Myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) is an intracellular adaptor protein involved in Toll signaling pathway. In this study, we monitored the response of 4 key genes of the insect immune system against Beauveria bassiana JEF-007 in Tenebrio molitor using RT-PCR. TmGPR, antimicrobial peptide Tenecin 1 and Tenecin 2 were up-regulated after fungal infection. To better understand the roles of Toll signaling pathway in mealworm immune system, TmGRP and TmMyD88 was knocked down by RNAi silencing. Target gene expressions were decreased at 2 days post-dsRNA injection, and dramatically reduced at 6 days post-dsRNA injection. Therefore, mealworms were compromised by B. bassiana JEF-007 at 6 days post-dsRNA injection. Silencing of the TmMyD88 and TmGRP resulted in reducing the resistance of the host to fungal infection. However, only dsTmMyD88 showed significant difference with dsEGFP by statistical analysis, which may be due to partial gene knock down of dsGRP. These results indicate that TmMyD88 is required in mealworms for survival against B. bassiana JEF-007.

Old growth and protected-trees are worth history and culturally in Korea. This research carried out to investigate habitat characterization and the vegetative propagation methods of Salix chaenomeloides(100-600 years old trees) in Gyeongsangnamdo Province. It has been preserved in good and grow naturally in area surrounding village(4 trees), riverside(1 tree) and field(1 tree). Cutting from old growth and protected trees was conducted using 10 kinds of bedsoils. It was survived above 93% in all bedsoils. Growth of cuttings is a distinct difference according to bedsoils and tree ages. Growth of cutting was high on CBS, followed mixed bedsoils (VPMP) including vermiculite, peatmoss and perlite. Root collar diameter was difference depend on tree ages and bedsoils. All trees are produced 1 to 4 branch. Root growth of cutting was 20 cm on CBS and VPMP, which is the best shoot growing on cutting. Bedsoil with physico-chemical characteristics of high moisturizing ability, high air permeability, high EC value and slightly acid may be suitable for efficiently cutting propagation of old growth and protected S. chaenomeloides. CBS and VPMP bedsoil are favorable for propagating this species by cuttings.

The incorporation of microwave irradiation with the prevalent "click chemistry" is currently of considerable synthetic interest. We describe here the introduction of such laboratorial shortcut into carbohydrate-based drug discovery, resulting in the rapid formation of a series of triazole-linked salicylic $\beta$-D-O-glycosides with biological activities. All "clicked" products were achieved in excellent yields ($\approx$ 90%) within only a quarter. In addition, based on the structural characteristics of the afforded glycomimetics, their inhibitory activities were evaluated toward protein tyrosine phosphatases 1B (PTP1B) and a panel of homologous protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs). Docking simulation was also conducted to plausibly propose binding modes of this glycosyl salicylate series with the enzymatic target.

Existing PWM methods suffer from a trade off between zero-sequence circulating current (ZSCC) and line-current ripple, which are two major concerns of two parallel interleaved two-level (2L) voltage-source converters (VSCs). Thus, this paper introduces a novel space vector-based PWM strategy to reduce both line-current ripple and ZSCC. Given the redundancy of the vector combination of two parallel interleaved converters, this paper proposes eight optimal vector sequences, which simultaneously optimizes the ZSCC and the line-current ripple. Then, a carrier-based scheme is applied to yield optimal vector sequences, which simplifies the implementation procedure. Furthermore, this paper quantitatively compares both the ZSCC and the line-current ripple of the proposed method to those of existing PWM schemes. This comparison confirms that the proposed method is superior to existing PWM schemes in terms of current ripple and ZSCC. Finally, experimental results further verify the theoretical analysis and the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

