This study aims to present the necessary elements that should be part of South Korea’s National Defense Strategy against the recent North Korean cyber-attacks. The elements proposed in this study also reflect the recent trend of cyber-attack incidents that are happening in the Unites States and other countries and have been classified into the three levels of cyber incidents: cyberwarfare, cyberterrorism and cybercrime. As such, the elements proposed are presented in accordance with this classification system. In order to properly take into account the recent trend of cyber-attacks perpetrated by North Korea, this paper analyzed the characteristics of recent North Korean cyber-attacks as well as the countermeasures and responses of South Korea. Moreover, by making use of case studies of cyber-attack incidents by foreign nations that threaten national security, the response measures at a national level can be deduced and applied as in this study. Thus, the authors of this study hope that the newly proposed elements here within will help to strengthen the level of Korea’s cyber security against foreign attacks, specifically that of North Korea such as the KHNP hacking incidents and so on. It is hoped that further damage such as leakage of confidential information, invasion of privacy and physical intimidation can be mitigated.

The corrosion fatigue properties of thermally insulated pipeline were investigated in synthetic groundwater by electrochemical test, corrosion fatigue test and SEM analysis. Since the potential difference between the weldment and the base metal was small, the pipeline steel was not susceptible to galvanic corrosion. No fatigue limit was apparent for corrosion fatigue testing with remarkable reduction of fatigue lifetime. The effects of insulation and stress on the corrosion fatigue resistance of pipeline steel were studied through linear polarization resistance (LPR) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) during corrosion fatigue testing. The result of LPR measurement indicated that the corrosion rate was determined not by the water content of PUR foam but by the magnitude of applied stress. The better corrosion fatigue property of the insulated steel was attributable to the formation of a protective rust layer under the insulation, which reduced the acceleration of corrosion process and the propagation of fatigue crack. This was confirmed by the results of EIS measurements and SEM observation.

Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is a rare, benign condition, characterized by various gastrointestinal symptoms associated with eosinophilic infiltration of the wall of the any part of the digestive tract, most commonly the stomach and small intestine. Eosinophilic gastroenteritis is generally classified according to the involved layer of the gastrointestinal tract. Serosal type is the rarest form of eosinophilic gastroenteritis that is characteristically accompanied with eosinophilic ascites and responds well to steroid treatment. We have experienced a typical case of serosal type eosinophilic gastroenteritis in a women who complained of abdominal pain. She had peripheral eosinophilia, gastric and small bowel wall thickening with eosionophilic ascites. Her symptom relieved rapidly after starting corticosteroid treatment and she had long been in clinical remission after discontinuation of corticosteroid administration.
