<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>With the increase in the application of nano-consumer products containing engineered nanoparticles (NPs), the unintended environmental exposure to NPs has been inevitable. Because of the bioaccumulation of NPs, concern about their potential cytotoxicity to aquatic organisms is also growing. Although measuring tools for analyzing particle size and/or concentration of NPs in intracellular uptake of tissues have been well developed, a simultaneous analysis of the two characteristics is difficult. The objective of this study was to use single particle-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (sp-ICP-MS) to measure the bioaccumulation and particle size changes of NPs exposed to zebrafish (<I>Danio rerio</I>) for 7 days. The uptake of NPs in the liver, intestine, and gill tissues was confirmed by electron microscopic (EM) analysis. However, the primary particle size of NPs in tissues could not be determined by the EM analysis. Therefore, sp-ICP-MS coupled with alkaline digestion was used for the easy extraction and immediate analysis of NPs from tissues. Zebrafish were exposed to four NPs (30 and 80 nm gold/silver NPs; AuNPs/AgNPs). Uptake amounts of AgNPs in the liver and intestine were significantly higher than those of AuNPs. Although larger NPs were finally accumulated in the liver and intestine tissues, most of the smaller NPs were filtered in the gills. The sp-ICP-MS method coupled with alkaline digestion enabled the accurate analysis of size, size distribution, and mass concentration of NPs in an aquatic organism.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> SP-ICP-MS was applied to analyze the exposure and uptake of NPs by living zebrafish. </LI> <LI> High recovery efficiency of NPs from the liver of zebrafish was obtained by alkaline extraction. </LI> <LI> Uptake amounts of AgNPs in the liver and intestine were significantly higher than those of AuNPs. </LI> <LI> SP-ICP-MS enabled an accurate analysis of NP features in an aquatic organism. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

이 연구는 국내의 민간조사의 주무관청의 설정방향에 대하여 살펴보고자 하였고, 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 현재 잠정적으로 민간조사업체 50% 이상이 밀집되어 있는 수도권의 서울지방경찰청과 경기지방경찰청에서 민간조사업무와 밀접한 연관성을 가지고 있는 경찰관 57명을 대상으로 최근에 개발된 Nvivo 8 프로그램을 활용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 앞으로 민간조사업이 도입되면 주무관청은 경찰청과 민간전문기관으로 설정되어야 한다고 하였다. 이중 경찰청이 되어야 하는 것은 경비업과의 연관성 32(65.3%), 경찰과 협력성 14(28.5%), 경찰업무와 유사성 3(7.1%)로 나타났으며, 민간전문기관에 위탁되어야 하는 것은 전문성과 효율성 24(64.8%), 민영화 8(21.6%), 경찰인력부족 5(13.5%) 으로 범주화되었다. 연구결과를 종합하여 보면 국내 민간조사업의 주무관청을 경찰청이 되어야 하는 것은 기존의 민간경비업과의 연관성이 크기 때문인 것이고, 한편 민간전문기관을 주무관청으로 하여야하는 것은 민간전문기관이 전문성과 효율성이 크기 때문인 것이라는 결론을 도출하였다.
Cryopreservation of Sporothalli of the Genus Porphyra (Bangiales, Rhodophyta) from Korea

Cryopreservation of sporothalli of the red alga Porphyra (P. seriata, P. yezoensis, P. tenera, P. pseudolinearis and P. dentata) was performed by the two-step cooling method in liquid nitrogen. The algal samples were suspended in various cryoprotective solutions, and slowly cooled to -40$^{\circ}C$ in 4 hours using a programmed freezer. After the first slow cooling the suspensions with cryoprotectants were immediately immersed in liquid nitrogen. The suspension from the programmed freezer was thawed quickly by agitation of the vial in a water bath at 40°C. When ice in the suspension of cryogenic vial was mostly melted, the vial was transferred to an ice bath for complete melting of the residual ice. The cryoprotectants in the vial were washed off by gradual dilution with seawater. The viability of the cell was assessed with neutral red staining. The viability of Porphyra samples ranged 54.6-70.9% when the mixed suspension of 10% dimethylsulfoxide and 0.5 M sorbitol in 50% seawater used as a cryoprotectant.

An intelligence agency in modern society is being shared the roles depending on institution. In case of our country, it is being undertaken the industrial security by the National Intelligence Service(NIS), the national se-curity by the Defense Security Command, and the collection of public-safety information by the police. However, in case of the police, it is the real situation that cannot guarantee the quality of information due to the lack of manpower, to the budget, and to the very extensive scope of gathering information. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to questingly examine the factors of job satisfaction in employees of the police intelligence agency. Based on the outcome, a plan for improving job satisfaction in police intelligence officials was discussed. As a result of analyzing the job-satisfaction factors in the members of the police intelligence agency, it was indicated to be very satisfactory(7.6%), satisfactory(32.6%), moderate(33.6%), dissatisfactory(26.0%), and very dissatisfactory(0.0%). It was possessed 40.2% by adding ‘very satisfactory’ and ‘satisfactory’ and 26% by ‘dissatisfactory’ and ‘very dissatisfactory.’ As a result of analyzing the statistical value through frequency analysis, the positive opinion can be known to be higher than the negative opinion. As a result of the mean val-ue by factor, it was shown to be socio-cognition factor(4.20), economic-support factor(3.85), organizational-culture factor(3.58), field-operation factor(3.20), and infrastructure factor(3.12). As a result of this study, the improvement plans for job satisfaction in the police intelligence agency were shown to include a change in consciousness of members in the police intelligence agency, an increase in effi-ciency of a task through sharing information with other institutions, the intensification in a financial support for the activity of collecting information, the arrangement for the educational facilities and the curriculum for se-curing professionalism, and a change in a performance evaluation system of the information collection. In this paper, we study an area-preserving piecewise linear map with the feature of dangerous border collision bifurcations. On the invariant set of the system, KAM-type structures, which is a typical characteristic of an area preserving map, is investigated. Specially, we show that certain KAM-curves on the invariant set are non smooth curves.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Recent evidence suggests that obese animals exhibit increased endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in the liver and adipose tissue. Although ER stress is closely associated with lipid homeostasis, it is largely unknown how ER stress contributes to hepatic steatosis. In this study, we demonstrate that the induction of ER stress stimulates hepatic steatosis through increased expression of the hepatic very low‐density lipoprotein receptor (VLDLR). Among the unfolded protein response sensors, the protein kinase RNA‐like ER kinase–activating transcription factor 4 signaling pathway was required for hepatic VLDLR up‐regulation. In primary hepatocytes, ER stress–dependent VLDLR expression induced intracellular triglyceride accumulation in the presence of very low‐density lipoprotein. Moreover, ER stress–dependent hepatic steatosis was diminished in the livers of VLDLR‐deficient and apolipoprotein E–deficient mice compared with wild‐type mice. In addition, the VLDLR‐deficient mice exhibited decreased hepatic steatosis upon high‐fat diet feeding. <I>Conclusion</I>: These data suggest that ER stress–dependent expression of hepatic VLDLR leads to hepatic steatosis by increasing lipoprotein delivery to the liver, which might be a novel mechanism explaining ER stress–induced hepatic steatosis.
