      • The Supply Chain Analysis of Hakka Restaurants Industry for Hakka Liutui Regions in Taiwan

        Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was applied to weight the 6 major and 18 secondary attributes from the data of interviews. The objectives were to find out the weaknesses of business development of the Liutui Hakka restaurants and food industry via competition analysis of the business supply chain. These findings would be used as references for suggesting a "Blue Ocean Strategy" to the future sustainable operation and an uncontested market of the Hakka restaurants and food industry in the Liutui area. The research showed that the top three priorities of the 6 major attributes were quality, customer service and marketing (equally weighted), and flexibility. The most important secondary attribute under the major attribute quality was product safety and wholesomeness. These findings would be provided to the business holders and governments as bases for making development policies and strategies for future sustainable Hakka restaurants and food industry.

        This study adopted the concept of supply chain analysis to establish 6 major and 18 secondary attributes for evaluating the Hakka food industry in the area of Liutui (six major clusters of the Hakka villages distributed in Kaohsiung and Pingtung counties, which functioned as 6 allied military forts when encountered with invading enemies), Taiwan, through literature review and on-site interviews of the business owners on the aspects of cost, quality, innovation, customer service, marketing, and flexibility.         Self-management Experience of Middle-aged and Older Adults With Type 2 Diabetes: A Qualitative Study

        Purpose: Diabetes mellitus has been either the fourth or fifth leading cause of death among Taiwanese adults during 1995e2015. Older adults with diabetes are at higher risk of developing diabetic macrovascular and micro-vascular complications. The purpose of this study explored the self-management experiences of middle-aged and older adults with diabetes through a focus group. Methods: Purposive sampling was used to recruit patients with diabetes from the metabolic outpatient clinics of medical centers and regional hospitals in Taiwan. Two focus groups, comprising a total of 23 participants, were employed to collect data, and group discussions were held a total of four times in an education room that was distant from clinical areas. Results: Three themes were generated from analysis of the collected data: (1) “listening to the voice of the body and observing physical changes,” (2) “re-recognizing diabetes and challenges,” and (3) “selfmanagement implementation dilemmas.” This study provided new insights into the experiences of middle-aged and older adults in Taiwan regarding their self-management of diabetes. Conclusion: Healthcare teams should be involved in the self-management education of patients with diabetes as early as possible to reduce patients’ anxiety and to develop more patient-centered, culturesensitive clinical skills. In addition to monitoring patients’ self-management, healthcare professor should pay more attention to patients’ successful adaptation to and coexistence with the disease.

        Performance of cold-formed steel wall frames under compression

        This study presents the strength of braced and unbraced cold-formed steel wall frames consisting of several wall studs acting as columns, top and bottom tracks, and bracing members. The strength and the buckling mode of steel wall frames were found to be different due to the change of bracing type. In addition, the spacing of wall studs is a crucial factor to the strength of steel wall frames. The comparisons were made between the test results and the predictions computed based on AISI Code. The related specifications do not clearly provides the effective length factors for the member of cold-formed steel frame under compression. This paper proposes effective length factors for the steel wall frames based on the test results. A theoretical model is also derived to obtain the modulus of elastic support provided by the bracing at mid-height of steel wall frames in this research.

        Viability and Functions of Alginate-microencapsulated Islets Isolated from Neonatal Pigs

        Patients with Type I diabetes mellitus have been treated with porcine insulin for several decades and pigs have recently been deemed an ideal source of microencapsulated islet cells for clinical xenotransplantation. In this study, neonatal pigs were anesthetized and sacrificed prior to a pancreatectomy. Islet cells were isolated from pancreas via collagenase digestion. Islet cells were separated and collected by hand under microscopic guidance. These cells were suspended in 1.4% sodium alginate solution and encapsulated by dropping them into 1.1% calcium chloride solution and in which the round gel in size was 250-400 ${\mu}m$ in diameter. Viability of the microencapsulated islet cells cultured in medium at $37^{\circ}C$ was assessed by MTT assay. Furthermore, insulin released in response to glucose challenge was investigated using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Secretion of insulin was low in response to the basal glucose solution (4.4 mM) in medium and was significantly higher in response to the high glucose solution (16.7 mM). The viability of microencapsulated islet cells did not differ significantly over a period of 7 days; that is, the increasing pattern of insulin concentration in the culture medium after glucose stimulation interval day was similar throughout the 7 days cultivation. In summary, experimental evidences indicated that the effects of alginate-microencapsulation prolonged survival of the neonatal porcine islets in vitro cultures and the insulin response to glucose of the islets was maintained.

