        Hyaluronate/black phosphorus complexes as a copper chelating agent for Wilson disease treatment

        Background: Wilson disease (WD) is a genetic disorder of copper storage, resulting in pathological accumulation of copper in the body. Because symptoms are generally related to the liver, chelating agents capable of capturing excess copper ions after targeted delivery to the liver are highly required for the treatment of WD. Methods: We developed hyaluronate-diaminohexane/black phosphorus (HA-DAH/BP) complexes for capturing copper ions accumulated in the liver for the treatment of WD. Results: HA-DAH/BP complexes showed high hepatocyte-specific targeting efficiency, selective copper capturing capacity, excellent biocompatibility, and biodegradability. HA enhanced the stability of BP nanosheets and increased copper binding capacity. In vitro cellular uptake and competitive binding tests verified targeted delivery of HA-DAH/BP complexes to liver cells via HA receptor mediated endocytosis. The cell viability test confirmed the high biocompatibility of HA-DAH/BP complexes. Conclusion: HA-DAH/BP complexes would be an efficient copper chelating agent to remove accumulated copper in the liver for the WD treatment.

      • DC/DC 승압 컨버터의 출력 특성 개선을 위한 스너버 회로 설계

        Applications of DC!DC boost converters are increasing recently in many industrial areas including renewable energy sources. High switching frequency of the power semiconductor devices including MOSFET, IGBT causes the EMI noise owing to the large values of dv/dt and di/dt. Since the EMI noises degrade power efficiency and reliability of the system many researches have been made to reduce the noise. This paper presents a passive snubber circuit to improve the tum-on and turn-off transients of the pulsewidth modulated (PWM) DC/DC boost converters. The noises in the output voltage of the DC!DC converter are reduced by adding a resistor and an inductor to the circuit. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed snubber circuit to improve the output characteristics of the boost converter.

        This paper has dealt with the differences between existential there and locative there, the role of existential there in the sentence, the restrictions of the distribution of existential there. the formulation of There - Insertion, and There - Insertion and Verb Agreement. Main findings are as follows; In the first place, one of the important differences between existential there and locative there is that existential there is always unstressed and locative there is always stressed, Another difference between them is that existential there is used as a subject NP, while locative there is never used as an NP. In the second place, the fact that there plays the role of the derived subject in the sentence can be proved as follows : first, there and verb are inverted in the yes-no question; second, in the tag question, there appears as a derived sub-ject; third, there appears as a subject in the and so clause. In the third place, there are three restrictions of the distribution of existential there. First, existential there can appear only in the subject position in the sentence. Second, it can cooccur with only a verb of existence. Third, indefinite NP must come after the verb of existence in the existential there sentence. In the fourth place, the following formulation which can meet the restrictions of the distribution of existential there has been proposed. There - Insertion SD: NP - Aux-V-X [-Def]'[+Exist] 1 2 3 4 SC: there 2 3+1 4 Finally, one of the two methods explaining There - Insertion and Verb Agreement is that of imposing the rule ordering constraint by ordering There - Insertion rule after Subject-Verb Agreement. The other is the global method of adding a mechanism to the grammar, making sure that if derived subject is there, finite verb must agree with the NP which the derived subject there has replaced, regardless of the position of the NP in the tree diagram. The latter method has proved to be better because it can solve the problem which the former can not solve.

        Language has a close relationship with culture in the aspects of vocabulary as well as linguistic structure. Therefore, culture must be taught when wo teach language. And it is desirable that language and culture should be taught at the same time, not separately. When we teach foreign languages, it is necessary to limit the scope of the foreign language culture for the efficiency because it is almost immpossible to teach all the items of culture. Among the five types of culture classified by Brooks, culture four is thought to be the desirable scope. And for the efficiency of learning, it is desirable to contrast learners' own culture with foreign culture and teach the differences between them. A good method of contrast would be Robert Lado's contrastive ana'ysis which contrasts two cultures based on form, meaning, and distribution of the culture items. Culture teaching methods can be classifien into two. One is the method by which teachers explain to the students culture items impromptu while teaching language skills whenever they come acrose culture items in the texts. This method is good because language and culture can be taught simultaneously, but it is deficient because it is not systematic but desultory. The other method is that we teach language skills by using the text written about the culture of target foreign language. This method can serve a double purpose because culture and language can also be taught at the same time. But it has a deficient point because it is difficult to describe all the culture items and arrange them structurally in the light of language skills. The concret culture teaching techniques like the following have been discussed: Culture Aside, Culture Assimilator, Culture Capsules, Mini-drama, Audio-Motor-Unit, Role-Playing, Songs and Dance, Festivals, Newspapers and Magazines, Bulletin Board, Student Projects, and others. In conclusion, understanding foreign culture is very important when we learn foreign languages.

