      • 약년층과 노령층 위암 환자의 비교

        Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the clinicopathological characteristics and postoperative prognosis of two age groups with gastric cancer in order to establish the proper treatment strategy in these groups of patients. Materials and Methods: Among patients with gastric cancer who underwent a gastrectomy between 1990 and 1996 at the Department of Surgery, Kyungpook National University, the clinicopathological characteristics, including the postoperative survival, of patients younger than 40-years old were compared with those of patients over 69-years old. Results: During that period 1,125 gastric cancer patients underwent a gastrectomy. Among them, 111 patients ($9.9\%$) were less than 40-years old, and 96 patients ($8.5\%$) were over 69-years old. In the young group, 79 patients ($71.2\%$) had a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, and 59 patients from the elderly group ($61.5\%$) had a well- or moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma (P<0.05). Curative surgery was performed for 88 ($79.3\%$) patients in the young group and 78 ($81.3\%$) patients in the elderly group. This difference was not statistically significant. There was no statistically significant difference in the 5-year survival rates between the young and the elderly ($66.3\%\;vs.\;47.2\%$) groups, but the 5-year survival rate of the young group was significantly higher than that of the elderly group after a curative resection ($83.2\%\;vs.\;53.3\%$; P<0.05). Also the 5-year survival rate of the elderly group was significantly higher than that of the young group after a non-curative resection ($20.4\%\;vs.\;4.6\%$; P<0.05). Conclusions: For young patients, more efforts are needed to detect gastric cancer in its early stages so that a curative surgery can be performed. However, for the elderly, surgical treatment is recommended at any stage because of the relatively high survival rate, even after non-curative surgery.

        스피닝 운동 후 발생한 횡문근융해증 치험 1례

        Objective: To report a case of rhabdomyolysis that occurred after spinning exercise. Methods: A patient diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis received Korean medical treatment and Western medical treatment for 6 days. We observed the patient for 13 days. Clinical symptoms were evaluated with a Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) and laboratory tests, which included Liver Functional Test (LFT), Renal Functional Test (RFT), creatinine phosphokinase (CPK), myoglobin, and urine tests. Results: After treatment, the clinical symptoms were improved. In this case, acute renal failure did not occur. Laboratory results, including AST, ALT, CPK, and LDH, were also improved. Conclusions: Rhabdomyolysis can be treated cooperatively with Korean and western medical cooperative treatment.

        전립선비대증 변증도구 개발 기초 연구

        Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop a standard tool of pattern identification, which will be applied to clinical research, for benign prostatic hyperplasia. Method: The items and structure of the instrument were based on a review of the published literature in China and Korea. The advisory committee on this study included 11 kidney-endocrine professors of the Korean Medical Colleges Division and 4 Korean medicine doctors who had a doctor's degree in the Kidney-Endocrine Division. The advisory committee was questioned regarding pattern identification importance, symptom weight, treatment importance, changes in the symptoms, rare changes in the symptoms, and frequency of prescriptions regarding benign prostatic hyperplasia. Results: The Korean instrument of pattern identification was completed; it was composed of four questions for benign prostatic hyperplasia. Conclusion: We sincerely look forward to improving the instrument through the continuous clinical studies.

        薏苡仁散 투여 후 호전된 사마귀 환자 1례 보고

        Objective: To examine the effectiveness of Uiin-san (薏苡仁散) as a treatment for viral warts. Methods: A 24-year-old man with warts on the left toe, both fingertips, and face was treated with acupuncture, moxibustion, and Uiin-san for 35 days. Results: After treatment, the viral warts had essentially disappeared. Conclusions: We suggest that viral warts can be treated with Uiin-san.

        『피그말리온』의 일라이저에 대한 담화분석

        In this paper, George Bernard Shaw’s ideological backgrounds will be investigated, and the discourse of Eliza, protagonist from Pygmalion, will be analyzed through her dialogues in order to prove that she has a “Life Force,” which is a key element of Shaw’s ideology, essential to renovate and develop the world. Eliza was a very poor and dirty girl, and could not speak well. But, after having struggled with oppressions and violence at the hands of her antagonist, Higgins, she has finally become a strong and proud person, thanks to her Life Force.         The Lost Girl과 로렌스의 성별의식

        The purpose of this paper is to study D. H. Lawrence`s gender consciousness and viewpoint of woman in The Lost Girl by focusing upon the contradictory relationship between the teller and the tale. The teller, the author-narrator, resents female autonomy and strength and conforms to a conventional ideology of woman as a passive agent. On the other hand, the tale reveals woman`s ability and determination to take an active role in changing the conditions of her life. In the beginning of The Lost Girl Alvina is a woman who has courage and independence. But she gradually submits to Cicio`s male power and accepts male dominance. It is remarkable that the tension between the teller and the tale makes a landmark change with the outbreak of World War I: the narrative tension and the status of women gradually weaken in the course of the war. Accordingly in The Lost Girl Lawrence shows the nature of an anti-feminist.

