        Problems of wastes that pigs produce are increasing rapidly in the hog raising industry nowadays. consequently, the generation volume of excreta also is increasing but most of that is not disposed appropriately and exposed in eco-system therefore the disposal of stock excreta is becoming more and more serious. considering the physical and chemical characteristics of livestock excreta, the pollution loading rate - BOD, COD etc. - is very high. as alternative plan, that is, as one method kind of composisting, the utilization of the soil reformation agent will become one solution in managing the upper problems. also, the flyash of 3.7 million tons are producing every year and about 32.2% of that, 1.18 million ton is recycled as concrete, cement, cementassistance, road etc. consequently, the discharged flyash is not abandoned and a plan of recycling is needed acutely. gypsum of 4.16 million tons in 1998 presently was produced and about 57.2% of that, 2.38 million tons was recycled as cement, construction materials. the present stock is 25 million tons. therefore, in this study, because organic materials can be obtained in pig excreta and calciums can be obtained in gypsum, the small amount of elements can be acquired in flyash for the soil reformation agents, mixing the three materials - pig excreta, gypsum, flyash - adequately, investigated technique of making the soil reformation agents and described below in comparrision with the changes of temperature, PH TOC, T-N, TOC/T-N ratio etc.

      • In-situ fabrication of TiC-Fe<sub>3</sub>Al cermet

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Titanium carbide has high hardness, resistance to oxidation and abrasion while iron aluminide has proper ductility as well as good strength and excellent oxidation resistance up to high temperatures. Therefore, it can be expected TiC-iron aluminide cermet to have excellent mechanical properties as a cutting tool and a wear-resistance material. In this study, mechanical milling and hot press sintering processes were used to manufacture in-situ TiC-Fe<SUB>3</SUB>Al cermet, whose microstructure and mechanical properties were examined according to the changes in volume fraction of TiC and milling time. After 48h of milling each mechanically alloyed powder crystallized in a TiC and Fe<SUB>3</SUB>Al biphasic material. The milled powder was hot-pressed at 1250℃ and 50MPa for 30min to obtain sintered bodies also consisting of only TiC and Fe<SUB>3</SUB>Al phases. The hard phase, TiC, had a size of 100–300nm with overall uniform distribution decreasing as the volume fraction of TiC increased. The hardness of each sintered body showed a linearly increasing tendency according to the increase in TiC content, the hardness for 90vol% TiC cermet being as high as 1813Hv. On the other hand, the bending strength was 1800MPa and 1780MPa when TiC volume fraction was 50% and 70%, respectively, while it showed an abrupt decrease up to 580MPa at 90% TiC volume fraction. Fe<SUB>3</SUB>Al phase is effective to toughening of TiC-Fe<SUB>3</SUB>Al cermet and the volume fraction of Fe<SUB>3</SUB>Al phase significantly influences the bending strength of the cermet.</P>

      • 優良室素固定菌의 探索分離 및 生理的 特性

        This experiment was conducted to search for Rhizobia with good nitrogen fixation abilities and to investigate their physiological characteristics isolated from 12 soybean cultivars and the affinities of root nodule bacteria with soybeans. The results obtained were as follows ; Based on colors, Rhizobia grown on YMA medium were divided into 3 groups, i. e., white, translucent and transparent, amounting to 60, 30 and 10%, respectively. In litmus milk reation, the strains which produced alkali, acid serum, alkaline serum and acid reached to 51, 29, 9 and 11%, respectively. Strains, S022, and S096 were slow-growers and produced alkaili, while strains, S080, S090, and S118 were fastgrowers and produced acid. The growth of root nodule bacteria on YMA medium was favorable between the initial pHs of 6.0~7.0. Glutamine, asparagine and allantoin as nitrogen sources enhanced the growth of root nodule bacteria. All the strains tested formed nodules on the soybean roots, and the strains with good symbiotic nitrogen fixation abilities that had white color, small colony, nitrate reduction abilities and no nitrite reduction abilities showed comparatively high nitrogen fixing activities. Some strains varied in nitrogen fixing activities according to soybean cultivars, and a few strains formed ineffective nodules which showed no nitrogen fixing activity.

