        The Predictive Value of Pre-therapeutic Serum Gamma-glutamyl transferase in Efficacy and Adverse Reactions to Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy among Breast Cancer Patients

        Purpose: Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) has been reported as being involved in tumor progression. Previous studies documented a potential relationship between serum GGT level and survival outcome in several types of human malignancies. However, the association between serum GGT levels and response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has not yet been reported. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between pre-therapeutic serum GGT level and the efficacy, long-term survival, and adverse reactions of NAC and to investigate its role in predicting NAC sensitivity in patients with breast cancer. Methods: A total of 129 patients were recruited and stratified into 2 groups according to serum GGT level (< 29 U/L and ≥ 29 U/L). The association between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and clinicopathological parameters was examined. The correlation between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and pathological complete response (pCR) was analyzed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Survival analyses of relapse-free survival (RFS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were performed. Pearson's χ2 test and multivariate logistic regression model were used to analyze the correlation between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and adverse reactions. Results: Pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels were associated with pCR among breast cancer patients treated with NAC. Multivariate analysis showed that low-level GGT significantly increased pCR rate. Patients in the high-level GGT group had poorer survival than those in the low-level GGT group. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that serum GGT level was potentially related to RFS and DFS in the hormone receptor-positive group. Low levels of GGT are significantly associated with a higher incidence of neutropenia. Conclusion: Pre-therapeutic serum GGT level is an independent and novel biomarker for predicting the efficiency, prognosis, and adverse reactions to NAC in breast cancer patients. Patients with low pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels are more likely to have higher pCR rates, better RFS and DFS, and higher hematologic toxicity.

        대조분석에 입각한 한국어 연결어미 교육 연구 : ‘-는데’를 중심으로

        In order to teach conjunctive ending effectively, firstly this paper analyses the correspondence relationship between Korean conjunctive ending and the Chinese conjunctive ending, and also puts up a contrast hypothesis aiming at Korean-learners. Secondly, the paper also analyses the grammatical and syntaxic meaning focused on “-는데”,the effective teaching methods based on contrastive analysis has also been discussed. Chinese learners will find it difficult in using the conjunctive ending “-는데” correctly,since the conjunctive ending is similar in grammatical meaning and the learners are easy to be confused. In order to deepen Chinese teachers’ and Korean-learners’ understanding, this paper rearranges the grammatical meaning of “-는데” through background noting and comparing, aiming at reducing Korean-learner’ error frequency and exploring new effective teaching methods.(Beijing International Studies University)

      • 담화표지 ‘뭐’의 의미와 중국어 대응 표현 연구

        This thesis attempts to use the 뭐(what) in two South Korean TV series as the study object and categorize them in regards to semantic features of the discourse markers to analyze the corresponding Chinese forms. 959 sentences related to 뭐 are screened out, among which 358 sentences function as the discourse marker, accounting for 37.3% of the total. As the discourse marker “뭐” expresses a wide variety of semantics, it can be divided into 21 kinds of meanings, such as “dissatisfaction” “refute” and “accusations”. It is not difficult to find the negative expressions of the semantic features of “뭐” that is increasingly grammatical, is greater than the positive expressions, accounting for 66% of the whole. When used as a discourse marker, sometimes it shows the corresponding relationship with the Chinese interrogative word “what”, but it is more closely related with Chinese tone words, sentence intonation, tone (accent), and speed, sometimes it can only be comprehended according to the context. “뭐” is used in a variety of dialogue environments, expressing the rich psychological attitudes and feelings of the speaker, especially in many cases it does not correspond to the Chinese question word “what”. Therefore, the teaching of Korean question words should stress on explaining the psychological attitude of the speaker from the perspective of pragmatics to help students grasp its semantics and usage fully and accurately.

        Effects of Selenizing Modification on Characteristics and Antioxidant Activities of Inonotus obliquus Polysaccharide

        Excessive reactive oxygen species is implicated in the etiology and pathology of many acute and chronic diseases. Selenium acts as an antioxidant and stimulates the creation of more antioxidants. Selenizing modification polysaccharides potentiate the physiological and pharmacological activities of selenium and polysaccharide. In this study, Inonotus obliquus polysaccharide (IOP) extracted from cultured mycelia was modified into Se-IOP by HNO3- Na2SeO3 method. The characteristics and antioxidant activity of IOP and Se-IOP were comparatively investigated. The result showed that polysaccharide content of purified IOP was 98.9%. The selenium content of Se-IOP was 0.71 mg/g. Both IOP and Se-IOP were homogeneous polysaccharides with a molecular weight of 37.354 and 28.071 kDa, respectively depicted in high performance gel permeation chromatogram (HPGPC). Moreover, both IOP and Se- IOP were composed of Man, Glu, and Gal with a molar ratio of 7.7:32.6:23.3 and 8.3:32.1:22.7, respectively determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The characteristic absorption peak of O-Se-O, Se=O and C-O-Se appeared at 1026.75, 772.82, and 652.29 cm-1 respectively in FT-IR spectrum of Se-IOP indicating the success of selenylation. NMR spectrum further confirmed the anomeric carbon signals and chemical shifts in IOP and Se-IOP. These variations induced by selenylation may lead to a higher antioxidant activity of Se-IOP on scavenging hydroxyl, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) and superoxide radical than that of IOP. Furthermore, Se- IOP treatment could also reduce oxidant damage by decreasing the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) and increasing the activities of superoxidedismutase (SOD) and GSH-Px in mice.

        Combination of Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and 11C-Methionine Positron Emission Tomography for the Accurate Diagnosis of Non-Enhancing Supratentorial Glioma

        Objective: To evaluate whether the combination of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and 11C-methionine positron emission tomography (11C-MET PET) could increase accurate diagnostic sensitivity for non-enhancing supratentorial gliomas. Materials and Methods: Between February 2012 and December 2017, 109 patients with non-enhanced supratentorial lesions on contrast-enhanced MRI were enrolled. Each patient underwent MRS and 11C-MET PET before treatment. A lesion was considered to be a glioma when either the MRS or 11C-MET PET results reached the diagnostic threshold. The radiological diagnosis was compared with the pathological diagnosis or medical diagnostic criteria. Results: The sensitivity and specificity were 60.0% and 50.0% for MRS and 75.8% and 50.0% for 11C-MET PET, respectively. Upon combining the two modalities, the sensitivity and specificity of the imaging-based diagnosis prior to surgery reached 89.5% and 42.9%, respectively. Statistically significant differences in the sensitivities were observed between the combined and individual approaches (MRS alone, 89.5% vs. 60.0%, p < 0.001; 11C-MET PET alone, 89.5% vs. 75.8%, p = 0.001). However, no significant differences in specificity were observed between the combined and individual modalities. Conclusion: The combination of MRS and 11C-MET PET findings significantly increases accurate diagnostic sensitivity for nonenhancing supratentorial gliomas without significantly lowering the specificity. This finding suggests the potential of the combined MRS and 11C-MET PET approach in clinical applications.
