        Theoretical analysis and experiment for supersonic flow around the wedges have been conducted. Wedges are being used as a means of measuring a flow direction, Mach No., a basic study of inlet or combustion chamber of ramjet and scramjet engine. We use a shock tunnel to get a supersonic flow conditions and schlieren system to visualize supersonic flow field around wedge. Numerical simulation is also conducted by Harten-Yee type 2nd-order Total Variable Diminishing(TVD) scheme and oblique shock theory. Comparison of calculated results with experimental data is in good agreement.

      • 수생식물을 이용한 수질정화 SYSTEM 개발에 관한 연구

        This study focused on the removal of COD, SS, T-N and T-P of home wastewater in batch and continuous culture reactors using parsley. And the amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus in the tissues of parsley were also detected. The results are as follow ; 1. Parsley has achieved 42% COD removal rate, 55% SS, 10% T-P and 41% T-N for 48 hours retention time. Residual concentration was COD 6.1㎎/ℓ, SS ll㎎/ℓ, T-P 1.112㎎/ℓ and T-N 4.9㎎/ℓ respectively. 2. Nitrogen and phosphorous content, accumulated in the tissues of parsley are 40.4% and 9.2% respectively in batch reactor with 48 hours SRT. They are presenting increasing rate 37.6% of nitrogen and 9% of phosphorous, compared with their influent sample, contending 2.8% of nitrogen and 0.19% of phosphorous. 3. Continuous reactor has achieved 42% COD removal rate, 62% SS, 10% T-N, and 46% T-P, Effluent COD concentration was 5.8㎎/ℓ, SS 8.13㎎/ℓ, T-P 0.84㎎/ℓ and T-N 4.09㎎/ℓ.

      • HeLa세포 허족의 액틴 미세섬유에 대한 면역 형광현미경적 연구

        Actin cytoskeletons of HeLa cell-pseudopodia are observed in confocal laser scanning microscopic field after the treatment with monoclonal anti-actin and anti mouse IgG-FITC. The cytoskeletons are then compared with the control group stained with coomassie blue. The network of actin microfilaments in lamellae and meshwork in leading edge can be observed while stress fiber are observed on ventral surface of the cells which are intimately associated with substrate. The meshworks are fine microfilaments embedded in peripheral pale cytoplasm of the pseudopodium, the networks are composed of rather thick cross linked actin microfilaments in the lamellae in the middle cytoplasm. The thicker stress fibers are often adhered to the inside of ventral undulating cell membrane at the peripheral psuedopodium. These actin filaments are conserved especially in microwave field(microwave fixator KC600A). The features of the microfilaments and suggested functions are discussed.

      • 高等學校 文科 學生들의 生命工學과 遺傳工學에 대한 知識과 態度調査

        The major purpose of this study was to identify high school students' knowledge and attitudes on biotechnology/genetic engineering. For this study, a five-page questionnaire was administered to students in two schools. Students' knowledge of biotechnology and genetic engineering were investigated using open questionnaires. And attitudes were investigated using a Likert-type scale. There were 27 statements and students were instructed to tick the relevant box to indicate the extent of their agreement or disagreement with each statement. For this study, total 189 students (92 males and 97 females) in a literary course of grade 12 were sampled from high school in Seoul. The major results of this study are as follows: 1. Many students of the sample did not know what biotechnology of genetic engineering was (21%, 12%, respectively). Of those who claimed to know biotechnology, approximately 52% gave a simplistic explanation in terms of life science. Of those who claimed to know genetic engineering, about 43% of the respondents made reference to manipulating or changing genes. 2. About one third of the sample did not give an example of biotechnology. Of those that could, the most common example was 'Test-tube babies'(51%). Few gave modern examples of biotechnology(less than 12%). About 16% of the sample did not give a single example of genetic engineering. That the example of genetic engineering quoted by 55% of respondents were non-seeded watermelon is misconcepiton. 3. The respondents got information about biotechnology and genetic engineering largely from mass-media (45%). 4. Attitudes of students on biotechnology and genetic engineering were context-dependent. There was broad approval of genetic engineering applied to microbes and plants but not of genetic engineering applied to animals. Respondents, particularly more females than males, were unsupportive of genetic engineering applied to dogs. 5. Attitudes were influenced by the terminology used: statements involving the terms 'biotechnology' and 'selective breeding' led to lower levels of student disagreement than a term such as 'changing genes'.

      • 자연선택 개념의 이해에 대한 횡단적 연구

        Student's misconceptions of scientific phenomena have become an issue at the science education research. Cross-sectional studies are very useful for describing the level of understanding about a particular concept held by students all over the grade. This study aimed to investigate the influence of grade level(amount of instruction) and reasoning ability about the understanding of major concepts(e. g., role of variation, change over time and origin of traits) about natural selection. The type of misconception about natural selection concept held by students across the grade levels was also investigated. Students who served as the subjects of this study were 89 of 7th grade junior high school students, 101 of 10th grade high school students at a same geographical region, 101 of college students. The students were given a battery of tests to assess reasoning ability and understanding of natural selection concept. The major results are as follows: 1. Level of understanding about natural selection with respect to grade level was very poor. Some of errant conceptions was always found in the students of all ages despite the cumulative learning of evolution, 7th grade students and 10th grade students with little science background and motivation and collegiate science majors followed the similar misconceptions about the concept of natural selection. Although the nature of the misconceptions may have changed across the grade levels, the frequency did not decease appropriately. 2. Conceptual changes of major concepts about natural selection showed no statistically significant difference in reasoning ability. But, there seems to be a correlation between a grade level and students' understanding of the concepts. 3. Cross-sectional study showed that students' common misconceptions were teleological and Lamarckian. Nevertheless, it is possible to assert that a shift in students' conceptions takes place from non-scientific categories toward (Variation) category. This will help develop the design of biology curriculum and instructions in schools.

