the name of “Japanese military sexual slavery”, the nature of the issue, the description of military executor and action, etc., while there are also significant cognitive differences between China and Japan. Some Japanese people consider that Japanese military sexual slavery is reasonable, and they deny the way of “force”, disseminate it as a positive policy to encourage the army during the war-time and even doubt “YoshiNo Talk”. Thus the paper claims that people should take command of rhetorical universality on the issue of Japanese military sexual slavery, avert rhetorical individuality, and solve the issue with rhetorical identification.

        Property Comparison of Woollen Fabrics with Fusible and Printable Interlinings

        Suits produced now are high class with good quality due to advanced manufacturing techniques. Woollen fabrics and interlinings are the major materials for suit manufacture. Using woollen fabric and interlining to produce quality fabric has become an important production process. However traditional fusible interlinings are costly and involve a tedious production process, and they have some drawbacks such as strike through and bubbles. In this study, a printable interlining is proposed which can be used in place of fusible interlining. Screen-printing technique directly prints on the shell fabric and it is named printable interlining which enhances quality and reduces operational cost for garment manufacturers. Fabric quality is generally perceived through fabric hand value. Based on a series of laboratory experiments carried out to investigate total hand value and low-stress mechanical properties, this paper compares the impact of fusible interlining and printable interlining on woollen fabric using the Kawabata Evaluation System. Total hand value and five low-stress mechanical properties, tensile, bending, shearing, surface and compression were obtained. The results prove that printable interlinings can replace fusible interlinings on woollen fabrics and improve the fabric total hand value and bending, shearing and tensile properties. Printable interlining can be widely used in mass suit production with simple control process and it is cost-efficient.

        There are street children all over the world, not only in developing countries but also in developed countries. According to 〈Street Children in Asia〉, there are about 25,000,000-30,000,000 street children in Asia, which is really a big problem. For China, there are about 150,000 street children. As is known to everyone, children are the future of a nation and a people, and what’s more, China is establishing a harmonious society nowadays, so it is considerably significant to resolve this problem well. Many a factor, say, the rupture of the families, improper ways of education and economic poverty and so on, have given rise to the phenomenon of street children. These street children run away from their guardians and keep wandering in the streets. They become the special social vulnerable group, for their basic rights like the living rights and developmental rights cannot be well protected. Street children can be easily physically-victimized and psychologically-victimized. This paper researches into the exhibition, characteristics and causes of street children, and proposes the prevention policies in the end.
