Influenza A virus subtype H7N9 has received great attention since the first human case was reported at the beginning of this year. The viral characteristics have been quickly brought into research process. Here, the effect of temperature and live poultry market has been considered on the basis of analysis of existing data. As expected, both temperature and live poultry market has significant impact on the spread of this epidemic. Finally, the effect of government reactions and medical treatment on response was discussed. It indicated that sufficient and rapid reactions did not always lead to a perfect outcome which proved the influence of temperature and live poultry market potentially. Research highlights: The effect of temperature on H7N9 avian influenza is proved by analyzing the latitude and temperature of affected area. The effect of live poultry markets on H7N9 avian influenza is confirmed by analyzing the relationship between the number of live poultry markets in affected area and incidence of H7N9 human infection. The effect of government actions and medical treatment is studied and it turned out the result is not in accordance with actual efforts.
The Supply Chain Analysis of Hakka Restaurants Industry for Hakka Liutui Regions in Taiwan

Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was applied to weight the 6 major and 18 secondary attributes from the data of interviews. The objectives were to find out the weaknesses of business development of the Liutui Hakka restaurants and food industry via competition analysis of the business supply chain. These findings would be used as references for suggesting a “Blue Ocean Strategy” to the future sustainable operation and an uncontested market of the Hakka restaurants and food industry in the Liutui area. The research showed that the top three priorities of the 6 major attributes were quality, customer service and marketing (equally weighted), and flexibility. The most important secondary attribute under the major attribute quality was product safety and wholesomeness. These findings would be provided to the business holders and governments as bases for making development policies and strategies for future sustainable Hakka restaurants and food industry.

Background: Depressive disorders (DD) affect not only mood and behavior but also various physical functions. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been shown to have some benefits in treating DD. However, one formula or one single herb might be not show high efficacy when used to treat depression. Thus, this study aimed to examine the core prescription pattern of Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) among patients with DD in Taiwan as a reference for related research and clinical applications. Methods: All patients, who had been diagnosed with major depressive disorder or minor depression or dysthymia without any other baseline diseases and had at least one CHM outpatient clinical visit from 2002 to 2011, were extracted from three randomly sampled cohorts, namely the 2000, 2005 and 2010 cohorts of the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) of Taiwan. The collected data was analyzed to explore the patterns of herbal products. Results: There were 197,146 patients with a diagnosis of DD and of these 1806 subjects had only a diagnosis of DD and utilized CHM. The most common formula was Gan-Mai-Da-Zao-Tang (12.19%), while Suan-Zao-Ren (3.99%) was the most commonly prescribed single herb. The core pattern of prescriptions consisted of a combination of Gan-Mai-Da-Zao-Tang, Jia-Wei-Xiao-Yao-San, Chai-Hu-Jia-Long-Gu-Mu-Li-Tang, He-Huan-Pi, Yuan-Zhi and Shi-Chang-Pu. Conclusions: This study describes the CHM core prescription pattern used to treat patients in Taiwan with DD and it is a potential candidate for study in future pharmacological or clinical trials targeting DD.

Applying Information Technology (IT) in practical engineering has become one of the most important issues in the past few decades, especially on internal solitary wave, intelligent robot interaction, artificial intelligence, fuzzy Lyapunov, tension leg platform (TLP), consumer and service quality. Other than affecting the traditional teaching mode or increasing the inter-relation with users, IT can also be connected with the current society by collecting the latest information from the internet. It is apparently a fashion-catching-up technology. Therefore, the learning of how to use IT facilities is becoming one of engineers’ skills nowadays. In addition to studying how well engineers learn to operate IT facilities and apply them into teaching, how engineers’ general capacity of information effects the results of learning IT are also discussed. This research introduces the “Combined TAM and TPB mode,” to understand the situation of engineers using IT facilities.

Miniaturization is the core of modern electronic product. Many of the semiconductor devices used in modern products are becoming smaller and smaller. Conventional defects recognition techniques face a great challenge. Then because of the ability of micro-fabrication at the micrometer or nanometer level the focused ion beam (FIB) technology has become one of the most necessary defects recognition and failure mechanism study tools for semiconductor device in the past several years. The FIB technology is particularly effective for analyzing the root failure cause in semiconductor active area. Sometimes you have an interest in a structure or defect that is buried under the surface of the semiconductor devices. Then you can make a rough cut in the possible locations. This paper describes the FIB technique for defects recognition in semiconductor devices. Several failure mechanisms have been identified, including kirkendall effect, gate oxide layer defect, and dielectric breakdown.

Purpose: To calculate the probability of one person's life-time death caused by a malignant tumor and provide theoretical basis for cancer prevention. Materials and Methods: The probability of one person's death caused by a tumor was calculated by a probability additive formula and based on an abridged life table. All data for age-specific mortality were from the third retrospective investigation of death cause in China. Results: The probability of one person's death caused by malignant tumor was 18.7% calculated by the probability additive formula. On the same way, the life-time death probability caused by lung cancer, gastric cancer, liver cancer, esophageal cancer, colorectal and anal cancer were 4.47%, 3.62%, 3.25%, 2.25%, 1.11%, respectively. Conclusions: Malignant tumor is still the main cause of death in one's life time and the most common causes of cancer death were lung, gastric, liver, esophageal, colorectal and anal cancers. Targeted forms of cancer prevention and treatment strategies should be worked out to improve people's health and prolong life in China. The probability additive formula is a more scientific and objective method to calculate the probability of one person's life-time death than cumulative death probability.

IrrE is a highly conserved global regulator in the Deinococcus genus and contributes to survival from high doses of UV radiation, ionizing radiation, and desiccation. Drad-IrrE and Dgob-IrrE from Deinococcus radiodurans and Deinococcus gobiensis I-0 each share 66% sequence identity. However, Dgob-IrrE showed a stronger protection phenotype against UV radiation than Drad-IrrE in the D. radiodurans irrE-deletion mutant (ΔirrE), which may be due to amino acid residues differences around the DNA-binding HTH domain. Site-directed mutagenesis was used to generate a Drad-IrrE A184S single mutant, which has been characterized and compared with the ΔirrE mutant complemented strain with Drad-irrE, designated ΔirrE-E. The effects of the A184S mutation following UV radiation and mitomycin C (MMC) shock were determined. The A184S mutant displayed significantly increased resistance to UV radiation and MMC shock. The corresponding A184 site in Dgob-IrrE was inversely mutated, generating the S131A mutant, which exhibited a loss of resistance against UV radiation, MMC shock, and desiccation. qPCR analysis revealed that critical genes in the DNA repair system, such as recA, pprA, uvrA, and ddrB, were remarkably induced after UV radiation and MMC shock in the ΔirrE-IE and A184S mutants. These data suggested that A184S improves the ability against UV radiation and MMC shock, providing new insights into the modification of IrrE. We speculated that the serine residue may determine the efficiency of DNA binding, leading to the increased expression of IrrE-dependent genes important for protection against DNA damage.
