영한 번역 코퍼스를 활용한 단순화 및 균일화 보편소 연구
이창수 한국외국어대학교 통번역연구소 2013 통번역학연구 Vol.17 No.3
The paper uses an English-Korean literary translation corpus and a comparable authentic Korean literary corpus to test two translation universal hypotheses, simplification and leveling-out. Standardized type-token ratio (STTR) and mean sentence length are calculated by using the Wordsmith Tools program, to see if there are statistically significant differences in their mean values between the two corpora. The analysis shows that the translation corpus is lower in both measures than the non-translation corpus, supporting the simplification hypothesis. The translation corpus is also lower in variance, showing greater homogeneity than the non-translation corpus, which supports the leveling-out hypothesis.
엔그램(n-gram) 분석을 통한 번역한국어와 비번역한국어간의 어휘묶음 유형 차이 사례 연구
이창수 한국외국어대학교 통번역연구소 2011 통번역학연구 Vol.15 No.-
The paper analyzes differences in lexical bundles between translational and original Korean as identified by a 3-gram analysis of an English-Korean newspaper/magazine translation corpus and a comparable Korean news corpus. The n-gram analysis, with a cutoff of 20 times per million words, produced 84 and 44 lexical bundles for the translation and original Korean corpora respectively after excluding patterns containing numbers and proper nouns. A majority of the multiple word sequences related to verbal expressions expressing reported speech and modality of surety and ability. A comparison of the two lists revealed some patterns present on one list but absent on the other or with a marked difference in frequency. A further investigation of some of these patterns provided evidence indicating that the translational corpus exhibited some of the translational universals suggested in the literature, namely source language interference or shining-through, simplification and under-representation. The study also suggests that n-gram analysis can be a highly useful tool for corpus-based translation research.
