        Combination Analysis of PCDHGA12 and CDO1 DNA Methylation in Bronchial Washing Fluid for Lung Cancer Diagnosis

        Background: When suspicious lesions are observed on computer-tomography (CT), invasive tests are needed to confirm lung cancer. Compared with other procedures, bronchoscopy has fewer complications. However, the sensitivity of peripheral lesion through bronchoscopy including washing cytology is low. A new test with higher sensitivity through bronchoscopy is needed. In our previous study, DNA methylation of PCDHGA12 in bronchial washing cytology has a diagnostic value for lung cancer. In this study, combination of PCDHGA12 and CDO1 methylation obtained through bronchial washing cytology was evaluated as a diagnostic tool for lung cancer. Methods: A total of 187 patients who had suspicious lesions in CT were enrolled. PCDHGA12 methylation test, CDO1 methylation test, and cytological examination were performed using 3-plex LTE-qMSP test. Results: Sixty-two patients were diagnosed with benign diseases and 125 patients were diagnosed with lung cancer. The sensitivity of PCDHGA12 was 74.4% and the specificity of PCDHGA12 was 91.9% respectively. CDO1 methylation test had a sensitivity of 57.6% and a specificity of 96.8%. The combination of both PCDHGA12 methylation test and CDO1 methylation test showed a sensitivity of 77.6% and a specificity of 90.3%. The sensitivity of lung cancer diagnosis was increased by combining both PCDHGA12 and CDO1 methylation tests. Conclusion: Checking DNA methylation of both PCDHGA12 and CDO1 genes using bronchial washing fluid can reduce the invasive procedure to diagnose lung cancer.

      • A Study on the Water Quality of Indoor Swimming Pools and Waterscape Facilities

        Waterscape facilities and swimming pools are popular spaces for leisure and exercise. In particular, in the case of waterscape facilities, the number of new apartment buildings and park sites has increased, and indoor swimming pools have become leisure facilities that many people enjoy due to the increase in the number of users because of the activation of sports-for-all. For these facilities, clean water quality control is most important because tap water and underground water come into direct contact with the human body. A survey of 200 samples of swimming pools showed that no P. aeruginosa and E. coli were detected, but the nonconformity rate due to free residual chlorine and combined residual chlorine was 6.5%. Since there is a high possibility of contamination by users, it is necessary to set the measurement cycle of free residual chlorine and combined residual chlorine for clean water quality management. A water quality analysis result of waterscape facilities showed that no P. aeruginosa were detected. But P. luteola was detected once in the early stages of operation in the stream type with slow water flow and low water depth, and was not detected again after disinfection treatment. B. cepacia was detected once in the waterfall fountain and twice in the stream. The nonconformity rate of E. coli was 5% for waterfall fountain, 19% for stream and 6% for general fountain. Due to the nature of the facility, the free residual chlorine was quickly consumed by the water's aeration and turbulent action. In this study, the concentration of free residual chlorine decreased to 0 mg/L in about two days, the disinfection effect is reduced, more than two times a week is needed.

      • Lung Cancer P-001 : Particulate Matter Less than 10μm (PM10) Activates the CYP1A1, CYP1B1, LINC01816, and BPIFA2 in Lung Epithelial Cells

        Particulate matter (PM) has various systemic effects, such as respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, as well as having effects on the nervous systems. So far, there have been many epidemiologic studies, but studies related to the biological mechanisms are insufficient. We researched the effects of PM on lung epithelial cells with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and validated this with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). We cultured the group treated with PM10 at a concentration of 50μg/mL and the untreated group for seven days in five lung cell lines: NCI-H358, HCC-827, A549, NCI-H292, BEAS-2B. Then, we extracted the RNA from the sample and performed NGS. As a result of NGS, various gene expressions were upregulated or downregulated. Among them, we selected the gene whose mean fold change was more than doubled and changed in the same direction in all five cell lines. Based on these genes, we selected the top 10 genes, either upregulated or downregulated, to validate with the qRT-PCR. There were the four genes that matched the NGS and qRT-PCR Results, all of which were upregulated genes(Table 1). The four genes are CYP1A1, CYP1B1, LINC01816, and BPIFA2. All four genes that matched the two Results were up-regulated genes and none of the down-regulated genes matched. CYP1A1 and CYP1B1 are known to cause lung cancer by metabolizing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and long non-coding RNA is also known to play an important role in lung cancer. Considering this, we thought that PM10 might be associated with lung cancer by activating CYP1A1, CYP1B1, and LINC01816.

      • A Study on Image Quality Preference by Image Brightness and Saturation - a Comparison between Adult Group and Elderly Group

        This study researched on the elderly group’s image quality preference characteristics according to the brightness and saturation changes of images. To do this, subjects were divided into adult group and elderly group according to age, and subjective image quality preference evaluation experiment was conducted. Experimental results showed that image quality preference tendency was different by brightness and saturation of images. First, as the brightness decreased, the degree of image quality preference of the Elderly group decreased significantly compared to the Adult group. On the other hand, in the case of saturation decrease, the degree of image quality preference of the Adult group decreased significantly while the Elderly group did not show any significant change. It was confirmed to be necessary to adjust brightness of image upward compared to adult group to satisfy the image quality preference of the elderly group at a high level.

