Modern automated manufacturing processes employ automated guided vehicles(AGVs) for material handling, which serve several machining centers(MCs) in a factory. Optimal scheduling of AGVs can significantly help to increase the efficiency of the manufacturing process by minimizing the idle time of MCs waiting for the raw materials. In this paper, we will analyse the requirements for an optimal schedule and then provide a mathematical framework for an efficient schedule of material delivery by an AGV. With this model, the optimal number of MCs to be utilized will also be determined. Finally, the material delivery schedule employing multiple journeys to the MCs by the AGV will be carried out. Through rigorous analysis and simulation experiments, we shall show that such a delivery strategy will optimize the overall performance.

This paper traces the intellectual and programmatic traditions of community development for future community regeneration. It explores U.S. experiences with large-scale urbanization, excessive urban sprawl, racial segregation, social polarization, and poverty. Facing the urban pathology, contemporary community development is trying to build better community with civic participation, leadership, planning, management, and inter-sectoral partnership. The paper posits that many American communities are looking for sustainable community development to enhance equity, economic opportunities,and environmental protection. In this process, it continues to use comprehensive and institutional approach in governance and political incrementalism decision making. This paper asserts that it is important to utilize cognitive or asset mapping and visioning techniques for sustainable community plan.

본 연구는 기후변화에 대응한 광역거버넌스의 역할에 대해 캘리포니아의 상원법375(SB375)을 사례로 논하였다. 한국의 경우 국가전체의 온실가스 감소의 목표와 방안들을 논의하고 있지만, 실제적 실행에 있어서 각 지역과 지방정부가 감당해야 할 구체적 방안과 평가의 기준이 미비한 실정이다. 미국 캘리포니아주의 사례를 통해, 온실가스 감축량 목표 설정과정에서의 광역행정의 역할에 대해 살펴보았다. 캘리포니아주의 상원법 375 (SB375)는 기후변화를 위해 각 광역지역별 구체적 기획, 평가, 실행을 요구하고 있으며, 이러한 역할을 광역계획기관(MPO)가 담당하도록 하고 있다. 광역계획기관은 SB375에 따라 온실가스감축량을 정하는 캘리포니아 대기 관리국(CARB)의 하향식 접근에 협력하고, 이해관계자 및 지방정부들에게 정보를 제공하고 목표량에 대한 합의를 이끌어내는 역할을 담당함으로써, 참여적 상향식 광역거버넌스를 이끌어내는 역할을 담당하고 있다. 중앙정부 중심의 규제를 통한 관리보다는 상향적 지역사회의 자발적 참여를 통한 지속가능성에 관한 연구이다. 본 연구는 한국의 향후 온실가스 감소를 위한 지방정부간협력체계와 관련되어 사용 가능한 과정적 모델을 제시하고자 한다.
Magnetic Koreatown: Location and Growth in Transition

The Korean community in Los Angeles has developed a physically segregated community known as “Koreatown.” The Los Angeles Koreatown has experienced fast growth in the past thirty years. This ethnic enclave becomes a growing engine for the city with many entrepreneurs owning properties. Los Angeles Koreatown has significant meaning for not only Korean Americans in North America, but also Koreans in other regions and Korea peninsula. This ethnic enclave is the largest one based on voluntary Korean migrations, and the most important economic, social, religious, and cultural hub in overseas. This paper discusses: Why has Los Angeles Koreatown become so large and expansive? Why did Korean immigrant choose this location? The paper concludes that the ethnic religion and entrepreneurship have played an important role in building the community’s development pattern and spatial location.
Nano-Calcium Ameliorates Ovariectomy-Induced Bone Loss in Female Rats

In this study, we examined the effects of organic types of calcium derived from oyster shell (OS-Ca) and nano-calcium (Nano-Ca) on the bio-availability and physiological responses associated with bone health in ovariectomised rats. Increased body weight, which is one of the physiological effects of ovary removal, was significantly recovered by Nano-Ca treatment (p<0.05). The reduced calcium level in the liver in ovariectomised rat was increased significantly with OS-Ca and Nano-Ca treatment (p<0.05), suggesting improved calcium bio-availability. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin, and deoxypy-ridinoline (DPD) were analysed as biochemical markers of bone metabolism and health in the presence or absence of OS-Ca and Nano-Ca. ALP, osteocalcin, and DPD levels increased following ovary removal and tended to decrease after treat-ment with Nano-Ca, indicating that Nano-Ca induces favourable bone metabolism. This result was reflected in the recovery of bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) of the femur after Nano-Ca treatment following ovary removal. Taken together, our data show that the tested calcium treatments, especially using Nano-Ca, enhanced the bio-availability or absorption of calcium and positively affected bone metabolism in ovariectomised rats.
