      • Effects of calcium doping on the superconducting properties of top-seeded melt growth processed Y1.5Ba2-xCaxCu3Oy superconductors

        Park, S.D.,Kim, H.J.,Park, B.J.,Han, Y.H.,Jun, B.H.,Lee, J.S.,Kim, C.J. North-Holland 2011 Physica. C, Superconductivity Vol.471 No.21

The effect of calcium doping on the superconducting properties of top seeded melt growth (TSMG) processed Y1.5Ba2-xCaxCu3Oy superconductors was studied in terms of calcium content (Xca). YBa2-xCaxCu3O7-δ (Xca=0, 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, 0.1, 0.3) powders were synthesized by the powder calcination method. YBa2-xCaxCu3O7-δ powders were mixed with 0.25mole Y2O3 powder and 1wt.% CeO2 as Y2BaCuO5 (Y211) refiner, and finally made into Y1.5Ba2-xCaxCu3Oy (Y1.5)+1wt.% CeO2 composition. The single Y123 growth on the top surface was observed up to Xca=0.1, while the multiple Y123 growth was observed at Xca≥0.1. The superconducting transition temperature (Tc) and critical current density (Jc) of TSMG processed Y1.5 samples were inversely proportional to Xca. The Y211 size increased with increasing Xca due to the enhancement of Y211 coarsening by calcium doping. No Y211 refining effect by CeO2 was observed in the calcium doped samples. The Tc and Jc decrease by calcium doping are likely to be due to the calcium incorporation with the Y123 lattice and formation of coarse Y211 particles.

      • Effects of Y2O3 additions on the oxygen diffusion in top-seeded melt growth processed YBa2Cu3O7-y superconductors

        Jun, B.H.,Jung, S.A.,Park, S.D.,Park, B.J.,Han, Y.H.,Kim, C.J. North-Holland 2011 Physica. C, Superconductivity Vol.471 No.21

To understand the effect of Y2BaCuO5 (Y211)/YBa2Cu3O7-y (Y123) interfaces on the oxygen diffusion in single grain YBa2Cu3O7-y superconductors, single grain Y123 superconductors with 0.05 and 0.3moles of Y2O3 additions were fabricated by a top-seeded melt growth (TSMG) process. Y123 compacts with Y2O3 additions were subjected to melt growth heating cycles with a cooling rate of 1oC/h through a peritectic temperature (1015oC) and then annealed at 450oC for 200h in flowing oxygen. The superconducting temperature (Tc) and critical current density (Jc) were estimated for the three different regions (top surface (s), intermediate (i) and center (c)) of samples. The amount of Y211/Y123 interface area in single grain Y123 superconductors was successfully controlled by Y2O3 additions. The Tc values of s regions were higher than those of i and c regions, which indicates the presence of more oxygen at the sample surfaces. In addition, the Tc values of i and c regions of the Y123 sample with 0.3mole Y2O3 addition were higher than those of the same regions of the Y123 sample with 0.05mole Y2O3 addition due to the promoted oxygen diffusion through Y211/Y123 interfaces and other related defects. In spite of the promoted oxygen diffusion by Y2O3 addition, the large Tc difference among the regions still existed, which suggests sluggish oxygen diffusion into single Y123 grains.

      • d-pinitol regulates Th1/Th2 balance via suppressing Th2 immune response in ovalbumin-induced asthma

        Lee, J.S.,Lee, C.M.,Jeong, Y.I.,Jung, I.D.,Kim, B.H.,Seong, E.Y.,Kim, J.I.,Choi, I.W.,Chung, H.Y.,Park, Y.M. North-Holland Pub ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2007 FEBS letters Vol.581 No.1

d-pinitol has been demonstrated to exert insulin-like and anti-inflammatory activities. However, its anti-allergic effect in the Th1/Th2 immune response is poorly understood. Recently, it was shown that T-bet and GATA-3 are master Th1 and Th2 regulatory transcription factors. In this study, we have attempted to determine whether d-pinitol regulates Th1/Th2 cytokine production, T-bet and GATA-3 gene expression in OVA-induced asthma model mice. We also examined to ascertain whether d-pinitol could influence eosinophil peroxidase (EPO) activity. After being sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin (OVA) showed typical asthmatic reactions. These reactions included an increase in the number of eosinophils in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, an increase in inflammatory cell infiltration into the lung tissue around blood vessels and airways, airway luminal narrowing, and the development of airway hyper-responsiveness (AHR). The administration of d-pinitol before the last airway OVA challenge resulted in a significant inhibition of all asthmatic reactions. Accordingly, this study may provide evidence that d-pinitol plays a critical role in the amelioration of the pathogenetic process of asthma in mice. These findings provide new insight into the immunopharmacological role of d-pinitol in terms of its effects in a murine model of asthma, and also broaden current perspectives in our understanding of the immunopharmacological functions of d-pinitol.

