        A study has been conducted experimentally on natural convection heat transfer characteristics of a vertical flat plate with horizontal rectangular fins in air. The effects of fin heights and Rayleigh numbers are mainly investigated. The experimental results are as follows; 1. The mean fin, plate and total Nusselt numbers decrease as dimensionless fin heights H/S increase at $0.50{\leq}H/S{\leq}2.00$. 2. The mean fin surface Nusselt number in case of H/S = 0.50 and $Ra_c=4.33{\times}10^3$ shows its maximum at $X_1$, surface where there is no interference with other fins. 3. Owing to the interference of fins the mean plate Nusselt numbers at H/S=0.50 and 2.00 for $Ra_S=6.57{\times}10^3$ are 35% and 80% respectively less than the mean fin Nusselt numbers. 4. The mean fin, plate and total Nusselt numbers of horizontal rectangular fins show higher values at short fins, but lower values at long fins than those of upward vertical fins.

        HEC-HMS/RAS와 HEC-GeoRAS 모형을 이용한 홍수범람 시나리오 수립 및 분석

        최근 우리나라의 기상재해는 이상 기후변화로 인한 태풍 및 국지성 호우에 의한 피해가 대부분을 차지한다. 이러한 피해를 줄이기 위하여 홍수위험지도 및 재해지도 제작이 필수적이며, 이에 시나리오별 홍수범람 해석은 중요한 부분을 차지한다. 본 연구는 강릉시 사천천에서 홍수범람 시나리오를 수립하고 HEC-GeoRAS 모형을 이용하여 분석을 실시하였다. 확률강우량은 강릉지상관측소의 1961년~2010년(50년) 강우자료를 사용하였고 시나리오는 100년, 200년 빈도 및 가능최대홍수량(PMF)으로 태풍루사 사례를 가정하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 100년 빈도 강우량을 초과할 경우 홍수범람이 예측되며, 200년 빈도와 PMF빈도의 경우 범람면적이 64.3 ha, 135.9 ha, 최대 침수심은 4.1 m, 5.7 m로 각각 모의되었다. 이러한 결과는 실시간 기상자료와 모델수치해석 자료 합성을 활용하여 지속시간에 대한 강우량으로 홍수범람 구역을 예측하는데 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다. Damages by hurricanes and regional torrential rains due to anomaly climate changes take up the most of recent meteorological disasters in Korea. To reduce these damages, producing flood hazard maps and disaster maps is essential, and accordingly, the interpretation of flood inundation by scenario accounts for an important part. This study established a flood inundation scenario at Sacheon River in Gangneung-si and carried out an analysis using the HEC-GeoRAS model. The rainfall data at the Gangneung General Observation Post from 1961 to 2010(50 years) were used for probable rainfall, and the scenario was analyzed by assuming the case of Typhoon Rusa with 100-year and 200-year frequencies and Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). As a result, flood inundation is predicted if it exceeded the 100-year frequency rainfall while for the 200-year frequency and PMF frequency, flooded areas were simulated at 64.3 ha and 135.9 ha, respectively and maximum flooded depths in 4.1 m and 5.7 m, respectively. It is expected that these results will help predict flood inundation area with rainfall in the duration using the synthetic data of the real-time weather data and the model numerical analysis.

        키틴의 글루코오스 단위에 메탄술폰산 존재하에서 아세트산 무수물, 프로피온산 무수물과 n-부틸산 무수물을 반응시켜 아세틸 키틴(AC), 프로피오닐 키틴(PC) 그리고 n-부티릴 키틴(BC) 등의 에스테르 형태를 갖는 개질화 키틴을 합성하였고 이들의 구조를 FT-IR과 solid state CP/MAS ^(13)C-NMR spectra로 확인하였다. 에스테르 형태의 키틴유도체는 대체로 키틴의 글루코오스 단위의 6번 탄소위치에 치환되었다. 유도체를 유기용매와 수용성 약산 유기용매에서 용해성을 검토하여 포름산에서 세 가지 유도체 모두 좋은 용해성을 나타냈고, 수용성 약산에서는 대부분의 유도체는 팽윤되는 것을 고찰할 수 있었다. Three ester-type chitin derivatives were synthesized by reacting chitin with acetic anhydride, propionic anhydride and n-butyric anhydride to form acetyl chitin(AC), propionyl chitin(PC) and n-butyryl chitin(BC). Methanesulfonic acid was used as a catalyst. FT-IR spectra and solid state CP/MAS ^(13)C-NMR spectra of three chitin derivatives showed that the substituents were mainly incorporated in the C_6 position of chitin. The ester-type chititn derivatives were dissolved well in formic acid and swollen in aqueous acidic solution.

        Life-Sustaining Procedures, Palliative Care, and Cost Trends in Dying COPD Patients in U.S. Hospitals: 2005~2014

        Purpose: Little is known regarding the extent to which dying patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) receive life-sustaining procedures and palliative care in U.S. hospitals. We examine hospital cost trends and the impact of palliative care utilization on the use of life-sustaining procedures in this population. Methods: Retrospective nationwide cohort analysis was performed using National Inpatient Sample (NIS) data from 2005 and 2014. We examined the receipt of both palliative care and intensive medical procedures, defined as systemic procedures, pulmonary procedures, or surgeries using the International Classification of Diseases, 9th revision (ICD-9-CM). Results: We used compound annual growth rates (CAGR) to determine temporal trends and multilevel multivariate regressions to identify factors associated with hospital cost. Among 77,394,755 hospitalizations, 79,314 patients were examined. The CAGR of hospital cost was 5.83% (P<0.001). The CAGRs of systemic procedures and palliative care were 5.98% and 19.89% respectively (each P<0.001). Systemic procedures, pulmonary procedures, and surgeries were associated with increased hospital cost by 59.04%, 72.00%, 55.26%, respectively (each P<0.001). Palliative care was associated with decreased hospital cost by 28.71% (P<0.001). Conclusion: The volume of systemic procedures is the biggest driver of cost increase although there is a cost-saving effect from greater palliative care utilization.

