        The effects of higenamine on the membrane potential of the central and peripheral areas of the rabbit sino-atrial node which were two small electrically insulated partitions, 0.5X0.5mm in sizes were recorded by 3M KCl-filled glass microelectrodes. The following results were obtained: 1. In the central and peripheral areas, the spontaneous firing frequencies were all increased with the increment of the higenamine concentration from 5X10^-8M/L to 10^-6M/L. 2. Higenamine showed positive chronotropy in the central and peripheral areas which were different to those in the high outside calcium concentrations. 3. After pretreating the preparations with 5X10^-7gm/m of tetrodotoxin(T.T.X.) which revealed the reduction in spontaneous firing frequency maximum diastolic potential(M,D.P) and overshoot, higenamine restored the frequency in the central area and the notch of the overshoot in the peripheral area. The above resu1ts could be regarded that higenamine showed some findings of enhanced sodium current although it would not be so specific in the effects to the ionic currents underlying the spontaneous firing frequencies in the rabbit sino-atrial node.

        치면열구전색제의 조건에 따른 법랑질 결합강도에 관한 연구

        In this study, the shear bond strengths and accompanying elastic modulus ratio, displacement at bond failure and work up to fracture of pit and fissure sealants to toothe enamel were analyzed by the following variables, those were acid etching, moisture content of the surface of enamel, dentin bonding agent(species and method), thermocycling, saliva contamination. One kind of chemically cured resin based pit and fissure sealant, two kinds of light cured resin based pit and fissure sealants and one kind of glass ionomer based pit and fissure sealant, and two kinds of dentin bonding agents were studied. The buccal surface of extracted premolars were ground flat with # 600 silicone carbide papers, and the ground surface was treated depending on the experimental conditions. After each treatment, each pit and fissure sealant was filled into plastic tube of 3mm diameter, which were laid on the surface of ground enamel surface, and were cured. Sealant bonded teeth specimens were immersed in 37℃ distilled water form 24 hours. The shear bond strength of sealant to enamel surface was measured with Universal testing machine with the cross head speed of 1mm/min. From the obtained load-deflection curves, modulus ratio, bond strength, displacement at bond failure and work up to fracture were analyzed. From this experiment, the following results were obtained : 1. Comparing the results of standard condition(i. e. acid etching, dry surface, no dentin bonding agent and 300 thermocyling), the elastic modulus ratio of chemically cured resinbased pit and fissure sealant was significantly higher than those of other materials(P<0.05), and the bond strength, displacement at bond failure and work up to fracture of glass ionomer based pit and fissure sealant were significantly lower than those of other materials(P<0.05). 2. The results of ANOVA with the variables of type of material, acid etching, moisture condition of the enamel surface, dentin bonding agents were as follows ; 1) variables showed significant main effect on the shear bond strength of pit and fissure sealant to enamel(P<0.01), 2) type of material, acid etching and moisture condition of enamel influenced the bond strength significantly(P<0.01), 3) type and application methods of dentin bonding agents influenced on the bond strength significantly(P<0.05). 3. There were statistically significant correlation between the work up to fracture and the bond strength, and between the work up to fracture and the displacement at bond failure(P<0.01), and in these cases the correlation coefficient was 0.87.

        Ursolic Acid-Induced Elevation of Serum Irisin Augments Muscle Strength During Resistance Training in Men

        Ursolic acid (UA), a type of pentacyclic triterpenoid carboxylic acid purified from natural plants, can promote skeletal muscle development. We measured the effect of resistance training (RT) with/without UA on skeletal muscle development and related factors in men. Sixteen healthy male participants (age, $29.37{\pm}5.14$ years; body mass index=$27.13{\pm}2.16kg/m^2$) were randomly assigned to RT (n=7) or RT with UA (RT+UA, n=9) groups. Both groups completed 8 weeks of intervention consisting of 5 sets of 26 exercises, with 10~15 repetitions at 60~80% of 1 repetition maximum and a 60~90-s rest interval between sets, performed 6 times/week. UA or placebo was orally ingested as 1 capsule 3 times/day for 8 weeks. The following factors were measured pre-and post-intervention: body composition, insulin, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), irisin, and skeletal muscle strength. Body fat percentage was significantly decreased (p<0.001) in the RT+UA group, despite body weight, body mass index, lean body mass, glucose, and insulin levels remaining unchanged. IGF-1 and irisin were significantly increased compared with baseline levels in the RT+UA group (p<0.05). Maximal right and left extension (p<0.01), right flexion (p<0.05), and left flexion (p<0.001) were significantly increased compared with baseline levels in the RT+UA group. These findings suggest that UA-induced elevation of serum irisin may be useful as an agent for the enhancement of skeletal muscle strength during RT.

