This is a clinical analysis of 24 cases of parotid gland tumor who were treated in the department of Surgery, Chonnam National University Medical School during the past lOyears from January, 1976 to December, 1985. According to this analysis of total 24 cases, we concluded as follows ; 1) 21 cases were benign tumors and 3 cases were malignant tumors. As the histo-pathological findings, benign tumor included 88% and malignant tumor 12%. Majority of benign tumor contained mixed tumor(86.7%), and the malignant tumor contained mucoepidermoid carcinoma (66.7%). 2) The peak age incidence was 40th in benign tumor and 50th in malignant tumor. 3) The chief complaints of patient was a painless mass and the duration of illness was average 5.2 years. 4) The mean size of mass was 4.5cm in diameter. 5) The surgical procedures were performed with excision 6 cases, superficial lobectomy 8 cases, wide excisi。n with partial parotidectomy 4 cases, total parotidectomy 3 cases in benign tumors. In malignant tumors, total parotidectomy 2 cases and wide excision with partial parotidectomy lease were performed. 6) Major post。perative complications such as facial nerve palsy 7 cases (temporary 5 cases, permanent; 2 cases), Frey syndrome 1 case, seroma 1 case, hematoma lcase, and wound infection 1 case were developed. The recurrence contained pleomorphic adenoma 1 case and mucoepidermoid carcinoma 1 case.

Purpose: Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), unlike invasive ductal carcinoma, does not require sentinel lymph node biopsy or axillary lymph node dissection because the possibility of axillary lymph node metastasis is low. However, occasionally, despite preoperative diagnosis of DCIS, invasive ductal carcinoma can be diagnosed by postoperative biopsy. Therefore, a study of the associated risk factors is necessary. Methods: 198 patients with an initial diagnosis of DCIS, treated between February 2005 and December 2009, were retrospectively analyzed. Associations between clinical and pathologic factors were analyzed for significance using univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: Of the 198 patients, 57 (28.8%) were found to have invasive disease on final pathology. Multivariate analysis revealed 4 independent predictors of invasive cancer upon final pathology: diagnosis by needle biopsy (OR, 3.165; P=0.008), positive p53 on preoperative biopsy (OR, 2.494; P=0.019) DCIS size (>2 ㎝) on microscopic finding (OR, 2.683; P=0.014), and relatively young age (OR, 0.958, P=0.046). Of the 13 patients with positive axillary lymph nodes, 11 (84.6%) were shown to have invasive cancer on final pathology (P<0.001). Conclusion: In cases of preoperative diagnosis based on needle biopsy, positive p53, large tumor, and relatively young age, an SLNB procedure can be considered because in almost 30% of the patients an invasive carcinoma is found after surgery.

Purpose: Lymphovascular invasion (LVI) is an important prognostic factor in patients with lymph node-negative patients with invasive breast cancer. However, the prognostic value of LVI it is unclear and controversial about its prognostic value in patients with lymph node-positive breast cancer patients. So, we report the an analysis of the prognostic significance of LVI in a large cohort study of patients with lymph node-positive patients with invasive breast cancer. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 967 patients with invasive breast cancer that had undergone surgical treatment at our hospital, from January 2004 to December 2007. Among these thempatients, 349 patients with lymph node-positive breast cancer patients are were included in this study. We evaluated clinical and pathological data in these patients, we compared with 5-year overall survival and disease-free survival between an LVI-present group and an LVI-absent group. Results: The median follow-up was 48 months (range, 12-78 months), and the mean age of the patients was 48 years (range, 23-78 years). LVI was present in 192 patients (55%) of with tumors and was associated with age ≤40 years (p=0.009), high histologichistological grade (p=0.007), estrogen receptor status (p=0.001), tumor size ≥2 cm (p<0.001), and number of involved lymph nodes (p<0.001), but not with progesterone receptor status, HER2 status, p53 status, or tumor multiplicity. LVI was a significant independent prognostic factor for disease-free survival (p<0.001) and overall survival (p=0.006). By multivariate analysis revealed that LVI (p=0.003), number of involved lymph nodes (≥4; p=0.005), and high histological grade (II and III; p=0.02) was were an independent significant predictors of disease-free survival and overall survival in the whole group of patients. Conclusion: In this case, we demonstrated that LVI is a significant predictor of poor prognosis in patients with lymph node-positive patients with primary invasive breast cancer, LVI is a significant predictive predictor value of poor prognosis. So, LVI should be considered in the therapeutic strategy as a decision making tool in the adjuvant chemotherapy setting.
