The present study was performed on farm animals to test the effectiveness of progesterone-releasing intravaginal device (Cue-Mate® 1.56 g) and injection of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) for synchronization estrus in Hanwoo cattle. The cattle were at random stage of the estrus cycle. The cows were artificially inseminated at day 7 after Cue-Mate withdrawal, using commercial semen from Korean native bulls. There was a season effect on the estrus synchronization rate. It was higher in spring (94.3%) followed by winter (93.3%), autumn (90.4%) and summer (67.2%). In summary, The results of this study revealed that season has influences on estrus behavior of cattle with no significant effect on pregnancy rate. In summary, we suggest summer reproductive management to alleviate the effects of heat stress. It should be based on intensive cooling combined with hormonal treatment. Given that different subgroups of cows benefit differently from the treatments, selective hormonal administration should be considered.

Purpose: Because carbon monoxide (CO)-intoxicated patients with an alert mental status and only mild cognitive dysfunction may be inadequately assessed by traditional bedside neurologic examination in the emergency department (ED), they may not receive appropriate treatment. Methods: We retrospectively investigated the incidence and features of cognitive dysfunction using the Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE-K) in ED patients with CO poisoning with alert mental status. We conducted a retrospective review of 43 consecutive mild CO poisoned patients with a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 15 based on documentation by the treating emergency physician in the ED between July 2014 and August 2015. Results: Cognitive dysfunction, defined as a score of less than 24 in the MMSE-K, was diagnosed in six patients (14%) in the ED. In the MMSE-K, orientation to time, memory recall, and concentration/calculation showed greater impairments. The mean age was significantly older in the cognitive dysfunction group than the non-cognitive dysfunction group (45.3 yrs vs. 66.5 yrs, p<0.001). Among the initial symptoms, experience of a transient change in mental status before ED arrival was significantly more common in the cognitive dysfunction group (32.4% vs. 100%, p=0.003). Conclusion: Patients with CO poisoning and an alert mental status may experience cognitive dysfunction as assessed using the MMSE-K during the early stages of evaluation in the ED. In the MMSE-K, orientation to time, memory recall, and concentration/calculation showed the greatest impairment.

A case of prirnary pure cholesterol hepatolithiasis is reported. A 30-year-old man with right upper quadrant pain and fever turned out to have intrahepatic stones. Stone composition was documented by infrared spectroscopy and the presence of cholesterol crystal in hepatic bile was demonstrated using polarized microscope. The patient was treated with choledochoscopic stone extraction and oral dissolution therapy. The cholangioscopic finding showed only mild inflammation and no remarkable stricture in stone-bearing duct. We advocate biochemical analyses of both stone and. bile for the optimal therapy of primary hepatolithiasis. (Korean J Gastroenterol 1997; 30:136- 139)

고고도 환경 하에서 작동하는 발사체 엔진의 개발 시에는 반드시 실제 비행환경과 유사한 환경 하에서 정확한 추력 및 시동특성을 검증해야 한다. 따라서 고공환경 모사시험을 통하여 엔진의 성능을 확인해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 지상 대기조건 시험설비에서의 시험과는 달라야 하는 고공모사시험 및 설비의 필요성, 고공모사의 원리, 고공모사 설비의 종류 및 구성, 고공모사 설비의 설계 및 운용에 대해 기술한다. 특히 팽창비가 큰 상단엔진의 고공 시동/종료 성능과 쓰로틀링 성능, 재점화 성능 등을 파악할 수 있고 종료시 고팽창비 노즐의 좌굴을 방지할 수 있는 스팀이젝터 방식 고공모사설비에 대해 논의한다. The development of a launch vehicle engine operating in a high-altitude environment must include verifcation of accurate thrust and starting characteristics under an environment similar to the actual flight environment, therefore, the performance of the engine must be confirmed through a high-altitude environment simulation test. This paper describes the need for high-altitude simulation test facility. The principles, configurations, design and operation of high-altitude simulation test facility are discussed. In particular, overall aspects of steam ejector type facility for testing upper engine with a high expansion ratio are deeply discussed.

Mechanical properties of carbon coated SiCf/SiC composites have been investigated, in conjunction with a detailed analysis of microstructure. Especially, the fracture behavior of SiCf/SiC composites by the induction of carbon coating layers has been examined. The matrix region of SiCf/SiC composites with ultra-fine SiC powders were consolidated by a liquid phase sintering (LPS) process, using a sintering additive of Al2O3-Y2O3 powder compound. In this composite, plain and satin- woven Tyranno SA fabrics were also utilized as a reinforcing material. A carbon interfacial layer was coated around satin-woven SiC fabrics. The characterization of LPS-SiCf/SiC composites was investigated by means of SEM and three point bending test.

연속적으로 추출한 커피액을 단계별로 일정량 취하여 관능검사를 실행한 결과 고형분의 함량을 시료별로 동일하게 희석하였음에도 에스프레소 추출의 경우 30 mL 이상, 드립커피에서는 200mL 이상 추출한 경우 향미는 감소하고 이취는 증가하여 과추출이 시작됨을 인지할 수 있었다. 이는 추출 단계별로 고형분 성분의 조성비의 변화가 있음을 의미하며 GC/MS로 성분비의 변화를 확인한 결과 4-ethylguaiacol은 통계분석 시 이취에 높은 상관관계를 보여주는 유효 향기성분인 동시에 커피의 재료, 배전도, 추출 방식에 상관없이 추출이 경과함에 따라 성분비가 직선에 가까운 상승비를 보이므로 과추출을 나타내는 지표 물질로 사용할수 있음을 보여 주었다. Guaiacol과 4-vinylguaiacol은 이취와 통계적으로 높은 연관성을 보인 4-ethylguaiacol에 비해 향기 인지에 큰 영향을 미치는 ordor threshold value가 낮고 피크 면적 %는 큰 차이를 보이지 않으므로 과추출로 인한 이취에 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 여겨진다. 이들 성분이 과추출 인지점 이후 증가하는 피크 면적 %를 보이는 것은 세포벽을 구성하는 섬유질의 탄 맛이 일정량 계속 침출되기 때문으로 보인다. 인스턴트커피 및 농축 커피 용액 제조 시 관능검사 결과와 함께 GC/MS로 4-ethylguaiacol의 피크 면적 %결과를 비교 분석하면 용액의 추출수율과 관능적 품질 선호도 즉 경제성과 품질을 최적화할 수 있는 지표로 사용할 수 있을 것이다. To verify the volatile compounds contributing to coffee off-flavor, medium roasted Colombian, Sumatra, Ethiopian and light and dark roasted Colombian bean coffees were sequentially and studiously over extracted. Eight espresso samples and eight filter-dripped samples were analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry with the solidphase microextraction method and evaluated by sensory tests. In total, 67 compounds were detected, and desirable aroma decreased sharply, while off-flavors increased rapidly after 30 mL of espresso and 200 mL of drip coffee. Percent peak area of 4-ethylguaiacol revealed a linear increase during extraction and was highly correlated with increasing off-flavor, suggesting that it could be an indicator of over extraction. Considering the odor activity value, guaiacol and 4- vinylguaiacol were also contributory compounds to off-flavors.