      • Effects of oxide coating on the growth of single grain YBCO bulk superconductors

        Park, S.D.,Jun, B.H.,Park, B.J.,Jung, S.Y.,Seong, B.S.,Kim, C.J. North-Holland 2009 Physica. C, Superconductivity Vol.469 No.15

Surface oxide coating and bottom inserting of oxide plates have been conducted to top seeded melt growth (TSMG) processed YBa2Cu3O7-y (Y123) bulk superconductors with an aim of controlling the Y123 nucleation and growth. The coating medium for surfaces was Yb2O3 solution and the bottom inserts were Yb2O3/Y2O3 powder compact. Many vertical cracks were found to develop at the compact/insert interfaces when an Yb2O3 insert was used, but the crack evolution was greatly reduced when a (Yb2O3+Y2O3) insert was used. The formation of the vertical cracks is ascribed to the difference in thermal expansion between the YBCO compact and bottom insert. Presence of vertical cracks was found to be crucial to the trapped magnetic field and levitation forces of single grain YBCO bulk superconductors. The Y123 nucleation and growth in TSMG-processed YBCO bulk superconductors were successfully controlled by conducting surface coating and bottom plating using a (Yb2O3+Y2O3) insert and as a result, the levitation properties were much enhanced.

Peroxiredoxin II promotes hepatic tumorigenesis through cooperation with Ras/Forkhead box M1 signaling pathway

        Park, Y-H,Kim, S-U,Kwon, T-H,Kim, J-M,Song, I-S,Shin, H-J,Lee, B-K,Bang, D-H,Lee, S-J,Lee, D-S,Chang, K-T,Kim, B-Y,Yu, D-Y Macmillan Publishers Limited 2016 Oncogene Vol.35 No.27

<P>The current study was carried out to define the involvement of Peroxiredoxin (Prx) II in progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and the underlying molecular mechanism(s). Expression and function of Prx II in HCC was determined using H-ras(G12V)-transformed HCC cells (H-ras(G12V)-HCC cells) and the tumor livers from H-ras(G12V)-transgenic (Tg) mice and HCC patients. Prx II was upregulated in H-ras(G12V)-HCC cells and H-ras(G12V)-Tg mouse tumor livers, the expression pattern of which highly similar to that of forkhead Box M1 (FoxM1). Moreover, either knockdown of FoxM1 or site-directed mutagenesis of FoxM1-binding site of Prx II promoter significantly reduced Prx II levels in H-ras(G12V)-HCC cells, indicating FoxM1 as a direct transcription factor of Prx II in HCC. Interestingly, the null mutation of Prx II markedly decreased the number and size of tumors in H-ras(G12V)-Tg livers. Consistent with this, knockdown of Prx II in H-ras(G12V)-HCC cells reduced the expression of cyclin D1, cell proliferation, anchorage-independent growth and tumor formation in athymic nude mice, whereas overexpression of Prx II increased or aggravated the tumor phenotypes. Importantly, the expression of Prx II was correlated with that of FoxM1 in HCC patients. The activation of extracellular signal-related kinase (ERK) pathway and the expression of FoxM1 and cyclin D1 were highly dependent on Prx II in H-ras(G12V)-HCC cells and H-ras(G12V)-Tg livers. Prx II is FoxM1-dependently- expressed antioxidant in HCC and function as an enhancer of Ras(G12V) oncogenic potential in hepatic tumorigenesis through activation of ERK/FoxM1/cyclin D1 cascade.</P>

      • Experimental evidence of hydrogen-oxygen decoupled diffusion into BaZr0.6Ce0.25Y0.15O3-δ

        Lim, D.K.,Im, H.N.,Jeon, S.Y.,Park, J.Y.,Song, S.J. Elsevier Science 2013 ACTA MATERIALIA Vol.61 No.4

The electrical properties of BaZr0.6Ce0.25Y0.15O3-δ (BZCY) were studied as a function of both oxygen partial pressure (-2.65≤log(PO'2atm-1)≤-0.62) and water vapor activity (-3.33≤log(PH'2Oatm-1≤-1.3)) in the temperature range of 973-1073K. The total conductivity slightly increased in reducing atmospheres with increasing water vapor activity because of the relative contribution to the total conductivity by the redox reaction at the given thermodynamic conditions. The partial conductivities of protons, holes and oxygen vacancies were successfully calculated, and the activation energy determined for proton transport was 0.3+/-0.1eV. The chemical diffusivity of oxygen at a fixed water vapor activity, D~vO, could only be evaluated from Fick's second law during oxidation and reduction at the fixed water vapor activity. However, twofold nonmonotonic conductivity relaxation behaviors were clearly confirmed in the temperature range investigated during hydration/dehydration. If PO'2 represents the fixed oxygen partial pressure, D~iH is the hydrogen chemical diffusivity at PO'2 and D~vH is the oxygen chemical diffusivity at PO'2, it was observed that D~iH>D~vH at all experimental conditions, suggesting that the hydrogen chemical diffusion is always faster than oxygen on hydration/dehydration in the temperature range studied.