        Numerical Evaluation on Warping Constants of General cold-Formed Steel Open Sections

        The calculation of warping constant (Cw) for an open thin-walled open section is a tedious and dificult task and thuspresenting an obstacle to routine design. Although Cw formulas and values for selective cold-formed steel sections are availablein the AISI design manuals, most practicing engineers have limited idea of evaluating the warping constants for sections notlisted in the AISI design manuals. This paper proposes a detailed step-by-step numerical procedure for evaluating the warpingconstant of a general open thin-waled section. Comparison shows virtualy no diference between the calculated values andthose listed in the AISI design manuals. The proposed procedure is a reliable and useful tool for computing the warping

        The Compressive Strength of Slender C-shaped Cold-formed Steel Members with Web Openings

        This study investigated the compressive strength of slender C-shaped cold-formed steel members with web openings. The effective sectional area concept was adopted to conduct the analysis of cold-formed compressive members. The load-carrying capacity of compression member was calculated based on the sectional effective width as described in the AISI Standard. The study tested a total of 21 channel specimens including C-shaped cross-sections with and without web openings. Comparisons were made between the test results and the predictions based on both the AISI Standard and the ANSYS analysis. The results indicated that all the observed failure modes were of the flexural-torsional buckling classification. It was found that the reduction in the compression strength of the specimens with web openings seems to be negligible. In addition, the predictions based on the AISI Standard were conservative as compared with the test results of the specimens with web openings. Moreover, it appeared that the ANSYS finite element analysis was able to predict the ultimate loads and failure modes of the specimens. In the absence of test data and for the purpose of preliminary design, the ANSYS appears to provide quite an encouraging prediction capability.       • Preliminary Study of the Liouduei Area Hakka Industry and Cultural Tourism Using Analytic Hierarchy Process Method

        Taiwan is an island of diverse ethnicities and each ethnic group has maintained its unique traditional industry and culture. The saying "Tung Flower in the North and Liouduei in the South" is commonly used to describe the Hakka communities in Taiwan. "Liouduei" is not an administrative district that could be found on the map. The term refers to the Kaohsiung and Pingtung Hakka settlement in Southern Taiwan. In recent years the Council for Hakka Affairs of the Executive Yuan and the local government has made significant efforts to cultivate and support local culture and industry development. They actively marketed the Hakka cultural industry internationally and connected the local Hakka industry with cultural tourism hoping to raise public awareness of Hakka culture and establish a sustainable Hakka industry in a long run. In this study key evaluation criteria and literature were collected and reviewed. And there were 5 evaluation component fields 16 evaluation criterion items drawn-up. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was applied to conduct the criteria evaluation analysis of the Liouduei area Hakka Industry and cultural tourism with the target groups including the municipal Hakka administrative agencies social organizations Hakka Industry Business and experts and scholars. The findings were summarized into a cohesive conclusion and the results of the analysis were provided for government agencies as future references for their work on the preservation of Hakka cultural tourism and promotion of Hakka industry. Overall the study suggested that the interviewees ranked "Product Quality Assurance"(0.303) as the most critical factor and ranked the "The Maintenance of Industry and Cultural "(0.299) as the second factor and "Government Subsidies and Promotion"(0.232) as the third factor and followed by "Economic Efficiency Improvement"(0.085) ranked as the fourth factor. Finally it ranked the "Hakka Industry Business Alliance" (0.081) as the fifth factor.