        열성경련과 열성경련플러스(GEFS+)에서 GABRG2의 단일염기다형성

        목 적 : 열성경련은 불완전한 침투를 보이는 상영색체우성 질환으로 이질적인 표현형을 특징으로 한다. 최근에 열성경련과 특발성 전신간질을 보이는 가계와 소아기의 결신발작과 열성경련이 동반된 가계에서 독립적으로 γ-aminobutyric acid(GABA)receptor γ2 subunit gene(GABRG2)에 돌연변이가 있는 것이 밝혀졌다. 본 연구는 한국의 열성경련 환아와 GEFS+ 환아에서 GABRG2 유전자의 다형성이 질환의 감수성에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 시도되었다. 방 법 : 가톨릭대학교 의정부성모병원 및 성모자애병원 소아과에서 진단받은 열성경련 환아 66명, GEFS+ 환아 20명 및 건강한 대조군 94명, 총 180명을 대상으로 하였다. GABRG2의 SNP211037은 DHPLC를 이용하여 분석하였다. 이후 DHPLC에서 변이를 보인 DNA조각에 대해서는 염기서열법을 시행하였다. 세 군에서 GABRG2유전자 다형성의 유전형 분포와 대립유전자 빈도를 비교하였다. 결 과 : 열성경련 환아에서 GABRG2(SNP211037)-CC유전자형을 가진 소아의 수는 건강한 대조군에 비하여 통계적으로 의의 있게 많았다. 열성경련 환아에서 GABRG2(SNP211037)-C 대립유전자 빈도가 건강한 대조군에 비하여 통계적으로 의의 있게 높았다. GABRG2(SNP211037)-CC 유전자형을 가진 소아에서 열성경련으로 발전할 수 있는 교차비(odds ratio)는 GABRG2(SNP211037)-TT 유전자형을 가진 소아에 비하여 5.96배 높았다(P<0.001). 반면에 GEFS+환아에서 GABRG2(SNP211037) 유전자 분포는 건강한 대조군과 통계학적으로 의의있는 차이가 없었다. 결 론 : 이러한 결과는 GABRG2의 유전체 변이가 한국의 열성경련에 감수성을 일으키는 인자의 하나가 될 수 있음을 시사하는 것이다. Purpose : Febrile seizures are characterized by a heterogenous phenotype segregating as an autosomal dominant trait with incomplete penetrance. Mutations in GABRG2 gene were identified in two families with generalized epilepsy and febrile seizures plus(GEFS+) and with absence epilepsy and febrile seizures(FSs). The present study assessed the role of GABRG2 gene in FSs and GEFS+ of the Korean population. Methods :66 FSs, 20 GEFS+ and 94 healthy control subjects were selected throughout a collaborative study of Catholic Child Neurology Research Group. The SNP211037 of GABRG2 was screened by DHPLC. DNA fragments showing variant chromatograms were subsequently sequenced. Genotypes and allelic frequencies for GABRG2 gene polymorphism in three groups were compared. Results : The number of individuals with the GABRG2(SNP211037)-C/C genotype in patients with FSs was significantly greater compared with that in healthy control subjects and the GABRG2(SNP211037)-C allele frequency in patients with FSs was significantly higher than that in healthy control subjects. The odds ratio for developing FSs in individuals with the GABRG2(SNP211037)-CC genotype was 5.96 compard with individuals with the GABRG2(SNP211037)-T/T genotype. In contrast, the GABRG2(SNP211037) gene in GEFS+ and control groups was not significantly different. Conclusion : theses data suggest that genomic variations of GABRG2 might be one of the susceptibility factors for FSs in the Korean population.

        Matrix Pencil Method 기반의 부엽차단기 성능분석 연구

        In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for the performance analysis of the sidelobe blanker (SLB) in radar system, which is based on the matrix pencil method (MPM). In general, the SLB in radar is composed of the main antenna, the auxiliary antenna, and the processing unit. The auxiliary antenna with wide beamwidth receives interference signals such as jamming or clutter signals. The main antenna with high gain receives the target signal in the main beam and the interference signals in the sidelobe. In this paper the Swerling model is used as the target echo signal by considering a probabilistic radar cross section (RCS) of the target. To estimate the SLB performance it needs to calculate the probability of target detection and the probability of blanking the interference by using the signals received from the main and auxiliary antennas. The detection probability and the blanking probability include multiple summations of infinite series with infinite integrations, of which convergence rate is very slow. Increase of summation range to improve the calculation accuracy may lead to an overflow error in computer simulations. In this paper, to resolve the above problems, we used the MPM to calculate a summation of infinite series and improved the calculation accuracy and the convergence rate.

        혼합 생균제 급여가 거세한우의 성장, 혈액성상 및 육질에 미치는 영향

        In this study, the effect of probiotic supplementation on growth performance, blood metabolites, and meat quality of Hanwoo steer was investigated. A total of 32 Hanwoo steers (15-17 months, average body weight 462±37.9 kg) were randomly allotted to 4 dietary treatments (0, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5% mixed probiotics), with four Hanwoo steers per pen (two replicates per treatments), and reared for 12 months. There were no differences among treatments in growth performance of Hanwoo steer (P>0.05); however, feed intake decreased linearly with increasing levels of mixed probiotics. Growth hormone and Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) levels responded linearly with increasing levels of dietary mixed probiotics (P<0.05), but not insulin and blood glucose did not. In particular, total cholesterol was significantly lower for the 1% mixed probiotic treatment in comparison with that of the other treatments (P<0.05). The pH, Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances (TBARS), cooking loss, and meat color were influenced by increasing levels of mixed probiotics (P<0.05), but the carcass characteristics and shear force were not. Regarding sensory evaluation, the addition of mixed probiotics resulted in significant difference in meat color, tenderness, aroma, off-flavor, juiciness, and marbling score, but not in overall acceptability. In addition, fatty acid profiles indicated no differences between control and mixed probiotic treatments. In conclusion, mixed probiotic treatment at 1% levels can enhance consumer preferences possibly by reducing cholesterol and TBARS.

