This study demonstrates that low processing rate for producing polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based carbon fiber is a critical to obtain a homogeneous radial microstructure with high resistance to oxidation, thereby resulting in their improved mechanical strength. The dry-jet wet spun PAN organic fibers were processed (e.g., stabilized and then carbonized) utilizing two different rates; one is 1.6 times longer than the other. The effect of processing rate on the microstructural evolutions of carbon fibers was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy after slow etching in air, as well as Raman mapping after graphitization. The rapidly processed fiber exhibited the multilayered radial structure, which is caused by the radial direction stretching of the extrusion in the spinning. In case of the slowly processed fiber, the layered radial structure formed in the spinning process was changed into a more homogeneous radial microstructure. The slowly processed fibers showed higher oxidation resistance, higher mechanical properties, and higher crystallinity than the rapidly processed one. Raman mapping confirmed that the microstructure developed during spinning was sustained even though fiber was thermally treated up to 2800 °C.

본 연구에서는 천연계면활성제 조성물 등을 이용하여 환경친화적이고, 소화성능이 우수한 포 소화약제를 개발하고, 기초물성, 친환경성, 소화성능 평가를 실시하였다. 개발된 소화약제는 국민안전처 기준에 따라 기초물성을 실험하고, 물벼룩과 지렁이 독성으로 친환경성을 평가하였다. 소화성능실험은 자체적으로 개발한 산불진화용 성능시험기를 이용해 실시하였다. 그 결과, 기초물성의 경우변질 전, 후 실험에서 모두 포 소화약제로서 요구되는 물성을 모두 만족하였다. 물벼룩 독성 실험에서는 포 소화약제 48.854mg/L 이하에서 반수유영저해 현상이 발생하지 않았고, 지렁이 독성의 실험에서는 포 소화약제 1,000mg/kg 조건에서도 치사에 영향을 미치는 요인이 발생하지 않아 두 실험모두 친환경성 기준에 만족하였다. 소화성능 실험은 물에 비해 1.6배 이상 성능이 우수한 것으로나타났다. This study aims at developing environmentally friendly foaming agents with high fire-fighting performance by using natural surfactant compositions, and evaluating its basic property, environmental friendliness and extinguishing performance. The basic property test was carried out on the newly-developed agent in accordance with standards outlined by the Ministry of Public Safety and Security in Korea. As for environmental friendliness, the toxicity tests were conducted with water fleas and earthworms. An independently developed device testing wildfire suppression performance was used to assess extinguishing capability. The results showed the foaming agent met all required properties in both experiments before and after the property change. In the toxicity test on water fleas, immobilization occurred with 48.854mg/l foaming agent, but in the test on earthworms, even the 1,000mg/kg foaming agent did not cause any fatal effect. Its extinguishing performance was found to be 1.6 times greater than water.
A New Garden Pea Cultivar "Daehyup 2" with Large Seed Size and High Sugar Contents

A new garden pea cultivar, Daehyup 2, was developed at the Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute (YARI) in 2006. It was selected from the cross between Olwandu and Sachulwandu in 1996. The preliminary, advanced, and regional yield trials for evaluation and selection of this cultivar were carried out from 2003 to 2006. It has white flower, yellow cotyledon, absent or very weakly curved pod shape and yellow seed color. It was resistant to virus and powdery mildew disease. The 100 green seed weight of Daehyup 2 was 65.5 g, which was 8.9 g heavier than check cultivar. The sucrose and total sugar contents of fresh pod of Daehyup 2 were 11.1% and 12.5%, respectively, which were 3.2% and 4.3% higher than those of Sachulwandu. The fresh pod yield of Daehyup 2 was similar to that of Sachulwandu with 12.16 ton per hectare in the regional yield trials carried out in three locations of Korea from 2005 to 2006.

Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A (eIF5A) is the only hypusine-containing protein, which is formed by deoxyhypusine synthase (DHS) and deoxyhypusine hydroxylase (DOHH). DOHH is a novel metalloenzyme with HEAT [named for human huntingtin (H), elongation factor 3 (E), a subunit of protein phosphatase 2A (A), and the target of rapamycin (T)]-repeat motifs. Inspite of much progress in determining the roles of iron-containing DOHH holoenzyme as an eIF5A hydroxylase, little is known about iron-free apoenzyme of DOHH under certain stress conditions. For this purpose, we compared cell growth in two yeast strains subjected to oxidative damage. Thus, the existence of more viable cells in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae BY4743 (parental yeast) strain than in the DOHH-null strain after H2O2 treatment indicates the importance of DOHH in protecting yeast cells against oxidative stress. To identify endogenous target proteins influenced by DOHH under oxidative damage, proteomic analysis was applied to the two yeast strains. Of these proteins, the oxidized form of peroxiredoxin I (PrxI) was concomitantly up-regulated in both strains under H2O2 treatment. Two-dimensional electrophoresis (DE) followed by immunoblot analysis shows that the recovery of the oxidized PrxI to the reduced enzyme under H2O2 treatment was found to be much slower in the DOHH-null strain than in the parental strain. Based on the results, we discovered a possible interaction between DOHH and PrxI by immunoprecipitation/immunoblotting in yeast under oxidative stress. Taken together, these results suggest that DOHH might be a candidate protein for protection of yeast cells against oxidative stress in conjunction with PrxI.

Self-reciprocal polynomials are important because it is possible to specify only half of the coecients. The special case of the self-reciprocal polynomial, the maximum weight polynomial, is particularly important. In this paper, we analyze even cell 90/150 cellular automata with linear rule blocks of the form < a1; ; an; d1; d2; bn; ; b1 >. Also we show that there is no 90/150 CA of the form < UnjR2jU n > or < UnjR2jU n > whose characteristic polynomial is f2n+2(x) = x2n+2 + + x + 1 where R2 =< d1; d2 > and Un =< 0; ; 0 >, and Un =< 1; ; 1 >.
Efficacy of the Life Goal-Focused Brief Intervention among Patients with Alcohol Use Disorder

Objective The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy of the life goal-focused brief intervention, or the so-called the goal-focused self-regulation program (GFSRP), for patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD). Methods The GFSRP was developed as an 8-week group-program, which is based on a wide range of self-regulation theories, such as goal setting and implementation intentions. Patients with AUD (n=50) took part in the GFSRP and were compared to the control group (n=48). This study examined the changes in outcome measures from baseline to follow-up (12-week) in a mixed design. Results The GFSRP group had higher scores for the abstinence self-efficacy in negative affect situations than the control group at the post-test. In addition, it showed greater scores of optimisms compared to the control group. Furthermore, in the GFSRP group, there was no difference in intrinsic life goals from baseline to the 12-week follow-up, whereas the control group showed a significant decrease. Conclusion The GFSRP could increase the abstinence self-efficacy and optimism among patients with AUD. Moreover, it might prevent loss of life-goals as core factors in self-regulation among patients with AUD.
Characteristics of Hydrogen-Plasma-Treated In0.5Ga0.5As Quantum-Dot Infrared Photodetector

The effects of hydrogen (H) passivation on the performance of an In$_{0.5}$Ga$_{0.5}$As/GaAs quantum-dot infrared detector (QDIP) have been investigated. After hydrogen (H) passivation, the device characteristics of QDIP were improved. The dark currents, which were thought to be caused by interfacial traps between quantum dots and GaAs, were noticeably decreased by 4 orders of magnitude at a positive bias voltage, and photoluminescence (PL) intensity was increased about 1.7 times by reducing non-radiative defect centers. Photo-response, which could not be observed in as-grown QDIP due to large dark currents and defects, was measured successfully with H passivation.
