Nonparaxial Propagation of Rotating Cosh-Gaussian Beams

        Dongmei Deng,Xi Peng,Chidao Chen,Bo Chen,Yulian Peng,Meiling Zhou 한국물리학회 2015 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.66 No.5

Starting from the inhomogeneous Helmholtz equation, we obtain the exact rotating Cosh-Gaussian vector potential solution oriented along the propagation axis (i.e., the z axis). The electricand the magnetic fields are both expressed in terms of rotating Cosh-Gaussian beams (RCGBs) thatare rigorous solutions to Maxwell’s equations. The paraxial and the nonparaxial RCGBs have aninherent rotating property in that the angular velocity decreases with increasing the propagationdistance. The evolution of the Poynting vector of the RCGBs is analyzed as they propagate in freespace.

      • Face Recognition Using Plurality Voting and Collaborative Representation based on the Bit-plane Information

Dongmei Wei,Weidong Zhou 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.8 No.4

As a new representation technique, collaboration representation is used to represent the test sample with all training samples from all classes. Plurality voting is one of the most widely used combination strategies in pattern recognition. This paper presents a new and an efficient face recognition approach using plurality voting and collaboration representation based on the binary bit-plane images. First, face gray images are equalized and decomposed. Next, employing collaboration representation and the corresponding five bit-plane images which have more discrimination information, five identities about the same test image can be obtained. Finally, these five identities vote to the true identity of the test image. If the plurality voting fails, the true identity of the test image will be decided by virtual weight sum face images constructed by 8 bit-plane images with collaboration representation. Weight vector, which is important for the virtual images, is determined by the recognition rate and the order of bit planes. The extensive experiments demonstrate the proposed approach has the higher right recognition accuracy and its speed is faster than the SRC prominently.

Linking the gut microbiota to persistent symptoms in survivors of COVID-19 after discharge

        Zhou Yaya,Zhang Jianchu,Zhang Dongmei,Ma Wan-Li,Wang Xiaorong 한국미생물학회 2021 The journal of microbiology Vol.59 No.10

Several follow-up studies have found that COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) patients had persistent symptoms after discharge. Gut microbiota play an important role in human health and immune responses. Therefore, this study investigated the gut microbiota of recovered COVID-19 patients and the correlations between gut microbiota and persistent symptoms after discharge. Stool samples were collected from 15 recovered healthcare workers (HCWs) with COVID-19 at three months after discharge, in addition, stool samples were collected from 14 healthy controls (HCs) to perform 16S rRNA gene sequencing between May and July 2020. Compared with HCs, recovered HCWs had reduced bacterial diversity at three months after discharge, with a significantly higher relative abundance of opportunistic pathogens, and a significantly lower relative abundance of beneficial bacteria. In addition, Escherichia unclassified was positively correlated with persistent symptoms at three months after discharge, including fatigue (r = 0.567, p = 0.028), chest tightness after activity (r = 0.687, p = 0.005), and myalgia (r = 0.523, p = 0.045). Intestinibacter bartlettii was positively correlated with anorexia (r = 0.629, p = 0.012) and fatigue (r = 0.545, p = 0.036). However, Faecalibacterium prausnitzii was negatively correlated with chest tightness after activity (r = -0.591, p = 0.02), and Intestinimonas butyriciproducens was negatively correlated with cough (r = -0.635, p = 0.011). In conclusion, the gut microbiota of recovered HCWs with COVID-19 at three months after discharge was different from that of HCs, and altered gut microbiota was correlated with persistent symptoms after discharge, highlighting that gut microbiota may play an important role in the recovery of patients with COVID-19.

Potential implications of hydrogen peroxide in the pathogenesis and therapeutic strategies of gliomas

        Ying Zhou,Long Wang,Chaojia Wang,Yilin Wu,Dongmei Chen,Tae Ho Lee 대한약학회 2020 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.43 No.2

Glioma is the most common type of primarybrain tumor, and it has a high mortality rate. Currently, there are only a few therapeutic approaches for gliomas, andtheir effects are unsatisfactory. Therefore, uncovering thepathogenesis and exploring more therapeutic strategies forthe treatment of gliomas are urgently needed to overcomethe ongoing challenges. Cellular redox imbalance has beenshown to be associated with the initiation and progression ofgliomas. Among reactive oxygen species (ROS), hydrogenperoxide (H2O2) is considered the most suitable for redoxsignaling and is a potential candidate as a key moleculethat determines the fate of cancer cells. In this review, wediscuss the potential cellular and molecular roles of H2O2in gliomagenesis and explore the potential implications ofH2O2in radiotherapy and chemotherapy and in the ongoingchallenges of current glioma treatment. Moreover, we evaluateH2O2as a potential redox sensor and potential driver molecule of nanocatalytic therapeutic strategies for gliomatreatment.

