Improved electrochemical performance of hybrid supercapacitor using Zr doped Li4Ti5O12 anode

The cylindrical hybrid supercapacitors are fabricated using the activated carbon as the cathode and Li4Ti5-xZrxO12 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.6)as the anode. The x-ray diffraction patterns of the Li4Ti5-xZrxO12 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.6) exhibited that Zr entered into the Ti-site and theLi4Ti5-xZrxO12 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.45) was well-crystallized without secondary phases. This increased lattice parameter and conductivityof Li4Ti5O12. However excessive Zr doping caused inferior electrochemical performance due to impurity phases. The biggerCV region of Li4Ti5-xZrxO12 (0.15 ≤ x ≤ 0.45) can be inferred that Zr leads more active electrochemical performance than thatof Li4Ti5O12. The Zr also improved the initial charge-discharge capacitance as well as cycling stability. The hybridsupercapacitor using Li4Ti4.55Zr0.45O12 anode shows the most excellent electrochemical performance
Economic Feasibility of a PV System for Grid-connected Semiconductor Facilities in South Korea

In this study, a cost optimization and sensitivity analysis were carried out for the deployment of a photovoltaic (PV) system in a semiconductor facility in South Korea. The Microgrid software (HOMER) was used to simulate the performance of the system for the electrical load profile of a representative semiconductor manufacturing facility. We performed cost optimizations for grid-only, PV/battery, and grid/PV systems for the semiconductor facility. The environmental impact was evaluated by estimating the amount of polluting emissions. The grid-only system showed the lowest net present cost and cost of energy, and by connecting the PV system to the grid, the amount of pollutants was decreased by 10% with a renewable fraction 9%. If we consider a renewable PV/battery system, a 100% renewable fraction and zero emissions can be achieved. In addition, sensitivity analyses were performed. Under the assumption that PV costs decrease and grid costs increase, it was found that grid/PV and grid/PV/battery systems are economically more competitive than grid-only systems. Additionally, as feed-in tariffs are introduced to South Korea, it can be shown that a semiconductor facility with a PV system installed could generate profit by selling excess energy.

Objective: To explore accuracy and validity of a VO2max prediction equation of the multistage model using by modified Bruce protocol submaximal exercise test in healthy subjects. Method: Thirty three healthy subjects (age: 44.0±12.9) were recruited. VO2max was measured during treadmill by direct gas analysis from a maximal incremental test. VO2max was then predicted from multistage model equation with age, measured oxygen consumption and heart rate during a maximal incremental treadmill test. And the predicted VO2max values from equation were compared with the measured VO2max values. Results: The predicted VO2max values and the measured VO2max values were highly correlated (r=0.9, p<0.001). The predicted VO2max values (2,285.3±536.0 ml/min) were not significantly different from the measured VO2max values (2,285.5±598.5 ml/min). Conclusion: In healthy subjects, the multistage model equation offers a fairly accurate VO2max prediction. Therefore the equation can be used in the estimation of VO2max at modified Bruce protocol in an aerobic exercise program. In this study, we have performed optimization of renewable hybrid grids incorporating photovoltaic (PV) modules, wind turbines, diesel generators, and energy storage systems for Hangyeong-myeon in Jeju island in South Korea. A commercial microgrid simulation software has been used in this study. Performance of proposed grids has been evaluated by total net present cost. For sensitivity analyses, diesel price and cost for PV modules are used as sensitivity variables. We have also compared economic feasibility of the optimized system to one of the current electrical grid.
