The Impact of Play Practice on Chinese Physical Education Pre-Service Teachers Badminton Content Knowledge

        Hairui Liu,Wei Wang,Yaohui He,Peter Hastie 대한운동학회 2020 아시아 운동학 학술지 Vol.22 No.3

[OBJECTIVES] This study examined the development of Chinese pre-service physical education teachers’ technical skill, tactical understanding, game performance (common content knowledge - CCK), and specialized content knowledge (SCK) during a badminton course incorporating Play Practice instruction. [METHODS] Participants were 36 pre-service teachers (31 males, 5 females: age 21 ± 1.0) majoring in physical education at a university in central China. The students completed a 24 lesson course after a 16 weeks semester. A typical lesson (90 minutes) included a 10-minute warm-up, followed by instruction in two or three technical skills or tactics for 50-55 minutes. The final 25-minutes included the Play Practice aspect of the lesson - a specific game-based challenge to reinforce a technical or tactical aspect of badminton play. The challenge included the three typical pedagogies of Play Practice: focusing, shaping, and enhancing. The French clear test, tactical understanding in badminton, Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI), and student-generated content maps were used to respectively monitor changes in technical skills, tactical understanding, game performance, and specialized content knowledge before and after the course. Parametric statistics were used to compare student outcomes. [RESULTS] Statistically significant differences were found on all measures from pre- to post-test, with all showing large effect sizes. In particular, over 75% of students achieved the benchmark depth of SCK following the course. [CONCLUSIONS] The inclusion of Play Practice within a sport instruction course can contribute to various elements that are needed to promote the CCK and SCK of pre-service physical education students.

Informal Trade along the China-North Korea Border

Justin V. Hastings,Yaohui Wang 동아시아연구원 2018 Journal of East Asian Studies Vol.18 No.2

Why do Chinese traders along the China–North Korea border turn to informal trade, and what does it provide for them? Using a unique set of interviews with Chinese formal and informal traders operating in North Korea, we argue that the strategies of informal trade are a calculated response to certain types of risk. In doing so, we introduce a typology of risks and the mechanisms by which informal trade allows traders to mitigate those risks. Because informal traders bypass trade regulations and border checkpoints, they are able to mitigate risk more cheaply than formal traders in some cases and can overcome barriers that can cause failure in formal trade. Informal traders can thus maintain trade in many circumstances, including across North Korean personnel instability and policy reversals, Chinese sanctions enforcement, and delays and smuggling crackdowns on both sides of the border.

A New Interfacial Model for Transverse Mechanical Properties of Unidirectional Fiber Reinforced Composites

        Deng’an Cai,Xiaopei Wang,Yaohui Shi,Xufeng Hao,Yuan Qian,Guangming Zhou 한국섬유공학회 2021 Fibers and polymers Vol.22 No.2

Transverse mechanical properties play an important role in the study of fiber reinforced composite materials. Anexperimental and numerical study on mechanical properties and damage behavior of unidirectional fiber reinforcedcomposites under transverse load is presented. The quasi-static tensile and compressive tests were carried out to obtainmechanical properties of unidirectional fiber reinforced composites under transverse tension and compression. The fracturemorphologies of the specimens were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to reveal their distinct damagemechanism. Considering the effects of interface, a new interfacial model is proposed. Two representative volume elements(RVEs) of basic and interfacial models are established for comparison analysis. The predicted results agree well with theexperimental data. The introduction of interfacial layer has little effect on the prediction of transverse modulus, but canimprove the accuracy of the predicted transverse strength. The fiber volume fraction has a great influence on the transversemechanical properties of unidirectional fiber reinforced composites. As the fiber volume fraction increases, its transversemodulus increases, but both the transverse strength and the ultimate strain decrease.

The Predictive Value of Pre-therapeutic Serum Gamma-glutamyl transferase in Efficacy and Adverse Reactions to Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy among Breast Cancer Patients

        Lu Sun,Wenjin Yin,Ziping Wu,Yaohui Wang,Jinsong Lu 한국유방암학회 2020 Journal of breast cancer Vol.23 No.5

Purpose: Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) has been reported as being involved in tumor progression. Previous studies documented a potential relationship between serum GGT level and survival outcome in several types of human malignancies. However, the association between serum GGT levels and response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has not yet been reported. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between pre-therapeutic serum GGT level and the efficacy, long-term survival, and adverse reactions of NAC and to investigate its role in predicting NAC sensitivity in patients with breast cancer. Methods: A total of 129 patients were recruited and stratified into 2 groups according to serum GGT level (< 29 U/L and ≥ 29 U/L). The association between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and clinicopathological parameters was examined. The correlation between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and pathological complete response (pCR) was analyzed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Survival analyses of relapse-free survival (RFS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were performed. Pearson's χ2 test and multivariate logistic regression model were used to analyze the correlation between pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels and adverse reactions. Results: Pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels were associated with pCR among breast cancer patients treated with NAC. Multivariate analysis showed that low-level GGT significantly increased pCR rate. Patients in the high-level GGT group had poorer survival than those in the low-level GGT group. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that serum GGT level was potentially related to RFS and DFS in the hormone receptor-positive group. Low levels of GGT are significantly associated with a higher incidence of neutropenia. Conclusion: Pre-therapeutic serum GGT level is an independent and novel biomarker for predicting the efficiency, prognosis, and adverse reactions to NAC in breast cancer patients. Patients with low pre-therapeutic serum GGT levels are more likely to have higher pCR rates, better RFS and DFS, and higher hematologic toxicity.

Study on the Kinetic Characteristics of Microbubbles in Cross-Shaped Flow Focusing Microchannels

        Ding Weibing,Yang Qianwen,Zhao Yaohui,Wang Zhaohui,Chen Jie,Wang Hongxia 한국화학공학회 2024 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.41 No.1

To study the mechanism of microbubbles generation in cross-shaped microchannels, numerical simulations of gas–liquid two-phase fl ow in microchannels are carried out in this paper using the volume of fl uid method (VOF). By varying the twophase fl ow rate, three diff erent fl ow regimes were obtained, including dripping regime, slugging regime and threading regime, and the relationship between the two-phase fl ow rate and the fl ow state was plotted. Meanwhile, the phase interface, pressure and velocity of microbubbles in three diff erent fl ow regimes were studied, and the evolution of the gas–liquid interface in microbubbles formation was analyzed. It is found that the microbubbles diameter decreases and the frequency increases as the viscosity of the continuous phase gradually increases. As the wall contact angle decreases, the adhesion of the liquid phase to the wall at the channel interaction increases and the microbubbles diameter increases. The increase in interfacial tension greatly increases the cohesion between molecules on the surface of the gas fl ow, making it diffi cult to achieve force equilibrium, which leads to a reduction in the shear stress required to dominate the interface to break the tip of the gas fl ow and slower bubbles formation, resulting in a larger microbubbles diameter.