        Prediction of performance of Safety Injection Tank with Fluidic Device using a model of two flow paths and its effect on LBLOCA

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>To predict the performance of the Safety Injection Tank (SIT) with Fluidic Device (FD) of APR1400 (Advance Power Reactor 1400) and its effect on Large Break Loss-of-Coolant Accident (LBLOCA) of APR1400, a model using two flow paths within the SIT is developed such that a flow path along the standpipe and a flow path through the connecting holes to mixing chamber of the FD can be simulated. A method to determine the hydraulic resistance of each flow path based on the hydrodynamic consideration is also developed. Since the method requires overall K-factor during high SIT flow phase and one during low SIT flow phase, the similarity of the hydrodynamics along the initial SIT pressure is evaluated assuming a simple isentropic process. The transition in those hydraulic resistances from the high flow phase to low flow phase are also considered in terms of K-factor of each flow path. From the course of estimating the overall K-factors, the modeling uncertainties are estimated. A good agreement with the test data and validity of the estimated uncertainty range are found from the calculation of the actual test using MARS-KS code and the present modeling. A LBLOCA of APR1400 plant is calculated using the present modeling scheme and the uncertainties of hydraulic resistance. Effect of nitrogen on cladding thermal response is discussed.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A model of the Safety Injection Tank with Fluidic Device was developed for analysis of LBLOCA of APR1400. </LI> <LI> Both the standpipe and the connecting holes to mixing chamber of Fluidic Device were simulated to be appropriate to MARS-KS code. </LI> <LI> A variable hydraulic resistance was determined at each flow path based on the hydrodynamic consideration. </LI> <LI> Introduction of the Nitrogen gas into the reactor core and its effect on cladding thermal response was discussed. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • The Risk of Hepatocellular Carcinoma within and after the First 5 Years of Entecavir in Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B

        Aims: The development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) has decreased with the potent antiviral agents. However, it was uncertain whether the risk of HCC would diminish after the long-term antiviral therapy in Asia, where the CHB is endemic and vertical transmission is common. This study aimed to compare the incidence of HCC within and beyond the first 5 years of entecavir (ETV) in treatment-naïve Korean patients with CHB. Methods: We performed a retrospective observational analysis of data from 894 consecutive, adult patients with CHB undergoing ETV treatment at a tertiary referral hospital in Ulsan, Korea from January 1, 2007 through April 31, 2017. We compared the HCC incidence rates per 100 person-years, within and beyond the first 5 years. Univariate and multivariate analyses for factors predictive of HCC were performed. Results: The incidence rate of HCC in the patients with CHB did not differ statistically when comparing within and beyond the first 5 years of ETV therapy (2.29% vs. 1.66% per person-year, p value=0.217). Failure to achieve a maintained virologic response (MVR) were a major independent risk factors for HCC in patients at follow-uP<5 years. In contrast, for patients with follow-up ≥5 years, achieving MVR did not show a significant association with HCC development. Conclusions: The incidence rate of HCC in patients with CHB did not show a significant decrease through the study period. The risk of HCC in Asian patients with CHB may remain for a longer period.

      • Thermal integrity tests of a shipping package using a slice model and a half-scale model

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>KORAD-B/II shipping packages, developed by the Korea Radioactive Waste Agency (KORAD), are used to transport C4 concrete packages, which are temporarily stored in the HANUL nuclear power plant. These packages must therefore meet the requirements of the Korea Nuclear Safety Security Commission Act 2017-56, the IAEA Safety Standard Series No. SSR-6, and US 10 CFR Part 71. The regulatory guidelines classify a KORAD-B/II shipping package as a Type B package, and state that this type of package must be able to withstand a temperature of 800 °C for a period of 30 min. It is desirable to use a full-scale model of a shipping package when performing tests to evaluate its integrity. However, performing a test using a full-scale model is costly. Therefore, to evaluate the thermal integrity of a KORAD-B/II shipping package, thermal tests were conducted using a slice model. For comparison, a thermal test was also carried out using a half-scale model. In the first thermal test using the slice model, the maximum surface temperature of the cask body was higher than the permitted maximum temperature limit because of incomplete combustion. In the second thermal test using the slice model and in the thermal test using the half-scale model, the maximum temperature of the cask body was lower than the permitted maximum temperature limit, thus proving that the thermal integrity of the KORAD-B/II shipping package could be maintained. The temperature results of the thermal test using the slice model were higher than those of the thermal test using the half-scale model. The effect of flame on a single-layer shipping package without neutron shielding, such as the KORAD-B/II shipping package, appears to be influenced more by a reduction in time rather than in size.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Thermal integrity of a shipping package using a slice model and a half-scale model is experimentally investigated. </LI> <LI> The maximum temperatures of the cask body and the containment seal were lower than the permitted maximum temperature. </LI> <LI> The sooty surface becomes a black body, thereby increasing the surface temperature. </LI> <LI> The effect of flame on a single-layer shipping package appears to be influenced more by a reduction in time rather than in size. </LI> </UL> </P>
