Moral and ethical problems and dilemmas in the biological field have been increased continually due to the explosion of biological knowledges and the development of technology. Accordingly many controversial issues which need biological and medical knowledges to solve them are occurring with many concerns and anxieties of citizens. The development of decision making abilities to be able to use scientific and technological knowledges meeting these social problem situations is one of the objectives of science education. This study analyzed the content category and the degree of decision making activities among investigating activities contained in 'Common Science' and 'Biology I' textbooks whose goals are set to develop scientific and biological literacy. The result shows that decision making activities are about 10% of total investigating activities and most of them are under the inquiry situations. For analyzing the knowledge category the integrating principles by BSCS were used as the authority and the result shows that most of contents related with decision making activities fall under interaction & interdependence. genetic continuity and reproduction, energy, matter and organization, maintenance of a dynamic equilibrium categories. Considering the result it is expected that more concrete programs for decision making activities will be developed and contained in biological textbooks of the 7th biological curriculum which aim to develop students' scientific and biological literacy.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of decision-making activities on ambivalence of the attitudes. To study this purpose, 105 students in high schools were enrolled as subjects for the study which investigated(pre, post, follow-up) 'interventions of man in nature' were made by Dreyfus and Roth(1991). The experimental group consisted of two classes of students who participated in decision-making activities. The mean of ambivalence was very low. Ambivalence of the attitudes of experimental group were higher than control group. But, difference on ambivalence of the attitudes between control and experimental group were not statistical significance in most of topics. Global view of experimental group was significantly higher than control group at follow-up test.
과학적 규칙성 지식의 생성 과정 : 경향성 지식의 생성을 중심으로 Focused on the Generation of Scientific Pattern-Knowledge

The purpose of this study was to suggest a grounded theory on the process of undergraduate students' generating pattern-knowledge about scientific episodes. The pattern-discovery tasks were administered to seven college students majoring in elementary education. The present study found that college students show five types of procedural knowledge represented in the process of pattern-discovery, such a s element, elementary variation, relative prior knowledge, predictive-pattern, and final pattern-knowledge. Furthermore, subjects used seven types of thinking ways, such as recognizing objects, recalling knowledges, searching elementary variation, predictive-pattern discovery, confirming a predictive-pattern, combining patterns, and selecting a pattern. In addition, pattern-discovering process involves a systemic process of element, elementary variation, relative prior knowledge, generating and confirming predictive-pattern, and selecting final pattern-knowledge. The processes were shown the abductive and deductive reasoning as well as inductive reasoning. This study also discussed the implications of these findings for teaching and evaluating in science education.
과학 성취도에 영향을 미치는 전두엽 연합령의 기능에 대한 종단적 연구

This study on development of modelling for field trips in parts of animal, which are diversity of life, classification of animals and various life in biology. To get a basic data from students of middle and high school on rural and urban areas, we did a census to them total 631 individuals in both girls and boys. So that we could get a results as follows: 1. The rate of experience of seeing on specimens in anywhere, rural higher than urban areas by environmental difference. 2. Students prefers to field trips than get a class in school. 3. Also they likes to mammals, especially, dogs, for it is contacts with them frequently. So students have to get a frequent and enough times to reach to effects of learners achievement. 4. We has to develop a model of teaching in field learning.

The purpose of this study was to longitudinally analyze influences of functional prefrontal lobe on science achievement in middle school students. In this longitudinal study, 47 students(male 19, female 27) were sampled in local area. The students were administered test of GALT(group assessment of logical thinking), CTST(classroom test of scientific test), FIT(figural intersection test), GEFT(group embedded figural intersection test), TOL(tower of London), WCST(Wisconsin card sorting test) at December 1997 and 1999. It is substitute science achievement for science grade each year. The resulted that prefrontal lobe was influenced upon science achievement. Science achievement statistically significant correlated with functional prefrontal lobe, specially logical thinking level, scientific reasoning, perseveration error. And, the development of functional prefrontal lobe functions did not only linear, but also each function has differ with development speed and period. School science classroom was suited high level students. Who has been grade C and D in first-grade, they did not improved. A first-grade achievement effect on science achievement. And also scientific reasoning ability effect on science achievement.