Gut Microbiota Dysbiosis Correlates With Long COVID-19 at One-Year After Discharge

        Zhang Dongmei,Zhou Yaya,Ma Yanling,Chen Ping,Tang Jian,Yang Bohan,Li Hui,Liang Mengyuan,Xue YuE,Liu Yao,Zhang Jianchu,Wang Xiaorong 대한의학회 2023 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.38 No.15

Background: Long coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in recovered patients (RPs) is gradually recognized by more people. However, how long it will last and the underlining mechanism remains unclear. Methods: We conducted a prospective follow-up study to evaluate the long-term symptoms and clinical indices of RPs at one-year after discharge from Union Hospital, Wuhan, China between December 2020 to May 2021. We also performed the 16S rRNA sequencing of stool samples from RPs and healthy controls (HCs) and analyzed the correlation between the gut microbiota and long COVID-19. Results: In total, 187 RPs were enrolled, among them, 84 (44.9%) RPs reported long COVID-19 symptoms at one-year after discharge. The most common long-term symptoms were cardiopulmonary symptoms, including chest tightness after activity (39/187, 20.9%), palpitations on exercise (27/187, 14.4%), sputum (21/187, 11.2%), cough (15/187, 8.0%) and chest pain (13/187, 7.0%), followed by systemic symptoms including fatigue (34/187, 18.2%) and myalgia (20/187, 10.7%), and digestive symptoms including constipation (14/187, 7.5%), anorexia (13/187, 7.0%), and diarrhea (8/187, 4.3%). Sixty-six (35.9%) RPs presented either anxiety or depression (42/187 [22.8%] and 53/187 [28.8%] respectively), and the proportion of anxiety or depression in the long symptomatic group was significantly higher than that in the asymptomatic group (41/187 [50.6%] vs. 25/187 [24.3%]). Compared with the asymptomatic group, scores of all nine 36-Item Short Form General Health Survey domains were lower in the symptomatic group (all P < 0.05). One hundred thirty RPs and 32 HCs (non-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infected subjects) performed fecal sample sequencing. Compared with HCs, symptomatic RPs had obvious gut microbiota dysbiosis including significantly reduced bacterial diversities and lower relative abundance of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs)-producing salutary symbionts such as Eubacterium_hallii_group, Subdoligranulum, Ruminococcus, Dorea, Coprococcus, and Eubacterium_ventriosum_group. Meanwhile, the relative abundance of Eubacterium_hallii_group, Subdoligranulum, and Ruminococcus showed decreasing tendencies between HCs, the asymptomatic group, and the symptomatic group. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the presence of long COVID-19 which correlates with gut microbiota dysbiosis in RPs at one-year after discharge, indicating gut microbiota may play an important role in long COVID-19.

Guo, Li,Zhou, Dongmei,Chen, Yang,Huy, Ratanak Asian Society for Innovation and Policy 2015 Asian Journal of Innovation and Policy Vol.4 No.3

Nowadays, crowdfunding presents a promising development. This research focuses on the influence of platform strategy and market response on the success of crowdfunding from the perspective of the elaboration likelihood model (ELM) theory. Detailed product specifications, crowdfunding difficulty coefficient, vivid advertising video such as introduction and music, and recommendations from relevant figures are all used to depict platform strategy. Meanwhile, we use the number of lovers, followers, comments and 1 RMB backers to measure the level of market response. And thus, we model the impact of platform strategy and market response on crowdfunding success with empirical studies based on 400 samples of observed value. We found firstly that there exist significant positive relations between the total amount of funds pledged and detailed product specification, vivid advertising video, recommendations from relevant figures and the number of 1 RMB backers. Secondly, the crowdfunding difficulty of projects affects negatively, and significantly, the total amount of funds pledged. Thirdly, the influence of the number of lovers and followers on funds pledged is not significant.