        Spectroscopic Studies on Electroless Deposition of Copper on Hydrogen-Terminated Si(111) Surface in NH<sub>4</sub>F Solution Containing Cu(II) Ions

        The electroless deposition of copper on the hydrogen-terminated Si(111) surface was investigated by means of attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The hydrogen-terminated Si(111) surface prepared was stable under air atmosphere for a day or more. It was found from ATR-FTIR that two bands centered at 2000 and 2260 $cm^{-1}$ appeared after the H-Si(111) surface was immersed in 40% $NH_4F$ solution containing 10 mM $Cu^{2+}$. On the other hand, STM image included the copper islands with a height of 5 nm and a diameter of 10-20 nm. The EDS data displayed the presence of copper, silicon and oxygen species. The results were rationalized in terms of the redox reaction of surface Si atoms and $Cu^{2+}$ ions in solutions, which are changed into $Si(OH)_x(F)_y$ containing $SiF_6^{2-}$ ions and neutral copper islands.

      • Effect of Prenatal Thyroxine and Dexamethasone Administration on the Lung Surfactant Production in Premature Rats

        This study was performed to determine the effects of prenatal thyroxine and dexamethasone administration on the fetal body weight, lung weight, lung protein content and disaturated phosphatidylcholine, major component of surfactant, in premature rats. Dexamethasone administration (400 and 800 ㎍/kg) resulted in significant decreases in fetal body weight, lung weight, lung protein content compared to control rats. Thyroxine administration (10 ㎍) resulted in significant increases in fetal lung protein content compared to centro1 rats. Thyroxine (5 and 10 ㎍) and dexamethasone (400 and 800 ㎍/kg). resulted in significant increases in fetal lung disaturated phosphatidylcholine content compared to control rats. And simultaneous thyroxine and dexamethasone treatment had more pronounced stimulating effect on fetal lung disaturated phosphatidylcholine content than each thyroxine and dexamethasone treatment with the same dose. These results suggested that simultanous thyroxine and dexamethasone administration had synergistic effect on fetal lung disaturated phosphatidylcholine production and could minimize the decreases of fetal body weight, lung weight and lung protein content induced by administration of dexamethasone in the premature rats.

        피로 치근파절 치아의 분석

        True vertical root fracture (VRF) in nonendodontically treated teeth confined to the root surface (fatigue root fracture; FRF) is apparently uncommon, the few documented reports being Chinese. The aim of this study is to analyze the cases of a fatigue root fracture and to find out the characteristic features of teeth with a FRF. A total of 21 consecutive cases of fatigue root fracture occurring in 16 patients were reviewed. In terms of the occlusion, the presence of restorations, the location, the age and gender, each tooth and patient were analyzed. The prevalent age was in those over 50 years of age (75%) and FRFs were more frequent in male patients (69%). Fatigue root fractures occurred most frequently in the mandibular molars (61.9%; 42.9% in first molar, 19% in second molar). Fatigue root fractures were observed most frequently in the teeth with no restorations (85.7%) and in the patients with occlusal problems (94%). FRFs seem to occur frequently and may represent an undiagnosed clinical entity deserving of our attention.

        Application of Artificial Insemination Technology for Dairy Breeding in Mongolia

        This study was focused on improvement of milk production in Mongolian dairy industry by artificial insemination (AI) technology, supported by ODA of KOICA in Republic of Korea. This program was started in January 2009 and it is in years. This manuscript summarized the data especially on estrus synchronization and pregnancy establishment in dairy cows (Holstein) this year. A total of 81 dairy cows from 4 private farms (38 from Undarmal milk and that of 30, 8 and 5 dairy cows from Onjin (Enkhbayer), Jargalant, and BRM School farms respectively) were synchronized with 5 ml Lutalyse (i.m.) in the dump of dairy cows and then estrus was detected 2 to 3 days after injection. The synchronized dairy cows were inseminated with 0.5 ml dairy frozen semen by conventional artificial insemination (AI) techniques. Pregnancy was diagnosed about 60 days after AI by palpation method. About 96.3% (78/81) of synchronized cows were responded to single injection. Total 75 over 78 dairy cows (90.1%) inseminated were diagnosed as pregnant. The estrus induction and pregnancy rates were very effective using Lutalyse injection and conventional AI techniques in Mongolian dairy cow. The present results indicated that AI after estrus induction in Mongolian dairy cows could be applied to dairy breeding technology for improving breeding efficiency and milk production of the country.
