        Protective Effect of White-Skinned Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) against Renal Damage in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

        White-skinned sweet potato (WSP, Ipomoea batatas L.)는 일본, 인도네시아 등에서 당뇨병과 그 치료에 민간에서 사용되고 있다. 본 실험에서는 WSP의 메탄올 추출물을 체중 1 ㎏ 당 Dose 100, 200 ㎎을 투여하여 streptozotocin으로 유발된 당뇨쥐에서 손상된 신장 보호효과를 평가하였고 그 효능을 인슐린 분비촉진제인 glimepiride (45 ㎎/㎏ 체중)와 비교해 보았다. WSP 메탄올 추출물과 glimepiride를 2주 투여 한 후 혈당, 혈중 요소성 질소(BUN), 크레아티닌, 젖산 탈수소효소(LDH), 지질 과산화물(LPO) 함량, 그리고 항산화효소들인 superoxide dismutase(SOD), 카탈라아제(CAT), 글루타치온 과산화물 분해효소(GPx), 글루타치온 S-전이효소(GST) 등의 활성도를 측정하였다. BUN, 크레아티닌, LDH, 혈당, LPO 함량 등은 대조군에 비하여 그 값이 증가하였고, SOD, CAT, GPx, GST 값은 감소하였다. WSP 메탄올 추출물(200 ㎎/㎏)을 투여한 후 측정한 값은 혈당, LPO, 신장병 표지인자인 BUN, 크레아티닌, LDH, 그리고 지질 과산화물 함량에서 의미있는 개선효과를 볼 수 있었고 항산화효소, 항산화물질의 증가도 나타났다. 따라서 WSP 메탄올 추출물은 당뇨쥐의 혈당을 낮추며 산화적 스트레스를 약화시키고 당뇨로 유발된 신장 손상을 보호해 주는 효과가 있다는 결과를 얻었다. 또한 민간에서 사용하고 있는 WSP가 실제로 당뇨 치료에 효과가 있음을 과학적 증거로 제공해 주었다고 판단된다. White-skinned sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) has been traditionally used for diabetes treatment and management in many countries. In this experiment, methanol extract of white-skinned sweet potato (WSPMe) at a dose of 100 or 200 ㎎/㎏ body weight was tested to evaluate its effect on renal damage in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Its efficacy was compared with that of insulin secretogogue, glimepiride (50 ㎍/㎏ body weight). Experimental diabetes was induced by a single dose of STZ (45 ㎎/㎏, i.p.) injection. The WSPMe and glimepiride were administered orally for 14 days and the effects on glucose, renal markers including blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), lipid peroxide (LPO) level, antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathion-S-transferase (GST) activities in kidney were studied. An increase in BUN, creatinine, LDH, glucose, LPO levels and decrease in SOD, CAT, GPx and GST features were observed in diabetic control rats. Administration of WSPMe at a dose of 200 ㎎/㎏ body weight caused a significant improvement in blood glucose, LPO level, renal markers, lipid peroxidation markers and increased antioxidant levels in diabetic kidney. In conclusion, the WSPMe was found to be effective in reducing oxidative stress, thus confirming the ethnopharmacological use of I. batatas L. in protecting diabetes and its complications.

      • 인지적 도덕발달이론의 단계이행과정에 대한 분석

        The purpose of this study is to re-examine the differences between traditional modes of Kohlberg's moral developmental theory and the assumption of Kim Sang-yun. Kim's moral developmental theory is that stage 2 and P are of cognitive features whereas stage 3 and 4 are noncognitive, and there are differences between boys and girls in moral development. The hypotheses set up in this study are as follows. In the stage of morality related to cognitive characteristics Hy.1-1 Morality of stage 2 will reveal differences with increasing age. Hy.1-2 Morality of stage P will reveal differences with increasing age. In the stage of morality related to noncognitive characheristics Hy.2-1 Morality of stage 3 will reveal no differences with increasing age. Hy.2-2 Morality of stage 4 will reveal no differences with increasing age. In the trend of moral development between the sexes Hy.3-1 There will be no sex differences in morality of stage 2 and stage P. Hy.3-2 There will be sex differences in morality of stage 3 and stage 4. This study covered the period from February 8 to 13, 1993. The object of this study sampled at random are 6th graders of a primary school. 2nd graders of a middle school, and 1st graders of a high school in Sosan in Chunguam. The number of whole sampling was 412. The 186 samples were meaningless and without consistency. At last 226 samples were used on this study. This study used Rest's DIT translated by Kim and Park. The average score of the groups was analyzed by One-Way ANOVA and the differences between the groups by Tukey test. The result of this study is that there was a meaningful difference in the average score between the age groups in stage 2 and 3, and that there was a trend in which the score gets lower with increasing age. On the other hand, moral development of stage 4 didn't reveal any meaningful difference in the average score between the age groups. And morality of stage P reveals the meaningful difference of the average score in the different age groups and the average score increased with age. In moral development, there is no sex difference in stage 2, 3, and 4, but the girls are different from the boys in stage 4. This corresponds with Kim's study. The following conclusions are derived from the result. First, Kim suggests like this : morality contains both cognitive and noncognitive characterstics, and in the developmental trend related to cognitive characteristics, stage 2 and P can be replaced, whereas stage 3 and stage 4 related to noncognitive characteristics are adopted at the very early age and last without regard to age. But Kim's assumption can not be proved validity. Second, Kim's assumption that the developmental trend in stage 2 and P reflecting cognitive charcteristics will reveal sex differences has no validity. The cognitive theory of moral development that the sex differences have no influence on moral development can be more valid.

      • 정전위 SSRT법에 의한 해양구조물용 Cu함유 고장력저합금강의 수소취성한계전위 규명에 관한 연구

        A marine structural material was well known to have high tensile strength, good weldability and proper corrosion resistance . Cu-containing high strength low alloy (HSLA) steel was recently developed for their purposes mentioned above, And the steel is free about preheating for welding, therefore it is reported that shipbuilding cost by using it can be saved more or less. However the marine structural materials like Cu-containing HSLA steel are being generally adopted with cathodic protection method in severe corrosive environment like natural sea water but the high strength steel may give rise to Hydrogen Embrittlement due to over protection at high cathodic current density for cathodic protection. In this study, Cu-containing HSLA steel using well for marine atructure was investigated about the susceptibility of Hydrogen Embrittlement as functions of tensile strength, strain ratio, fracture time, and fracture mode, etc. and an optimum cathodic protection potential by slow strain rate test(SSRT) method as well as corrosion properties in natural sea water. And its corrosion resistance was superior to SS400 steel , but Hydrogen Embrittlement susceptibility of Cu-containing HSLA steel was hider than that of SS400 steel. However Hydrogen Embrittlement of its steel by SSRT method was showed with pheonomena such as decreasing of fracture time. strain ratio and fracture mode of QC (quasi-cleavage) Eventually it is suggested that an optimum cathodic protection potential not presenting Hydrogen Embrittlement of Cu-containing of HSLA steel by SSRT method was from-770mV(SCE) to - 900mV(SCE) under natural sea water.