Comparative Efficacy of Different Soy Protein Sources on Growth Performance, Nutrient Digestibility and Intestinal Morphology in Weaned Pigs

        Yang, Y.X.,Kim, Y.G.,Lohakare, J.D.,Yun, J.H.,Lee, J.K.,Kwon, M.S.,Park, J.I.,Choi, J.Y.,Chae, B.J. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2007 Animal Bioscience Vol.20 No.5

To elucidate the efficacy of different soy protein sources on piglet's performance, a total of 280 weaned piglets ($Duroc{\times}Yorkshire{\times}Landrace$, $23{\pm}3$ d of age, $5.86{\pm}0.45$ kg initial BW) were allotted to 5 treatment diets comprising soybean meal (SBM), soy protein concentrate (SPC), Hamlet protein (HP300), fungal (Aspergillus oryzae) fermented soy protein (FSP-A), and fungal plus bacterial (A. oryzae+Bacillus subtilis) fermented soy protein (FSP-B), respectively. Experimental diets for feeding trial were formulated to contain each soy protein sources at 8% level to corn-whey powder basal diet. There were 14 pigs per pen and 4 pens per treatment. Experimental diets were fed from 0 to 14 d after weaning and then a common commercial diet was fed from 15 to 35 d. Also for ileal digestibility studies, 18 pigs were assigned to 6 dietary treatments as N-free, SBM, SPC, HP300, FSP-A and FSP-B with T-canulation at distal ileum for 6 days. At $14^{th}$ d of experimental feeding, the ADG was significantly higher (p<0.05) in SPC fed diet as compared with others. Similar trend was noticed during the 15-35 d and overall study (0-35 d). All the processed soy protein sources tested in this experiment improved (p<0.05) growth than SBM during overall study. The nutrient digestibility of GE, DM, CP and Ca showed lower (p<0.05) values in SBM and FSP-A fed groups than SPC and FSP-B treatments. The apparent ileal digestibility of TEAA, non-TEAA and TAA showed lower (p<0.05) in SBM treatments compared with other soy protein sources. The true ileal digestibility of TEAA, non-TEAA and TAA were lower (p<0.05) in SBM fed group than SPC and HP300 treatments, and lower than FSP treatments though they didn't achieve significant difference (p>0.05). Villous height and crypt depth was not affected by dietary treatments. In conclusion, the growth and digestibility of nutrients in weaned pigs fed SPC was superior to others. Also FSP-A and FSP-B showed improved performance than those fed SBM.

Vol.8 No.-

The angular distribution of emission angle θ of helium (Z=2) produced in the collisions of incident particles of 200 GeV/nucleon ^32S in nuclear emulsion is well expressed by dN=exp[a+k exp(η-y_b)]d[exp(η-y_b)] where the pseudorapidity is η=-ln[tan(θ/2)], the laboratory system primary rapidity is y_b, and k=-0.057+0.008. The shape of this frequency of occurrence distributions in terms of exp(η-y_b) attests to the validity of the concept of "limiting fragmentation" for helium projectile fragments produced in the projectile fragmentation regions of heavy ion collisions in nuclear emulsion.