In this review, an attempt is made to calculate one-dimensional (1-D) electron density profiles from experimentally determined (00l) XRD intensities and possible structural models as well in an effort to understand the collective intracrystalline structures of intercalant molecules of two-dimensional (2-D) nanohybrids with heterostructures. 2-D ceramics, including layered metal oxides and clays, have received much attention due to their potential applicability as catalysts, electrodes, stabilizing agents, and drug delivery systems. 2-D nanohybrids based on such layered ceramics with various heterostructures have been realized through intercalation reactions. In general, the physico-chemical properties of such 2-D nanohybrids are strongly correlated with their heterostructures, but it is not easy to solve the crystal structures due to their low crystallinity and high anisotropic nature. However, the powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis method is thought to be the most powerful means of understanding the interlayer structures of intercalant molecules. If a proper number of well-developed (00l) XRD peaks are available for such 2-D nanohybrids, the 1-D electron density along the crystallographic c-axis can be calculated via a Fourier transform analysis to obtain structural information about the orientations and arrangements of guest species in the interlayer space.
Adaptive Control with a Fuzzy Tuner for Cable-based Rehabilitation Robot
Jin Yang,Hang Su,Zhijun Li,Di Ao,Rong Song 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2016 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.14 No.3
Since there are external uncertainties in the environment and the dynamic properties of human arm aretime-varying during movement, it is difficult to achieve good tracking performance during robot-aided rehabilitation. The purpose of this study is to develop an adaptive controller with a fuzzy tuner for a cable-based rehabilitationrobot. The fuzzy tuner can adjust the control parameters according to position error and the change of error, thus thetime-varying control parameters can be optimized by this tuner. To verify the proposed controller, simulation andexperiment studies using the cable-based rehabilitation robot are carried out. The rehabilitation robot is employedto complete two facilitation movements in the experiment. Results show that the adaptive controller can attain bettercontrol performance after tuning the control parameters.

Cadmium (Cd) is one of heavy metals that can be easily absorbed by plant roots, and transported from soil to shoots. The effect of Cd concentration (0~200 μM) on the physiological responses, Cd content of shoot and root, and antioxidant enzymes by oil plants Jatropha curcas (cv. Biji Jarak) were investigated in hydroponics system for two weeks. Stomatal conductance was significantly depressed by Cd treated plants. However, the leaf chlorophyll content was unaffected by Cd treated plants. Cd contents in the roots of Jatropha were accumulated higher than those of shoots. Jatropha treated plants at 100 and 200 μM was found to accumulate more than 100 mg kg-1 of Cd in shoots. Jatropha plants had a high ablity to uptake Cd from soil and transport it from soil to shoot as a Cd hyperaccumulator plant because of plants accumulating more than 100 mg kg-1 of Cd in shoots are considered to define as Cd hyperaccumulator. These results confirm that Jatropha is a suitable candidate for the phytoremediation of high-level cadmium contaminated soils.
Resistance of Cucumber Grafting Rootstock Pumpkin Cultivars to Chilling and Salinity Stresses
Yang Xu,Shi-rong Guo,He Li,Hong-zhu Sun,Na Lu,Sheng Shu,Jin Sun 한국원예학회 2017 원예과학기술지 Vol.35 No.2
Grafting using a pumpkin (Cucurbita sp.) rootstock is an effective way to improve cucumber (Cucumis sativus ) resistance to a combination of chilling and salinity stresses. We evaluated the tolerance of 15 pumpkin cultivars to chilling, salinity, and combined stresses at the germination and seedling stages. Selected plant characteristics, including germination rate, germination potential, germination index, plant height, stem thickness, fresh weight, and dry weight, were analyzed. We used the unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean for cluster analyses to determine the stress tolerance levels of the pumpkin cultivars. The 15 cultivars were divided into three clusters: tolerant, moderately tolerant, and susceptible to stress treatments. The stress tolerances of all cultivars were variable in the germination and seedling stages, and most cultivars were not tolerant to individual treatments of chilling or salinity stresses at both stages. These results suggest that identifying suitable cultivars for use as rootstock during cucumber grafting should involve the evaluation of stress tolerance during different growth stages. Additionally, cultivars tolerant to chilling stress may not be tolerant to salinity stress; therefore, the choice of pumpkin rootstock should depend on where the grafted plant will be grown. Cultivars tolerant to a combination of chilling and salinity stresses may be useful as rootstock for cucumber grafting. Our findings may serve as reference material for choosing appropriate pumpkin rootstocks for cucumber grafting.

<P>The Ga/Zn oxynitride solid solution [(GaN)1-<I>x</I>(ZnO)<I>x</I>] is one of the promising visible light harvesting photocatalysts for overall water splitting. A series of (GaN)1-<I>x</I>(ZnO)<I>x</I> (0.11 ≤ <I>x</I> ≤ 0.33) compounds are synthesized by calcining the carbonate-type Zn/Ga-LDH precursor with and without sodium carbonate flux at 850 °C for 8-14 h under a NH3 gas flow. The solid solutions without flux are determined to be low in crystallinity, but platelike morphology with preferred orientation could be observed. On the other hand, those with flux turn out to be better in crystallinity, and eventually exhibit significantly higher photocatalytic activity for overall water splitting under visible light irradiation than those without flux. In addition, the band gap energies can also be engineered from 2.57 to 2.72 eV by changing a synthetic parameter such as nitridation time. It is, therefore, suggested that the present new approach can offer new opportunities for designing the next generation of photocatalytic systems.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