        The aerodynamic study of jetvane type TVC(Thrust Vector Control) were conducted using supersonic cold-flow system. The use of TVC Systems in particular jet vanes, are currently being researched for use in air launch, ship launch, underwater launch and high altitude maneuvering of tactical missiles and rockets. The necessity to generate control forces to rapidly change the course of the missile is frequently required when traditional, exterior aerodynamic surfaces are unable to produce these forces, when the flow over the control surface is insufficient. This situation can occur at launch, or high angles of attack of the control surfaces. Jetvanes performed well at all altitudes and environmental conditions, and jet vanes are extremely effective at deflection angles up to as high as 30 degrees, make them ideal for the launch and maneuver applications. In this study, aerodynamic performance test of jetvane type TVC was conducted, and The effect of shape and deflection angle of various types of jetvanes are investigated

      • 과학 성취도에 영향을 미치는 전두엽 연합령의 기능에 대한 종단적 연구

        The purpose of this study was to longitudinally analyze influences of functional prefrontal lobe on science achievement in middle school students. In this longitudinal study, 47 students(male 19, female 27) were sampled in local area. The students were administered test of GALT(group assessment of logical thinking), CTST(classroom test of scientific test), FIT(figural intersection test), GEFT(group embedded figural intersection test), TOL(tower of London), WCST(Wisconsin card sorting test) at December 1997 and 1999. It is substitute science achievement for science grade each year. The resulted that prefrontal lobe was influenced upon science achievement. Science achievement statistically significant correlated with functional prefrontal lobe, specially logical thinking level, scientific reasoning, perseveration error. And, the development of functional prefrontal lobe functions did not only linear, but also each function has differ with development speed and period. School science classroom was suited high level students. Who has been grade C and D in first-grade, they did not improved. A first-grade achievement effect on science achievement. And also scientific reasoning ability effect on science achievement.

        An theoretical study of the strength of hybrid coupled shear wall connections is achieved. The bearing stress at failure in the concrete below the steel coupling beam section is related to the concrete compressive strength and the ratio of the width of the steel coupling beam section to the width of the hybrid coupled shear wall. Also experimental studies are achieved to revise shear transfer strength across connections between coupled shear walls and steel coupling beam. The main test variables were auxiliary details of stud bolts. In this studies. these proposed equations are shown to be in good agreement with the test results reported in the paper and with other test data in the literature.

        하계 실내 및 실외환경의 공기 중 휘발성 유기화합물 농도 및 개인노출

        Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are present in essentially all natural and synthetic materials from petrol to flowers. In this study, indoor and outdoor VOCs concentrations of houses, offices and internet-cafes were measured and compared simultaneously with personal exposures of each 50 participants in Asan and Seoul, respectively. Also, factors that influence personal VOCs exposure were statistically analyzed using questionnaires in relation to house characteristics, time activities, and health effects. All VOCs concentrations were measured by OVM passive samplers (3M) and analyzed with GC/MS. Target pollutants among VOCs were Toluene, o-Xylene, m/p-Xylene, Ethylbenzene, MIBK, n-Octane, Styrene, Trichloroethylene, and 1,2-Dichlorobenzene. Indoor and outdoor VOCs concentrations measured in Seoul were significantly higher than those in Asan except Ethylbenzene. Residential indoor/outdoor (I/O) ratios for all target compounds ranged from 0.94 to 1.51 and I/O ratios of Asan were a little higher than those of Seoul. Relationship between personal VOCs exposure, and indoor and outdoor VOCs concentrations suggested that time-activity pattern could affect the high exposure to air pollutant. Factors that influence indoor VOCs level and personal exposure with regard to house characteristics in houses were building age, inside smoking and house type. In addition insecticide and cosmetics interestingly affected the VOCs personal exposure. Higher exposure to VOCs might be caused to be exciting increase and memory reduction, considering the relationship between measured VOCs concentrations and questionnaire (p<0.05).

        Theoretical analysis, design and evaluation of a supersonic cold-flow system were conducted. It is designed to study of jet-vane for Thust Vector Control system, but a design process is similar general that of supersonic cold-flow system. The nozzle for this system was designed same exit Mach number as that of real rocket motor, because the jet boundary of designed nozzle approximated to real jet boundary very closely. The working gas is air exit Mach No. is 2.88, and nozzle chamber volume is 1.5ℓ. From the result, proper test time is about 0.3 seconds, low pressure chamber pressure and the measured axial thrust are appeared to 83% and 83.7% of the theoretical data respectively. It is due to pressure loss in sudden divergent-convergent section.
