The great auricular nerve supplies sensation to the lower and posterior part of the auricle and the skin overlying the angle of the mandible, and it is often sacrificed during parotidectomy. The communication between the great auricular nerve and the cervical branch of the facial nerve is a well-known anatomical variation, but that between the mandibular branch of facial nerve and the great auricular nerve is rare. During a superficial parotidectomy for a Warthin’s tumor of the left parotid gland, we found that the anterior division of the great auricular nerve was communicated with mandibular branch of the facial nerve. So we report this case with review of literatrues.

Primary squamous cell carcinoma of thyroid is a very rare malignant tumor with poor prognosis. It is usually diagnosed as an advanced disease infiltrating adjacent organs, and characterized by aggressive clinical course with an average postoperative survival time of less than 1 year. Recently, we had a 79- year-old woman with a painful neck mass who was diagnosed as primary squamous cell carcinoma of thyroid gland. She underwent total thyroidectomy and selective neck dissection(level Ⅲ, Ⅵ) with no further postoperative managements such as radiation therapy or chemotherapy; she died of poor general condition and pneumonia resulting from rapid progression of the lesion on the 38th day after surgery. We report this case with a review of relevant literatures.
Expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene을 이용한 융비술: 재료의 안전성에 대한 10년의 경험

Background and Objectives Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) is an alloplasticimplant widely used in augmentation rhinoplasty. However, ePTFE implant is known to be vulnerableto postoperative infection and inflammation. We aimed to verify the safety of the materialby analyzing the results of augmentation rhinoplasty using ePTFE carried out in a single institutionfor 10 years. Subjects and Method From April 2009 to June 2018, 238 patients who underwent augmentationrhinoplasty with ePTFE were included in the study. There were 187 male patients and 51female patients. Patients’ medical records, preoperative and postoperative photographs wereanalyzed, and postoperative implant migration, inflammation, and infection were investigated. Results Of the 238 patients, 10 underwent revision surgery, and 87 (36.6%) underwent concomitantosteotomy for the correction of the deviated nose. Of the 5 patients (2.1%) who showedpostoperative implant migration, 4 patients belonged to the osteotomy patients group while 1patient belonged to the no-osteotomy group. There was more frequent implant migration inpatients who underwent osteotomy; however, there was no statistically significant difference(p=0.06). In all of the five patients, the degree of implant migration was minimal, therefore nopatient required revision surgery. No inflammatory reaction or infection was found after surgery. Conclusion ePTFE is a safe material for augmentation rhinoplasty and is not susceptible toinfection after surgery if used through appropriate surgical procedures.

Sparganum is the larvae of a parasite called Spirometra. It usually lives in snakes or frogs, which are parasitic on the human who consume them raw. Sparganum is presented with a form of mobile subcutaneous nodule in various parts of human body. A 78 years old man with palpable neck mass visited our clinics. He had a history of eating snakes raw about 50 years ago. He was diagnosed with Sparganosis through a fine needle aspiration biopsy and underwent excisional biopsy. Sparganosis should be considered when dealing subcutaneous palpable neck mass with history of consuming raw snakes or frogs.

This Study was carried out to investigate the optimal mycelial growth of Pholiota nameko. The optimal medium for the mycelial growth was ME medium. The optimal temperature and pH were $25^{\circ}C$$\pm$1 and 5.5, respectively. The modified optimal medium compositions were glucose 3% (w/v), malt extract 0.25% (w/v), yeast extract 0.25% (w/v), $KH_2PO_4$ 0.046% (w/v), $K_2HPO_4$ 0.1% (w/v), $MgSO_4$ㆍ$7H_2O$ 0.05% (w/v). From the result of experiments on the optimal temperature, pH and nutritional requirements, the mycelial growth of modified optimal medium was higher than that of ME medium. 맛버섯( Pholiota nameko KACC50453)의 균사체 배양 특성에 관한 연구 결과 맛버섯 균사체의 배양에 적합한 기본 배지는 ME였으며, 최적 배양 온도는 $25^{\circ}C$, 최적 초기 pH는 5.5였다. 맛버섯 균사체 생장을 위한 최적 배지 조성은 glucose 3%(w/v),malt extrac 0.25%(w/v), yeast extract 0.25%(w/v),$KH_2PO_4$ 0.046%(w/v),$K_2HPO_4$ 0.1%(w/v),$MgSO_4$ $.$$7H_2O$0.05% (w/v)로 나타났다.기본배지(ME)와 최적배지로 액체 배양한 결과 최적 배지에서 균사생장이 양호하였다.

액체배양을 이용한 잣버섯(Lentinus lepideus KACC 50120)의 균사체 생육에 관한 결과로는 최적온도는 $25^{\circ}C$이고, 최적 pH는 5.5이었다. 공시배지중에서 최대 균사 생육을 보인 최적배지는 YMG 배지로 조사되었다. YMG 배지를 기본배지로 하여 영양 요구성 실험을 한 결과 탄소원 선발 및 최적 농도에서는 최적 탄소원은 glucose이고 최적 농도는 4.0%(w/v)이며 질소원 선발 및 최적 농도에서는 malt extract와 yeast extract를 혼합하여 사용하였을 때 최대 균사 생육을 보였고, 상기의 두가지 복합질소원을 1:1의 무게비로 혼합하여 1.5%(w/v)농도로 첨가하였을 때 균사생육이 가장 양호하였다. This study was carried out to get the basic data for the mycelial growth of Lentinus lepideus in liquid culture. The optimal temperature and initial pH of mycelial growth of Lentinus lepideus were $25^{\circ}C$ and pH 5.5, respectively. The optimal medium was YMG medium. Among the carbon sources tested, glucose was effected to the mycelial growth and optimal glucose concentration was 4% (w/v). As nitrogen sources, malt extract and yeast extract appeared to be favorable and optimal malt extract and yeast extract [ratio (w/w) of 1:1] concentration was 1.5% (w/v).
