Perirenal fat thickness is associated with metabolic risk factors in patients with chronic kidney disease

        Luis D´Marco,Juan Salazar,Marie Cortez,María Salazar,Marjorie Wettel,Marcos Lima-Martínez,Edward Rojas,Willy Roque,Valmore Bermúdez 대한신장학회 2019 Kidney Research and Clinical Practice Vol.38 No.3

Background: Adipose tissue accumulation in specific body compartments has been associated with diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidemia. Perirenal fat (PRF) may lead to have direct lipotoxic effects on renal function and intrarenal hydrostatic pressure. This study was undertaken to explore the association of PRF with cardiovascular risk factors and different stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Methods: We studied 103 patients with CKD of different stages (1 to 5). PRF was measured by B-mode renal ultrasonography in the distal third between the cortex and the hepatic border and/or spleen. Results: The PRF thickness was greater in CKD patients with impaired fasting glucose than in those with normal glucose levels (1.10 ± 0.40 cm vs. 0.85 ± 0.39 cm, P < 0.01). Patients in CKD stages 4 and 5 (glomerular filtration rate [GFR] < 30 mL/min/1.73 m2) had the highest PRF thickness. Serum triglyceride levels correlated positively with the PRF thickness; the PRF thickness was greater in patients with triglyceride levels ≥ 150 mg/dL (1.09 ± 0.40 cm vs. 0.86 ± 0.36 cm, P < 0.01). In patients with a GFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m2, uric acid levels correlated positively with the PRF thickness (P < 0.05). Conclusion: In CKD patients, the PRF thickness correlated significantly with metabolic risk factors that could affect kidney function.

Analysis of Polymeric Knitted Fabrics on Properties for Telecommunications Devices Application

        Marcos S. Aquino,Samanta M. Holanda,Thiago F. Santos,Moisés V. Melo,Nestor D. L. Junior,Idalmir S. Q. Júnior,Humberto D. Andrade 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.11

The growing development of telecommunications, especially mobile telecommunications, has intensified researchinto microfiber antennas in the last years, since these have unique properties as well as a wide range of applications. Theresearch in the field of wearable technology is impelled by the demand for increasingly light and flexible devices, whereelectronic components are entirely embedded in their textile structures. The knitted fabrics have the necessary elasticity tocreate adaptive and sporty pieces, allowing high mobility and comfort to its users. The concept of textile antennas is based onmalleability and, for this reason, they can have great utility in applications where the stiffness of traditional antennas isconsidered a limitation, especially in military or biomedical garments. This study aims to determine the properties of thenatural and synthetic fibers knitted fabric for use in microwave devices, presenting the materials and methods used in theresearch to the prototyping and simulation of a microstrip antenna. Four knitted fabrics with different structures (Jersey andSimple Piquet) and fiber compositions (Cotton and Cotton with Polyamide) were selected. The determination of the electricalproperties was performed through the coaxial probe method to obtain the permittivity and tangent loss properties, and thedetermination of the physical properties according to the technical standards, where the textile properties (weight, dimensional stability, yarn count and tensile strength) of the analyzed samples were determined. The results were analyzedaccording to the proposed application and the CO_Piquet presented the lower loss tangent and better dimensional stability, the microstrip antenna was dimensioned to a frequency of 2.45 GHz according to the transmission line and resonant cavitymethod, and simulated in the HFSS where loss return, radiation diagrams and current density parameters was obtained.

Influence of Gas Desorption in a Safety Relief Valve Undergoing Cavitation

Marcos Lema,Anne Gosset,Fernando López Peña 한국유체기계학회 2019 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.12 No.4

In this study, the characterization of the flow through a safety relief valve (SRV) is performed in presence of cavitation and gas desorption. For this purpose, a transparent safety relief valve model is used on an experimental facility in which the flow conditions (mass flow rate, fluid temperature, and pressure upstream and downstream the valve) are accurately monitored. For six different valve openings, the characteristic curves of the valve are measured while flow visualization is performed on the transparent model. The results show that choked flow conditions are reached for the six valve openings used in this study, and with a remarkable repeatability. In order to take into consideration the gas saturation level of the working fluid, the vacuum system used to adjust the pressure downstream the valve is also used for gas desorption by storing the liquid under vacuum conditions, a process known as vacuum degasification. In saturated liquids the evolved gas bubbles modify the flow properties, such as the speed of sound, and this may have an influence in the cavitation inception and the occurrence of choked flow. This study proves that gas saturated water in standard conditions (atmospheric pressure and 293 K) has the same behavior that fully deaerated water, both under the same cavitating conditions. It is thus not necessary to take the saturation level of the liquid into account when in standard conditions.

