        A Novel Natural Dye Derivative for Natural Fabric Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Dyeing Technology

        The supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) dyeing technology is a green dyeing technology, and the usage ofnatural dye makes SC-CO2 dyeing technology safer and more environment-friendly. Nevertheless, after using natural dye inSC-CO2 dyeing, the color depth and fastness of dyed natural fabric are poor. In this study, alkyl and hydroxyalkyl groupswere grafted onto alizarin, which is a natural dye, to elevate the color depths and fastness of alizarin-derivative-dyed naturalfabric. The results demonstrate that the color depths of alkyl-alizarin-dyed and hydroxyalkyl-alizarin-dyed natural fabricswere increased. This has to do with the increase in the solubilities of alkyl alizarin and hydroxyalkyl alizarin in SC-CO2. Thehydroxybutyl-alizarin-dyed wool displayed the best color depth (K/S value: 6.44). And the hydroxyalkyl-alizarin-dyednatural fabric showed good washing fastness and rubbing fastness (about 4-5 level), because that hydroxyalkyl alizarin couldbe linked by a covalent bond to the natural fabric.

      • A new family of spatial 3-DOF parallel manipulators with two translational and one rotational DOFs

        <B>SUMMARY</B><P>This paper proposes a new family of spatial 3-DOF (degree of freedom) parallel manipulators with two translational and one rotational DOFs. The manipulators in this family are the variations of the parallel manipulators, which are capable of very high rotational capability, introduced by X.-J. Liu, J. Wang, and G. Pritschow (“A new family of spatial 3-DoF fully parallel manipulators with high rotational capability,” <I>Mech. Mach. Theory</I>40(4), 475-494, 2005). However, compared with those old manipulators, the new parallel manipulators proposed here have the advantages of simpler kinematics and structure, easier manufacturing, and energy saving.</P>

        An Intention-aware and Online Driving Style Estimation Based Personalized Autonomous Driving Strategy

        Autonomous vehicles are aiming at improving driving safety and comfort. They need to perform socially accepted behaviors in complex urban scenarios including human-driven vehicles with uncertain intentions. What’s more, understanding human drivers’ driving styles that make the systems more human-like or personalized is the key to improve the system performance, in particular, the acceptance and adaption of autonomous vehicles to human passengers. In this study, a personalized intention-aware autonomous driving strategy is proposed. An online driving style identification is proposed based on double-level Multi-dimension Gaussian Hidden Markov Process (MGHMP) with arbitration mechanism and evaluated in field test. A Mixed Observable Markov Decision Process (MOMDP) is built to model the general personalized intention-aware framework. A human-like policy generation mechanism is used to generate the possible candidates to overcome the difficulty in solving MOMDP. The index of surrounding vehicles’ intention of the upper-level MGHMP is updated during each prediction time step. The weighting factors of the reward function are configured with the identification result of lower-level MGHMP. The personalized intention-aware autonomous driving strategy is evaluated on a Real-Time Intelligent Simulation Platform. Results show that the proposed strategy can achieve the online identification accuracy above 95 % and for personalized autonomous driving in scenarios mixed with human-driven vehicles with uncertain intentions.

        The Predictive Value of Pre-therapeutic Serum Gamma-glutamyl transferase in Efficacy and Adverse Reactions to Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy among Breast Cancer Patients

        Purpose: Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) has been reported as being involved in tumor progression. Previous studies documented a potential relationship between serum GGT level and survival outcome in several types of human malignancies. However, the association between serum GGT levels and response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has not yet been reported. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between pre-therapeutic serum GGT level and the efficacy, long-term survival, and adverse reactions of NAC and to investigate its role in predicting NAC sensitivity in patients with breast cancer. Methods: A total of 129 patients were recruited and stratified into 2 groups according to serum GGT level (< 29 U/L and ≥ 29 U/L). The association between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and clinicopathological parameters was examined. The correlation between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and pathological complete response (pCR) was analyzed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Survival analyses of relapse-free survival (RFS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were performed. Pearson's χ2 test and multivariate logistic regression model were used to analyze the correlation between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and adverse reactions. Results: Pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels were associated with pCR among breast cancer patients treated with NAC. Multivariate analysis showed that low-level GGT significantly increased pCR rate. Patients in the high-level GGT group had poorer survival than those in the low-level GGT group. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that serum GGT level was potentially related to RFS and DFS in the hormone receptor-positive group. Low levels of GGT are significantly associated with a higher incidence of neutropenia. Conclusion: Pre-therapeutic serum GGT level is an independent and novel biomarker for predicting the efficiency, prognosis, and adverse reactions to NAC in breast cancer patients. Patients with low pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels are more likely to have higher pCR rates, better RFS and DFS, and higher hematologic toxicity.

