Differential Immunohistological Features of Inflammatory Myopathies and Dysferlinopathy
최재환,박영은,김성일,김정일,이창훈,박규현,김대성 대한의학회 2009 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.24 No.6
This study was performed in order to characterize the types of the infiltrating cells, and the expression profiles of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and membrane attack complex (MAC) in patients with inflammatory myopathies and dysferlinopathy. Immunohistochemical stains were performed using monoclonal antibodies against several inflammatory cell types, MHC class I, and MAC in muscles from inflammatory myopathies and dysferlinopathy. There was significant difference in the types of infiltrating cells between polymyositis (PM), dermatomyositis (DM), and dysferlinopathy, including significantly high CD4+/CD8+ T cell ratio and B/T cell ratio in DM. In dysferlinopathy, CD4+ T cells were the most abundant and the proportions of infiltrating cell types were similar to those of DM. MHC class I was expressed in muscle fibers of PM and DM regardless of the presence of inflammatory infiltrates. MAC was expressed in necrotic fibers and vessels of PM and DM. One patient with early stage DM had a MAC deposits on endomysial capillaries. In dysferlinopathy, MAC deposit was also observed on the sarcolemma of nonnecrotic fibers. The analysis of inflammatory cells, MHC class I expressions and MAC deposits may help to differentiate dysferlinopathy from idiopathic inflammatory myopathy.

Saccades are rapid eye movements that shift the line of sight between successive points of fixation. The cerebellum calibrates saccadic amplitude (dorsal vermis and fastigial nucleus) and the saccadic pulse‐step match (flocculus) for optimal visuo‐ocular motor behavior. Based on electrophysiology and the pharmacological inactivation studies, early activity in one fastigial nucleus could be important for accelerating the eyes at the beginning of a saccade, and the later activity in the other fastigial nucleus could be critical for stopping the eye on target, which is controlled by inhibitory projection from the dorsal vermis. The cerebellum could monitor a corollary discharge of the saccadic command and terminate the eye movement when it is calculated to be on target. The fastigial nucleus and dorsal vermis also participate in the adaptive control of saccadic accuracy.
Update on Genetic Study of Vestibular Disorder
최재환 대한평형의학회 2021 Research in Vestibular Science Vol.20 No.2
The wide availability of next-generation sequencing has enabled a rapid progress in the discovery of genetic variants associated with many disorders. However, the contribution of genetic factors in vestibular disorders is largely unknown due to the low prevalence of familial disorders and the clinical diversity. A detailed clinical characterization of patients and a choice of proper genetic tests are re-quired to identify the genetic contribution in vestibular disorders. In this review, we will introduce a genetic approach for vestibular disorders and update the evidences to support the genetic contribution in vestibular disorders.

Spontaneous carotid artery dissection is an important cause of ischemic stroke in young patients. There are some genetic or environmental factors associated with risks for spontaneous arterial dissection. Although thyroid hormone may affect the vascular system, the predisposition for arterial dissection remains unknown in thyrotoxicosis. We present a patient with uncontrolled Graves’ disease, who developed bilateral internal carotid artery dissections.
전기화학적으로 안정한 축전식 탈염의 운전을 위한 셀 전위 결정 모델
최재환 한국공업화학회 2014 한국공업화학회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.2014 No.1

Patients with recurrent vertigo/dizziness or unsteadiness are a heterogeneous group of complex disorders affecting the peripheral and central vestibular system. They represent a diagnostic challenge for the clinicians, and their genetic basis is largely not known. However, there are some cerebellar and vestibular disorders with a strong genetic background, such as episodic ataxia, spinocerebellar ataxia, vestibular migraine, Meniere’s disease, and autosomal dominant nonsyndromic deafness. Furthermore, recent advances in next generation sequencing technique are increasing the number of novel genes associated with cerebellar and vestibular disorders. In this article, we have summarized clinical and molecular genetics findings in neuro-otology.Res Vestib Sci 2015;14(4):101-109

The effect of oxygen penetration into the microbial floc on the performance of activated sludge process was investigated. Two lab-scale completely mixed biological reactors maintaining dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations at 2㎎/L and 10㎎/L were run under the same environmental conditions. For high DO level(10㎎/L), about 10% of additional reduced sludge production and slightly improved organic removal efficiency were observed compare to the low DO level(2㎎/L). In order to verify the difference of performance between the two completely mixed biological reactors, the diffusion model for oxygen transfer through bacterial floc was derived by adapting the concept that bacterial floc react as spherical porous catalyst. The data of oxygen uptake rate(SRT variation) used in the model was from the study of Clark et al (1971), and 100㎛ of floc diameter was assumed. The application of diffusion model. to the reactor operational data indicated that complete penetration of oxygen to the center of floc was occurred for the range of 1.0∼13day of SRT in the reactor of high DO level (10㎎/L). However, significant oxygen concentration drop was monitored according to SRT changes in the reactor of low DO level. In the case of low DO level, the concentration of active biomass calculated from the oxygen penetration model was lower than that of high DO level. In order to prove precisely the effect of D0 concentrations on the activated sludge process with diffusion model, it is recommended to measure the floc size and oxygen uptake rate in the future research.