        韓國人의 標準體重値와 正常適應體重値에 關한 硏究

        尹太永,崔重明,朴淳永,金大棒 韓國保健敎育學會 1996 보건교육건강증진학회지 Vol.13 No.1

Using Random Sampling, the authors measured the body heights and weights of 31,151 persons- 17,102 in males and 14,049 in females from metropolitan, urban and rural areas between 6 to over 80 year old - for the purpose of investigating the type and the actual condition of the Korean's growth and development. At first, on the basis of the results, the authors measured the growth and development, various kinds of physiques, nutritional index of the 6 to 20s age group. Second, the authors presented the standard body weight of males and females by their body height, who were in the end of their growth (20-29 age group). Third, the authors calculated and presented the normal adapted body weight of the age group who were over 30 age after the growth had been completed. Forth, the author presented the obesity rate of the adults over 20 years old by body mass index. Finally, the authors compared chronological change of the Koreans' body heights and body weights with the results of other researchers. 1. Body Measurement Rapid growth, in terms of body height, which is described by a straight line on a growth curve has been observed among males in the ages 6-13 and among females 6-14. That growth curve turned out to be slower among the people of higher ages by both sexes. The cross-over occurred in both sexes at 11-14. The highest growth rate for a year is at 13-16 for males and 11-13 for females. This indicates that females enter a rapidly growing stage 2 years earlier than males. 2. Various Physiques and Nutritional Index Rapid growth, in terms of Relative Body Weight Index, which is described by a straight line, has been observed among males in the ages 6-16 and females in the ages 6-14. The cross-over occurred in both sexes 12.5-14.5 age in the adolescencent period. Whereupon females outgrow males. The Roher Index displayed more good value in case of females than male and in the adolescent period, the level of fullness is lower than after the completion of development. The Kaup Indices of both sexes increase with age. The index is less than 2.0 for males in 6-14 age group and for females in 6-13 age group and with this, it appeared that development of horizontal axis to long axis is poor. The index is more than 2.0 after 15 age group in males and 14 age group in females and developmental state4 age group and for females in 6-13 age group and with this, it appeared that development of horizontal axis to long axis is poor. The index is more than 2.0 after 15 age group in males and 14 age group in females and developmental state. Body Mass Index is less than 20 for males 6-14 age group and for females in 6-13 age group. In the case of the higher age group, that index maintains a normal state. 3. Average Body Height, Body Weight and Desirable Body Weight of Korean Youth (20-29 Age Group) The average body weight and body height of full-grown Korean youth was 172.5 ± 5.4㎝ and 66.3 = 9.5㎏ for male, 159.3 ±4.6 ㎝ and 53.5 ±6.9 ㎏ for females. In the case of calculating Desirable Body Weight of Korean youth, correlation coefficient of r = + 0.38(p < 0.001)between body height and body weight was found the male group and r = + 0.37(p < 0.001) in the female group, from which respective linear regression equation of body weight and height was established for male and female as follows; Male : Y(Body Weight, ㎏) = 0.66 x (Body Height, ㎝) - 48.93 Female :Y(Body Weight, ㎏) = 0.56 x (Body Height, ㎝) - 36.01 4. Formulae for calculating Normal Adapted Body Weight of Korean Adult. ⅰ)Average body height and body weight by age-groups 30-39 age-group Male : 170.4 ±4.9㎝ and 67.6 ±8.1㎏ Female : 158.5 ±3.9㎝ and 53.6 ±6.0㎏ 40-49 age-group Male : 169.1 ±4.9㎝ and 68.0 ±8.5㎏ Female : 157.3 ±4.7㎝ and 56.8 ±7.7㎏ 50-59 age-group Male : 168.1 ±6.8㎝ and 66.0 ±8.1㎏ Female : 157.2 ±4.7㎝ and 57.3 ±7.1㎏ 60-69 age-group Male : 168.0 ±5.3㎝ and 46.7 ±8.7㎏ Female : 155.2 ±5.0㎝ and 56.2 ±9.1㎏ Over 70 age-group Male : 166.1± 6.5㎝ and 62.8±1.2㎏ Female : 152.8 ±5.3㎝ and 52.8 ±8.5㎏ ⅱ) Correlation Coefficient and Linear Regression Equation by Age-groups 30-39 age-group Male : r=+0.44(p<0.001), Y=0.73X-57.94 Female : r=+0.45(p<0.001), Y=0.68X-55.52 40-39 age-group Male : r=+0.54(p<0.001), Y=0.93X-89.92 Female : r=+0.41(p<0.001), Y=0.67X-50.52 50-59 age-group Male : r=+0.32(p<0.001), Y=0.38X-1.22 Female : r=+0.37(p<0.001), Y=0.55X-29.76 60-69 age-group Male : r=+0.51(p<0.001), Y=0.83X-74.84 Female : r=+0.39(p<0.001), Y=0.70X-53.06 over 70 age-group Male : r=+0.63(p<0.001), Y=1.10X-119.96 Female : r=+0.40(p<0.001), Y=0.63X-44.64 Standard Body Weight and Normal Adapted Body Weight of Korean Adult by Age. Using respective regression equation, standard body weight<Table 10, 11>, normal adapted body weight <Table 12~21>, overweight and underweight of the Korean Adult was established for each age group. 6. Obesity Rate of Korean Adult Obesity rate of Korean adult was 9.4% (Male: 9.9%, Female : 8.4%). 7. The Chronological Change on Mean Values of Body Height and Body Weight in Korean Adult The Comparison with the mean values of body height and weight from 1910s to the present 1994 was been remarkably improved, and listed in <Table 23>.