        Dissecting the meteorological and genetic factors affecting rice grain quality in Northeast China

        Background The Northeast Plain of China, which is an important region for the production of high grain quality rice in China. However, the grain quality of the rice produced varies across this region, even for the same cultivar. Objective In order to explore the meteorological factors that have the greatest infuence on quality and the transcriptional level diferences between diferent cultivars and diferent locations at grain flling stage. Methods We grew eight rice cultivars in three locations in Northeast China during two growing seasons (2017 and 2018). We recorded meteorological conditions, including air temperature, air temperature range, and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) during the grain-flling stage of each cultivar, and analyzed the grain quality of those eight cultivars. Results Across all eight cultivars, meteorological factors had a stronger efect on eating quality than genotype, while genotype had a stronger efect on milling quality. Of the three environmental factors assessed, PAR was signifcantly correlated with the most grain quality traits. Using RNA-sequencing analysis, we identifed 573 environment-specifc DEGs (Diferentially Expressed Genes), and 119 genotype-specifc DEGs; 11 DEGs were responsive to genotype×environment interactions. These DEGs were involved in many key metabolic processes. Conclusion Our results indicated that interactions among environmental factors, especially PAR, afected rice quality in Northeast China. Further analyses of the DEGs identifed herein may provide useful information for future breeding programs aiming to develop high grain quality rice varieties suitable for cultivation across Northeast China.

        Interplay between the Gut Microbiome and Metabolism in Ulcerative Colitis Mice Treated with the Dietary Ingredient Phloretin

        A growing number of healthy dietary ingredients in fruits and vegetables have been shown to exhibit diverse biological activities. Phloretin, a dihydrochalcone flavonoid that is abundant in apples and pears, has anti-inflammatory effects on ulcerative colitis (UC) mice. The gut microbiota and metabolism are closely related to each other due to the existence of the food-gut axis in the human colon. To investigate the interplay of faecal metabolites and the microbiota in UC mice after phloretin treatment, phloretin (60 mg/kg) was administered by gavage to ameliorate dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced UC in mice. Gut microbes and faecal metabolite profiles were detected by high-throughput sequencing and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis, respectively. The correlations between gut microbes and their metabolites were evaluated by Spearman correlation coefficients. The results indicated that phloretin reshaped the disturbed faecal metabolite profile in UC mice and improved the metabolic pathways by balancing the composition of faecal metabolites such as norepinephrine, mesalazine, tyrosine, 5-acetyl-2,4- dimethyloxazole, and 6-acetyl-2,3-dihydro-2-(hydroxymethyl)-4(1H)-pyridinone. Correlation analysis identified the relations between the gut microbes and their metabolites. Proteus was negatively related to many faecal metabolites, such as norepinephrine, L-tyrosine, laccarin, dopamine glucuronide, and 5-acetyl-2,4-dimethyloxazole. The abundance of unidentified Bacteriodales_S24-7_group was positively related to ecgonine, 15-KETE and 6-acetyl-2,3-dihydro-2- (hydroxymethyl)-4(1H)-pyridinone. The abundance of Christensenellaceae_R-7_group was negatively related to the levels of 15-KETE and netilmicin. Stenotrophomonas and 15-KETE were negatively related, while Intestinimonas and alanyl-serine were positively related. In conclusion, phloretin treatment had positive impacts on faecal metabolites in UC mice, and the changes in faecal metabolites were closely related to the gut microbiota.

        Combination of Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and 11C-Methionine Positron Emission Tomography for the Accurate Diagnosis of Non-Enhancing Supratentorial Glioma

        Objective: To evaluate whether the combination of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and 11C-methionine positron emission tomography (11C-MET PET) could increase accurate diagnostic sensitivity for non-enhancing supratentorial gliomas. Materials and Methods: Between February 2012 and December 2017, 109 patients with non-enhanced supratentorial lesions on contrast-enhanced MRI were enrolled. Each patient underwent MRS and 11C-MET PET before treatment. A lesion was considered to be a glioma when either the MRS or 11C-MET PET results reached the diagnostic threshold. The radiological diagnosis was compared with the pathological diagnosis or medical diagnostic criteria. Results: The sensitivity and specificity were 60.0% and 50.0% for MRS and 75.8% and 50.0% for 11C-MET PET, respectively. Upon combining the two modalities, the sensitivity and specificity of the imaging-based diagnosis prior to surgery reached 89.5% and 42.9%, respectively. Statistically significant differences in the sensitivities were observed between the combined and individual approaches (MRS alone, 89.5% vs. 60.0%, p < 0.001; 11C-MET PET alone, 89.5% vs. 75.8%, p = 0.001). However, no significant differences in specificity were observed between the combined and individual modalities. Conclusion: The combination of MRS and 11C-MET PET findings significantly increases accurate diagnostic sensitivity for nonenhancing supratentorial gliomas without significantly lowering the specificity. This finding suggests the potential of the combined MRS and 11C-MET PET approach in clinical applications.