        의상 화엄사상의 시간∙시간성

        우리는 의상의 『화엄일승법계도』에서 ‘거래’去來와 ‘부동’不動이라는 일견 모순된 개념이 동시에 주장되고 있음을 발견한다. 이러한 모순성은 화엄사상의 독특한 연기관, 상입・상즉의 논리에 기인하는 것이지만, 이러한 측면이 화엄사상가 모두에게 보이는 것은 아니다. 이 글은 특히 의상의 사상에 스며있는 시간의 문제를 추적함으로써 의상이 이 문제를 어떻게 풀어갔는지를 확인하고자 한다. 의상의 중문·즉문의 논리는 지엄, 법장과도 다른 독특한 점이 있다. 의상은 이를 예외 없이 ‘거래’와 관련하여 설명한다. ‘가고 옴’의 문제와 결합되어 설명되고 있는 의상의 ‘수십전법’의 비유는 중문·즉문의 논리가 결국 ‘수렴’과 ‘확산’의 의미를 갖게끔 한다. 이러한 관계는 ‘삼세가 곧 일념’이라는 화엄사상의 시간론에도 적용된다. 삼세가 일념으로 수렴되고 다시 일념이 삼세로 확산된다는 것이다. 그런데 이것이 가능한 것은 화엄의 시간론이 객관적, 공간적인 시간이 아니라 내면화되어 의식의 문제로 이해되었기 때문이다. 시간론이 관법과 연결되는 것도 이 때문이다. 의상 사상의 시간성은 그의 성불론에 잘 드러나 있다. 그의 성불론으로 대표적인 ‘구래불’, ‘내 오척되는 몸’, ‘자체불’이 각각 과거, 현재, 미래로 배속되어 있기 때문이다. 그런데 ‘구래불’은 깨달음을 얻을 때 자각되는 것이라는 점에서 과거의 사건이 아니라 현재에 이루어지는 것이며, 나의 미래불인 ‘자체불’에 예배하는 것은 미래의 일이 아니라 지금 행하는 것이라는 점에서 현재의 사건이다. 과거와 미래가 현재 속으로 들어오는 것이다. 현재는 끊임없이 흘러간다. 한 찰나로서의 지금은 틀림없이 존재하지만 그것은 존재하는 순간 무로 사라진다. ‘내 오척되는 몸’도 이러한 이중적 성격을 갖는다. 이 ‘내 몸’은 ‘구래불’로서 이미 깨달은 존재이지만, ‘자체불’에 예배하는 자로서 아직 깨닫지 못한 자이다. 그런데 이 이중성이야말로 시간의 이중성과 다르지 않으며, 수행이 가능한 근거이다. 이렇게 시간의 문제는 의상의 사상에서 수행론과 긴밀하게 연결되어 있다. We can find the contradictory ideas such as 'going and coming' and 'no movement' are asserted at the same time in Diagram of the Dharmadhātu written by Uisang(625~702). This kind of contradiction is supposed to be originated from the unique logic of mutual penetration and mutual identity, which is the basic idea of Huayen philosophy. Nonetheless we can find the basic differences in explanations of that logic among the Huayen philosophers. This treatise aims to trace how the problem of time was treated in the thought of Uisang, with the vision that it will reveal the characteristics of his uniqueness. Uisang has very intimate relationship with Zhiyan and Fazang as his master and as a colleague, but he is very different from them in holding the middle way as the basic foundation of his thought. It is also connected with this fact that he explains the logic of mutual penetration and mutual identity in association with the 'going and coming' without any exception, especially in the explanation on the simile of 'counting the ten coins'. As a result, we can read the meaning of the mutual penetration as convergence and that of mutual identity as proliferation. And we can find that these two meanings work in Huayen time theory which is represented as 'Past, present and the future, these three are one moment'. Accordingly these three converge in one moment, and one moment proliferates to three points in time. All these dynamic condensation and extension of time are possible just because the time was internalized as the stream of consciousness, as we can find the same tendency in the philosophy of St. Augustine. The characteristics of Uisang's understanding of the time is well represented in his theory of the attainment of the Buddha. It is because his basic ideas on the Buddhas are arranged on the sequence of time. Namely 'Buddha-from-old-times', 'My-five-feet-body' and 'Buddha-by-itself' were explained as the past, present and the future Buddhas. But at the same time we must keep the following perspective deep in mind. We find out that we are the Buddha-from-old-times just when we get enlightenment. This means that Buddha-from-old-times does not belong to the past, He belongs to the present and acts vividly just at the time we get enlightenment. And the Buddha-by-itself regarded as my future Buddha also belongs to the present, because we worship Him at present time. From these facts, we know clearly that the past and the future converge into the present. The present flows continuously without cessation. It is certain that one moment at present does exist, but it is also certain that it disappears into non-being. My-five-feet-body has the same contradictory dual meaning. My-body has the enlightenment already as the Buddha-from-old-times, and at the same time is not an enlightened one as a person who worships the Buddha-by-itself. However this duality is not different from the duality of the time, and this is the basis or the ground which enables the practicing. The problem of time is connected very closely with the theory of practice in the philosophy of Uisang.

        『채털리 부인의 연인』에 나타난 에로스와 타나토스의 대립 양상

        This paper is an attempt to examine the opposing relationship between eros and thanatos in D.H. Lawrence's last novel Lady Chatterley's Lover. In this study, eros will be seen as a “power cable” which integrates the self and unites individuals. This is in contrast with the thanatotic forces which disintegrate, separate and annihilate. Lawrence urged that man should establish a pure, new, and perfected relationship with all the universe. In his ideal world, everything in life must be in one living continuum with the whole universe. In this sense, Lady Chatterley's Lover embodies the author's ideal. (Dongshin University)