        The objective of this study is to establish the application method of environmental information system which is related to hazard identification for Health Risk Assessment. For establishing the environmental information system, fourteen hazardous chemicals were chosen and applicated to the database network such as RTKNET(Right Know Net), MSDS(Material Safety Data Sheets), TRI(Toxic Release Inventory), IRIS, AIRS, etc. The searching method of environmental information is classified to three sections such as the domestic commercial information company, international database agencies, and internet. Recently the importance of environmental information is being emphasized because it is essential to use database system in the field of environmental studies. Most of the foreign research organizations are communicating actively for information exchange, and the improvement of the quality of research. It is required to accumulate the data and develop them to database for future research.

        Purpose: We measured the knowledge, satisfaction, and education needs in sexual rehabilitation of male patients diagnosed with a spinal cord injury. Methods: We recruited 104 patients from a general rehabilitation hospital. Data were collected between April 4 and May 9, 2008. Knowledge of sexual rehabilitation, satisfaction, and educational needs were measured using self-report questionnaires. Results: Points for knowledge of sexual rehabilitation were 6.75 out of 20, sexual satisfaction was 3.02 out of 5, and demand for sexual rehabilitation education were 3.54 out of 5. Most (93.27%) of the patients wanted to have a sex life, and many (75%)were willing to participate in sexual rehabilitation education. There were no differences in knowledge or satisfaction based on general characteristics. However, sexual satisfaction of the university graduates was higher than the lower education group. Conclusion: Male patients with spinal cord disorders are interested in a sex life and demand sexual rehabilitation education. These findings should support the development of sexual rehabilitation programs.

        Polypeptide계 인공 피부의 합성과 특성

        In order to evaluate the artificial skin for burn would covering materials, copoly(N. carbobenzoxy-L-Iysine-L-leucine)s were prepared by Ipolymerization of N - carbobenzoxy-L- I sine anhydride and L-leucine anhydride in homogeneous solvents using triethylamine as an initiator. The synthetic polypeptides and the oxter type polyurethane(PV)of medical grade were used as the sheet type membranes were prepared ; monolayer membrances were composed of only the polypeptides, bilayer membranes and blend membranes were controlled by composition of the polypeptides and PU. Test of the swelling degree, mechanical tensile strength, elongation, oxygen permeability, water-vapor loss and In vitro degradation treated by pretense TV of samples of artificial skin were measured by adequate methods so as to mechanical, physincal characterization and biodegradation. As a result, all the values of samples were found to be similar to desired value of skin which was nature. The Artificial skin based on polypeptides can be considered as ideal burn wound covering materials.

        광합성 박테리아 및 담체를 이용한 하천의 저농도 질소, 인 처리 시스템 개발

        저농도 유기물, 질소, 인 제거를 위하여 독립영양 미생물인 광합성 박테리아를 이용한 회분식 실험 결과 초기값 $COD_{Cr}$ 37.3 mg/L, $NH_3$-N 4.0 mg/L, $PO_4^{3-}$-P 1.0 mg/L (C:N:P=100:10:1) 일 때 각각 87.4%, 46.3%, 79.7% 제거효율을 보였다. 혼합 광합성 박테리아, 세라믹 담체 및 담체 KSP01을 적용한 폭기식 반응기 실험 결과, 평균 유기물 72.7%, 암모니아성 질소 79.2%를 제거하였으며, pH 조절로 인산염 인을 최대 92.6%까지 제거할 수 있었다. 반응기 내 다양한 폭기 조건에서 암모니아성질소 제거를 확인한 결과, 1, 2 반응조에 10.2 L/min로 공기를 주입하였을 때 98.5%로 높은 제거효율을 보여주었다. 또한 하천수 적용시 암모니아성 질소 82.8%의 높은 제거효율을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 개발된 정화 시스템의 현장 적용시 저농도 질소, 인의 높은 제거를 보일 것으로 사료된다. We used phototrophic bacteria to remove low concentrated organic materials (CODCr), nitrogen and phosphorus. We applied $COD_{Cr}$ 37.3 mg/L, $NH_3-N$ 4.0 mg/L, and $PO_4^{3-}-P$ 1.0 mg/L (C:N:P=100:10:1) in the batch test, and the removal efficiencies were shown as follow: $COD_{Cr}$ 87.4%, $NH_3-N$ 46.3%, $PO_4^{3-}-P$ 79.7%. The aerobic process with mixed phototrophic bacteria, ceramic media, and media KSP01 showed the removal efficiencies of $COD_{Cr}$, $NH_3-N$, and $PO_4^{3-}-P$, each as 72.7% and 79.2%, respectively in the lab-scale reactor. The maximum $PO_4^{3-}-P$ removal efficiency reached 92.6% by adjusting pH. There were three conditions used to remove $NH_3-N$. The highest removal efficiency was 98.5% with 10.2 L/min of aeration in 1-2 reactors, and the result of applying river-water showed the high removal efficiency of $NH_3-N$ (82.8%). Therefore, this purification system may be useful to control nitrogen and phosphorus at low concentration in field.