      • An Intensity-Based Approach for Modeling Hedge Fung Equity

This paper analyzes an intensity-based approach for modeling hedge fund(HF) equity. We use the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross(CIR) process to describe the intensity of the HF"s default process. The intensity is purposely linked to the assets of the HF and consequently is also used to explain the equity. We examine two different approaches to link assets and intensity and derive closed-form expressions for the firms" equity in both models. We use the Kalman filter to estimate the parameters of the unobservable intensity process. The applicability of the presented methods is demonstrated on real data working with historical series from Merrill Lynch.

      • Subfamily Asopinae (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) in the Korean Peninsula

        Marcos Roca-Cusachs,Junggon Kim,Sunghoon Jung 한국응용곤충학회 2018 한국응용곤충학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2018 No.04

Subfamily Asopinae (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) is known to have a unique behaviour among congeners of the family Pentatomidae. Their predatory behavior towards Lepidoptera and Coleoptera larvae has been numerously studied as some of the species have been used as biological control agents against insect pests. In this presentation a morphological taxonomical revision of the Korean Asopinae is made. New records and the first key from Korea are presented together with illustrations of all their habitus. Their possible role as Biological control agents in Korea is also discussed.

The Effects of Two Preservatives on Peroxidase Activity and Total Protein Content in Strelitzia reginae during Cold Storage

        Marcos R da S Vieira,Luiz G M Pessoa,Walter S E Junior,Ygor H Leal,Luzia F da Silva,Rafael C Silva,Eduardo S dos Santos,Thialla L Amorim,Damina C de Medeiros 한국원예학회 2016 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.57 No.2

This study aimed to assess changes in peroxidase activity and total protein content of cut flowers of Strelitzia reginae that were treated with the chemical preservatives 8-hydroxyquinoline citrate (8-HQC) or chlorine during cold storage. The bases of the cut flowers were immersed in 1.5 L of tap water with 48 h pulsing treatments (a control with no chemical preservatives (0 mg·L-1, 100 mg·L-1 chlorine, 250 mg·L-1 8-HQC or 500 mg·L-1 8-HQC) during cold storage at 10.5°C and 90% relative humidity. The solutions were then replaced with tap water and the cut flowers remained in cold storage for 12 days. For biochemical characterization of peroxidase activity and total protein content, tissue samples (sepals, petals, stems, and bracts) were collected and analyzed at 0, 4, 8, and 12 days after treatment. There was an increase in peroxidase activity in petals, stems, and bracts and a decrease in total protein content, regardless of the treatment used. In this experiment, therefore, differences in peroxidase activity and total protein content due to treatments with 8-HQC or chlorine were not identified.

Synthesis of neodymium-doped manganese dioxide via electrodeposition for fast catalysis

Marcos A. Cheney,Xiwen Chen,주상우,민봉기 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.25 No.-

Neodymium (Nd) ions were successfully substituted for manganese in the crystal lattice of electrolytic amorphous nanomanganese dioxide (EAMD) for the first time, by cathodic deposition from a basic aqueous solution of KMnO4 at 22 8C. The synthesized nanomaterials are characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, HRTEM, and XPS. The Nd-doped EAMD (Nd-EAMD) produced at 5.0 V is amorphous with homogeneous size and morphology with an average particle size of 26.9 nm. The percent Nd substitution is about 0.69 at%. The as-prepared nanomaterials increase the rate of transformation of Rhodamine B (Rh B) in solution and proceed via an oxidative mechanism.

        Festividades prehispánicas Nahuas

Marcos Franco Lozano 한국스페인어문학회 2023 스페인어문학 Vol.- No.108

This thesis arises from the interest to know the meaning of the Nahuatl pre-Hispanic festivities, for that reason we can know the Nahuatl ceremonies and, at the same time we can know the principle of their duality. The Central Mexican festivals of the solar year are described with considerable detail in XVIth century sources. Until know, the rituals have always been interpreted according to their position in the solar year at the time they were first desctibed to the Spaniards. The cultural legacy expressed in manuscripts and testimonies of New Spain allowed us to have a panoramic view of the Mesoamerican world. According to ancient testimonies, the Aztecs made festivities practices closely linked to the agricultural cycle through representations in which live action exceeded the functional character of other plays, such as that of the West. Such festivals with agricultural rites have been interpreted as sowing or harvest festivals on the sole ground that in the 16th century they more or less coincided with those seasonal events. These rites demonstrations are written in the Roman transcription as taught by the Franciscans. From a date on one of the manuscripts, it is evident that in their present written form they date from a period shortly after the fall of the Aztec empire. Thus, in this paper, three pre-Hispanic festivals are analyzed. In chronological order are: a) Toxcatl was dedicated to Tezcatlipoca. b) Tecuilhuitontli was dedicated to Huixtocíhuatl. c) Toxiuh-molpilia was dedicated to Xiuhtecuhtli. In this way, the pre-Hispanic festive elements of the Nahuatl people are analyzed, how the festivities were manifested in their cultural environment, what was the sacred dimension of the ceremonies, their pre-Hispanic characteristics, their differences and similarities, and the principle of duality in the festivities.
