<P>S100 calcium-binding protein A4 (S100A4) induces proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). We aimed to find the microRNA regulating S100A4 expression. S100A4 transcripts are abruptly increased in the acute phase of carotid arterial injury 1 day later (at day 1) but gradually decreases at days 7 and 14. Bioinformatics analysis reveals that miR-124 targets S100A4. VSMC survival is attenuated by miR-124 mimic but increased by miR-124 inhibitor. miR-124 decreases immediately after carotid arterial injury but dramatically increases at days 7 and 14. miR-124 inhibitor-induced cell proliferation is blocked by S100A4 siRNA, whereas miR-124-induced cell death is recovered by S100A4. Our findings suggest that miR-124 is a novel regulator of VSMC proliferation and may play a role in the development of neointimal proliferation.</P>
한국 농촌거주 정상인의 Leptospira Interrogans에 대한 항체보유율 현황

It has been well known that leptospiroisis is a one of the prevailing acute febrile diseases in Korea. In order to find out the incidence of past infection of L. interrogans among normal population, a total of 1,171 sera obtained from rural residents and tested by microscopic agglutination test. All of normal resident's sera were collected during July in 1987, just before epidemic season, at Keochang county(248 sera), at Wanju county(145 sera), at Wonseoung county(255 sera), at Cholwon county(411 sera) and at Kongju county(112 sera). Seropositive rate against L. interrogans among rural residents was 12.0% and ranged from 2.7% in Kongju county to 18.5% in Cholwon county. There was a higher seropositive rate in males and the majority of seropositives occurred in the age group over 30 yesrs. Icterohaemorrhagiae was a most commonly reacting serotype of L. interrogans and followed by CH-48 and Canicola. The sera reacted with Cynopteri, Ballum, Australis, and Pyrogenes were present also.

To examine the efficiency of nuclear transplantation the influence of electrical preactivation of recipient cytoplasm on the in vitro developmental potentyl in the nuclear transplant rabbit embryos were evaluated. The embryos of 16-cell stage were collected and synchronized to G₁phase of 32-cell stage. The recipient cytoplasms were obtained by removing the first polar body and chromosome mass by non-disruptive microsurgery procedure. The separated G₁phase blastomeres of 32-cell stage were out into the non-preactivated and/or the preactivated recipient cytoplasm by electrical stimulation. After culture until 20h post-hCG injection, the nuclear transplant oocytes were electrofused. The fused nuclear transplant embryos were co-cultured with rabbit oviduct for 120h, the nuclear transplant embryos developed to blastocyst stage were stained with Hoechst 33342 and their blastomere were counted. The electrofision rate was similar to the non-preactivated and preactivated recipient cytoplasm(81.8 and 85.7%, respectively). However, the in vitro developmental rate to blastocyst stage with the non-preactivated recipient cytoplasm(163.7cells), as compared with the preactivated recipient cytoplasm(85.4 cells). These results considered better that non-preactivated oocytes, MⅡ phase oocytes, were used for recipient cytoplasms in the rabbit nuclear transplant procedure.

<P>Background and Objective: </P><P>The cellular response of human gingival fibroblasts to a mechanical force is considered to be primarily anti-osteoclastic because they produce relatively high levels of osteoprotegerin. However, there is little information available on the effects of compression force on the production of osteoprotegerin and osteoclastic differentiation by these cells. In this study, we examined how mechanical force affects the nature of human gingival fibroblasts to produce osteoprotegerin and inhibit osteoclastogenesis.</P><P>Material and Methods: </P><P>Human gingival fibroblasts were exposed to mechanical force by centrifugation for 90 min at a magnitude of approximately 50 g/cm<SUP>2</SUP>. The levels of osteoprotegerin, receptor activator of nuclear factor-&kgr;B ligand (RANKL), interleukin-1&bgr; and tumor necrosis factor-&agr; were measured at various time-points after applying the force. The effect of the centrifugal force on the formation of osteoclast-like cells was also determined using a co-culture system of human gingival fibroblasts and bone marrow cells.</P><P>Results: </P><P>Centrifugal force stimulated the expression of osteoprotegerin, RANKL, interleukin-1&bgr; and tumor necrosis factor-&agr; by the cells, and produced a relatively high osteoprotegerin to RANKL ratio at the protein level. Both interleukin-1&bgr; and tumor necrosis factor-&agr; accelerated the force-induced production of osteoprotegerin, which was inhibited significantly by the addition of anti-(interleukin-1&bgr;) immunoglobulin Ig isotype; IgG (rabbit polyclonal). However, the addition of anti-(tumor necrosis factor-&agr;) immunoglobulin Ig isotype; IgG1 (mouse monoclonal) had no effect. Centrifugal force also had an inhibitory effect on osteoclast formation.</P><P>Conclusion: </P><P>Application of centrifugal force to human gingival fibroblasts accelerates osteoprotegerin production by these cells, which stimulates the potential of human gingival fibroblasts to suppress osteoclastogenesis. Overall, human gingival fibroblasts might have natural defensive mechanisms to inhibit bone resorption induced by a mechanical stress.</P>

The output of solar array is changed non-linearly by variation of insolation and temperature. Hence, as varying insolation and temperature, Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) is necessary to increase generation efficiency of solar array. This paper presented MPPT algorithm using position control of output voltage and current of solar array and implemented hardware MPP tracker which is appropriate and inexpensive for low power system(ten s~hundreds watt). Finally, those were verified through simulation.

We measured transmittance of an amorphous As₂S₃ thin film for visible region (450-820 nm) by using a spectrophotometer. The interference effect by multiple by multiple reflection of thin film makes periodic oscillations between a maxima and minima value to the spectrum of the transmittance by comparing the thin film theory with the experimets. We calculated the refractive index n and the thickness d of the amorphous As₂S₃ thin film.

1. 고온, Hydrogen Attack, 펄라이트 분해(메탄반응) 2. 저온, Hydrogen Embrittlement, Delayed 균열 3. 응력/부식, Hydrogen Stress Corrosion, S/CI 집적동반 수소취성을 대하며 첫 번째 결정은 이것을 손상분류체계 중 어디에 속하게 할 것인가 이었는데, 비교적 큰 갈등 없이 사용상>피로/부식/고온 분류 중 부식에 넣는다. 고전적인 부식은 틈새/갈바닉/응력-부식/입계예민화/피트/마식/염기성부식의 7개 분야로 나눌 수 있는데, 여기에 특별히 “수소취성” 부식을 여덟 번째로 더하는 것이다. 아주 잦지는 않지만 그래도 종종 손상진단 사건들에서 수소취성 관련 의심 증거들이 나타난다. 그런데 사실 손상진단 현장에서 자신 있게 수소취성을 원인으로 내세우는 것은 실험적인 증거가 미약하여 쉽지 않다. 이것은 원자번호 1번인 작은 수소(분자 또는 이온형태)가 금속과 어떤 작용을 하는 가에 대한 분석이 어렵기 때문이다. 본 연구는 수소취성을 종합 정리해 보고자한 것이다. 우선 온도에 따른 반응기구별 분류를 하였는데, 잘 밝혀보지 않은 것은 부식관련 기구로 마지막 분류체계에 넣었다. 이와 같은 분류체계가 수소취성의 “The best”일지는 확신할 수 없다. 하지만 현장에서 종종 의심되는 수소취성의 손상사건들을 인단 정형화된 분류 틀에 넣어 진단 논리를 단순화할 필요가 크다.