      • 영어 수동구문 용법에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to examine the differences between passives and actives, the constraints of passives, the types of passives. the passives with agents and the passives without agents, the occasions when passives are used, etc. and then to analyze the passives appearing in the current high school English textbooks, helping understand the usage of passives corrtectly The main findings of this study are as follows . First, there are cases when passives and their corresponding actives are considerably different in meaning and usage. Second, there are many actives which can not be transformed into passives Third, there are various kinds of passive auxiliaries, such as be. get, become, grow, stand feel, remain, rest, appear, lie, seem, look, sit, etc., of which the verb be is most frequently used that is, 93.8% of the passives in the current high school English books include the verb be. Fourth, the passives without agents are much more than the passives with agents. That is, 85.7% of the passives in the current high school English textbooks are without agents. Fifth the results of the English textbook analysis show that passives are most frequently used when the agents are not clear and when the receivers of action at are emphasized, which occupy 32.2% and 29.0% respectively. There are several other cases when passives are prefeerred. Some suggestions based on this study are as fellows: First, teachers must teach students to understand that the meanings of passives and their corresponding actives are not always the same. and their usages are different and the teaching method by which teachers make students only transform actives into passives and vice versa must not be used. Second teachers must teach students to understand that there are several other passive auxiliaries besides the verb be, and to understand the correct usage of them. Third. teachers must teach students to understand that the passives without agents are much more than the passives with agents, and to correctly understand when and why the passives without agents are used . Fourth, teachers must teach students to correctly understand when and why passives are used. In conclusion we believe that the factors mentioned above will be helpful in teaching the usage of passives correctly, though more study is needed .

        Recently, it was reported that the life of Al Sacrifical anode is being used in port piers has been significantly shortened, compared with the original design life (e.g. average life shortened from 20 years to 13~15 year). Those factors involving these problems mentioned above were seemed to be a quality of anode material and diverse environmental factors, such as pH, flow rate, temperature, Dissolved oxygen, Chemical oxygen demand and resistivity etc. In this study, flow rate and contamination degree(pH) of sea water affecting to sacrificial anode life have been investigated in terms of electrochemical characteristics of Al alloy sacrificial anode. It was known that the lifetime of Al alloy anode was shortened not only by increasing of self-corrosion quantity by varying flow rate of sea water but also by increasing corrosion current density due to the potential difference increment between Al anode and steel structure cathode by varying contamination degree of sea water, Especially when anode current density is from 1 mA/cm2 to 3mA/cm2 and flow rate of sea water is under 2m/s, anode current efficiency is 90% above. However flow rate is over 2m/s anode current efficiency fell down sharply due to erosion corrosion as well as galvanic corrosion.

        Effect of Fenofibrate Medication on Renal Function

        Background: Fibrates are widely used to treat hypertriglyceridemia, a risk factor for arteriosclerosis, but these com-pounds have been associated with renal dysfunction. This study aimed to investigate the effects of fibrates on renal function in relatively healthy adult subjects with no cardiovascular diseases.Methods: This retrospective study included 558 outpatients who were prescribed 160 mg fenofibrate (fenofibrate group) or 10 mg atorvastatin (control group) between August 2007 and October 2015. The groups were randomly matched using propensity scores at a 1:1 ratio. Serum creatinine levels and estimated glomerular filtration rates be-fore and after treatment were compared between the two groups.Results: Patients in the fenofibrate group showed greater changes in serum creatinine levels than those in the con-trol group (9.73%±9.83% versus -0.89%±7.37%, P<0.001). Furthermore, 55.1% of patients in the fenofibrate group, but only 6.1% of those in the control group, exhibited a serum creatinine level increase ≥0.1 mg/dL (P<0.001). The fenofibrate group showed significantly greater declines in the estimated glomerular filtration rate than the control group (-10.1%±9.48% versus 1.42%±9.42%, P<0.001). Moreover, 34.7% of the fenofibrate group, but only 4.1% of the control group, exhibited an estimated glomerular filtration rate decrease ≥10 mL/min·1.73 m2 (P<0.001).Conclusion: Fenofibrate treatment resulted in increased serum creatinine levels and reduced estimated glomeru-lar filtration rates in a primary care setting. Therefore, regular renal function monitoring should be considered es-sential during fibrate administration.
