Pancreatic fistula is a rare complication which occurs in acute and chronic pancreatitis, or after trau matic or surgical disruption of pancreatic duct. Fistula may drain spontaneously into adjacent hollow viscera, peritoneal and pleural cavities (internal fistula) or communicate with the body surface exter nally (external fistula). We recently experienced a case of pancreatico-gastric fistula after acute phase of chronic pancreatitis without pseudocyst. To our knowledge, this is the first case in Korea. The patient was a 75-year-old man with epigastric and left upper quadrant abdominal pain. Abdomina computerized tomography (CT) and ultrasonography showed enlarged, poorly marginated pancreas with irregular dilated pancreatic duct. Endoscopic examination showed small orifice with marginal whitish mucosa at posterior wall side of gastric antrum. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreato graphy showed irregular dilated duct in tail of pancreas and collection of contrast medium in fundu of stomach. CT guided aspiration and biopsy of pancreas showed fibroadipose tissue infiltrated with chronic inflammatory cells.

Background: Nutrition labels provide various information on the nutrient contents of food. However, despite the recent increase in the interest in dietary intake and expansion of related policies, studies on the association between nutrition label reading and dietary intake are lacking in Korea. Methods: This study analyzed the 2007–2009 KNHANES (Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) data. To examine macronutrients and micronutrients intake according to nutrition label reading, analysis of covariance was used. Multiple logistic regression analysis was also used to examine the association between adherence to dietary reference intake and nutrition label reading. Results: Nutrition label reading was significantly high among women, youth, and those with high education and high household income. Nutrition label reading was associated with higher intake of calcium and vitamin C in men and the lower intake of calorie, carbohydrates and higher energy ratio of protein in women. Additionally, male nutrition label readers were associated with adherence to dietary reference intake of fiber (odds ratio [OR], 2.00; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.23 to 3.26) and calcium (OR, 1.26; 95% CI, 1.03 to 1.54). In women, there were no significant differences in the adherence to the dietary reference intake in fat, fiber, sodium, potassium, and calcium according to the nutrition label reading. Conclusion: In men, nutrition label reading was associated with healthier intake of several micronutrients, although this was not observed in women. Consideration for clearly reporting vulnerable micronutrients in nutrition labels is necessary.

As a subset work for the collection of indigenous prokaryotic species in Korea, 38 actinobacterial strains were isolated from various environmental samples obtained from plant root, ginseng cultivating soil, mud flat, freshwater and seawater. Each strain showed higher 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (>99.1%) and formed a robust phylogenetic clade with closest actinobacterial species which were defined and validated with nomenclature, already. There is no official description on these 38 actinobacterial species in Korea. Consequently, unrecorded 37 species of 24 genera in the 12 families belonging to the order Actinomycetales of the phylum Actinobacteria were found in Korea. Morphological properties, basic biochemical characteristics, isolation source and strain IDs are described in the species descriptions.