Comparison of Bypass Surgery with Drug-Eluting Stents in Diabetic Patients with Left Main Coronary Stenosis

        Xiaoxiao Zhao,Yujie Zhou,Hui Song,Like Guan,Guanbin Zheng,Zhehu Jin,Dongmei Shi,Yuzi Li,Yonghe Guo,Guo-Ping Shi,Xian Wu Cheng 연세대학교의과대학 2011 Yonsei medical journal Vol.52 No.6

Purpose: Several studies have compared the effects of coronary stenting and coronary-artery bypass grafting (CABG) on left main coronary artery (LMCA) disease. However, there are limited data on the long-term outcomes of these two interventions in diabetic patients. Materials and Methods: We evaluated 56 patients with LMCA stenosis who underwent drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation and 116 patients who underwent CABG in a single hospital in China between January 2004 and December 2006. We compared long-term major adverse cardiac events (death; a “serious outcome” composite of death, myocardial infarction, or stroke; and target-vessel revascularization). Results: In-hospital (30-day) mortality was 0% for the DES group and 3.4% for the CABG group (p=0.31). There was no difference between the two groups in terms of risk of death [hazard ratio for stenting group, 0.49; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.13-1.63; p=0.55] or risk of serious outcome (hazard ratio for DES group, 1.11; 95% CI, 0.39-1.45; p=0.47). The target-vessel revascularization rate was higher in the DES group than in the CABG group (hazard ratio, 3.67; 95% CI, 1.24-11.06; p=0.018). Conclusion: In this cohort of diabetic patients with LMCA stenosis, there was no difference in composite endpoints between patients receiving DESs and those undergoing CABG. However, stenting was associated with higher rates of target-vessel revascularization than CABG. DES implantation in diabetic patients with LMCA disease was found to be at least as safe as CABG.

Complete genome sequence and pathogenic genes analysis of Pectobacterium atroseptica JG10-08

        Dai Zhang,Yuan Zhou,Dongmei Zhao,Zhihui Yang,Mingming Zhu,Jiehua Zhu 한국유전학회 2017 Genes & Genomics Vol.39 No.9

Pectobacterium atroseptica is known as a rod-shaped gram-negative bacterial pathogen associated with the blackleg of potato. P. atroseptica has been widely identified as the predominant agent causing tuber rot in temperate regions, a disease that leads to severe economic losses to potato industry. In this study, we provide the complete genome sequence of P. atroseptica JG10-08, which revealed that P. atroseptica strain JG10-08 carries a single 5,004,926 bp chromosome with 51.15% G+C content and harbors 4252 predicted coding genes. Phylogenetic analysis based on the genome sequences showed a close evolutionary relationship between P. atroseptica and Pectobacterium wasabiae. We discovered total 168 genes were potentially related to pathogenesis including 9 strainspecific genes encoding toxins on the genome of JG10-08. Further comparison with other species in Pectobacterium revealed a better understanding of pathogenic factors, especially secretion systems in P. atroseptica JG10-08. Collectively, the results of this research provide a solid foundation for discovering the underlying pathogenic mechanisms of P. atroseptica and offer the information to develop more effective strategies against blackleg of potatoes.

Association of Alexithymia With Positive Symptoms in Chinese Chronic Schizophrenia Patients With and Without Obesity

        Yang Tian,Huixia Zhou,Dongmei Wang,Xiangyang Zhang 대한신경정신의학회 2023 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.20 No.8

Objective A growing body of research suggests the presence of alexithymia (a form of social cognitive impairment) in patients with schizophrenia (SCZ), which may be related to their psychopathological symptoms. Patients with SCZ exhibit high rates of obesity. Interestingly, studies of the general population have found that alexithymia acts a pivotal role in the development and maintenance of obesity. However, little is known regarding the relationship between obesity, alexithymia, and clinical symptoms in SCZ patients. The study was aim to explore the relationship between obesity, alexithymia, and clinical symptoms in SCZ patients. Methods Demographic and clinical data were collected from 507 patients with chronic SCZ. Their symptoms were assessed with the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), and alexithymia was assessed with the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS).Results Compare with nonobese SCZ patients, obese SCZ patients scored higher on PANSS positive symptoms, TAS total score, difficulty identifying feelings, and difficulty describing feelings (all p<0.05). Correlation analysis revealed a significant association between difficulty identifying feelings and positive symptoms in SCZ patients. Further correlation analysis showed that this association was only present in obese SCZ patients (p<0.05).Conclusion Obesity may moderate the association between alexithymia and positive symptoms in chronic SCZ patients.