        Human factors of UHD viewing experiences for two different age groups

        In an attempt to contribute to the development of ultra-high-definition (UHD) TV viewing guidelines, the factors that may affect the image quality and visual comfort for both the adult and elderly groups were considered: viewing distance (2H, 4H, and 6H), surrounding environment (illuminance levels 0.6 and 250 lx), video content (day and night, high and low speed), and resolution (UHD and full HD). It was found that the surrounding viewing conditions affected the visual comfort of the adult group more than that of the elderly group. The young adults felt more comfortable visually watching TV in an illuminated room than in a dark room. It was also found that the higher resolution ensures satisfactory visual quality despite the deviations in the viewing distance. With the UHD resolution, the viewing distance was the most significant factor contributing to the image quality and visual comfort for both age groups. Therefore, 'visual comfort distance' was recommended considering each human factor variable for the optimal UHD TV viewing experience.

        Cognitive effect on image quality in full ultra-high definition(8 K)

        Resolution for displays are increasing from 4K-UHD to 8K-Full UHD. We conducted a subjective image quality evaluation to compare the image quality between 4 and 8 K by using diverse image stimuli. As a result, we identified perceptual and cognitive characteristics that can be demonstrated in image quality above 8 K. Cognitive and synesthetic factors as well as perceptual factors, and color expression were improved in 8 K image quality. The research findings suggested that both perceptual and cognitive factors are reinforced in 8 K. This tendency was even more reinforced when the main object was placed within the image. Also, the contrast and vividness felt higher at 8 K, of which the vividness influenced the cognitive evaluation of the 8 K image quality. When compared with 4 K, the image quality above 8 K was accompanied by optical illusion, which in turn improved the understanding of the main object. These results suggest that cognitive evaluations for a comprehensive understanding of images may be strengthened at a very high resolution of 8 K or higher beyond the ‘presence’ of 4 K resolution.

        기억색 연구의 연구 대상은 친숙한 자연물에서 출발해 브랜드 로고와 같은 인공물과 자연풍경으로까지 확장되었다. 기억색은 장기기억에 저장된 원형(prototype)으로 재현된 색채 또는 이미지의 선호에 영향을 미친다. 이미지를 활용한 커뮤니케이션이 급속도로 발전하면서 다양한 complex 이미지가 소비되는 지금, 일상의 모습을 재현한 complex이미지의 기억색 특성을 연구할 필요성이 있다. 이에 본 연구는 자연 풍경과 인물, 인공물이 혼재하는 장면 이미지를 활용한 기억색 재인 실험을 시행했다. 실험 결과 장면 이미지의 색채는 brightness, contrast, saturation이 상승한 상태로 장기 기억에 저장되는 것으로 확인되었다. 특히, 장면 이미지의 기억색은 saturation 감소에 민감한 것으로 확인되어 기존 자연물 단일 대상을 활용한 기억색 연구 결과와 유사한 결과가 도출되었다.

        색상에 의한 한국인 피부색의 상세한 분류

        Personalized makeup is preferred based on individual skin color diagnosis. In accordance, the need to diagnose skin color accurately is required. Skin color varies across different body locations and therefore inaccurate to measure skin color. For these reasons, human skin color is hard measure as a single color value. Therefore, this study investigated how to classify the tone and brightness of human skin by hue than to measure the skin color. Hue is easier for non-professionals to answer and has a wider choice than warm and cool based skin color. In this study, detailed classification of skin colors was attempted using skin color specimens and actual facial images. Based on the PANTONE SkinToneTM Guide, and real skin images, the skin was classified in terms of six hues of Reddish / Yellowish / Orangish / Greenish / Bluish / Purplish. Considering that skin color can be explained by relative values, the measurement data was converted to a difference (delta) from the average value. In skin colors, Redness (a*) and Yellowess (b*) were calculated by classifying each of them into two large categories and to clearly distinguish Lightness (L*) and Chroma (C*) from the tone graph. Δa*(Redness) and ΔL*(Lightness) are calculated as differences from average value. In the same way, Δb*(Yellowness)-ΔC*(Chroma) was also calculated to explain the hue classification. We also identified that Korean skin color is divided into yellow, reddish, and orangish and the relationship with Δb* and ΔC* values of CIELAB.

      • 벽부형 색채조명에 따른 감정(긴장, 안정) 연구

        색은 인간의 감정에 영향을 미치며 색광 또한 인간의 감정에 영향을 미친다. 특히 직접 바라볼 수 있는 벽부형 조명의 색채는 외부 요인에 영향을 받지 않는 단일색으로서 보다 직접적으로 인간의 감정에 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 본 논문은 색광을 피험자에게 직접 노출시킨 후 얻어지는 감정의 정도를 파악하여 직부형 조명으로부터 공간에 조사된 색채와 외부 요인에 영향을 받는 물체색과 구별되는 색광 고유의 감정분포를 알아보았다. 본 연구를 통해 Red, Magenta 색광이 긴장·불안을 가장 크게 유발시키고 Orange와 Yellow가 평온·안정 감정을 가장 크게 유발한다는 결과를 얻었으며 Green 색광의 경우 긴장·불안 평온·안정 감정과 연관성이 없음을 확인하였다.
