        The laying cost for the pipe line pressed by a pump is depend on the costs for the pump and pipes. The most economical pipe diameter is obtained when the summation of costs for the pump and pipes is minimum. Author studied on the most economical pipe diameters of PVC and cast-iron pipe lines in the water supply works, and obtained the general and occasional formula based on our social situations.

      • 대퇴골 전자간 골절을 동반한 고령의 환자에서 시행한 슬관절 전치환술

        Purpose: To analyze the clinical results of total knee arthroplasty In elderly patients who had arthritic knees and intertrochanteric fractures. Materials and Methods: From fan 1992 to March 1999, 27 cases of the patients with arthritic knees and associated intertrochanteric fractures were treated by total knee arthroplasties and we evaluated the patients by Knee Score of American Knee Society. Results: Flexion contracture was improved from 10.3 degree to 5.2 degree, KSS score was improved from 57.4 points to 78.6 points, authors' evaluation system score was improved from 50.3 points to 73.2 points. Conclusion: In elderly patients with arthritic knees and associated intertrochanteric fractures, total knee arthroplasty seemed to decrease the rehabilitation time and allow earl weight bearing, so provide an improvement in quality of life.

        The general Hough transform was not influenced to detect the external circle and ellipse for when the circle and ellipse was detected by the external noises, it was filtered in various way, and the rest image had inclused trouble in detecting, for it was regarded as the intinernal noises. So, this paper suggests the new algoritsm to detect another circle existing inside and to remove not from the general method but from the original image when the external circle detected is excluded.

      • Susceptibility of pine sawyer, Monochamus saltuarius adults (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) to commercially registered insecticides

        This study was performed to investigate the toxicity of 39 registered insecticides to the susceptibility, systemic effect, and residual effect and control effect against Pine sawyer beetle, Monochamus saltuarius. Eleven kinds of chemicals such as fenitrothion, fenthion, phenthoate, phosphamidon, dinotefuran, actamiprid, clothianidin, thiacloprid, thiamethoxam, esfenvalerate + fenitrothion, and fipronil were showed 100% insecticidal activity both in body spray and twig dipping bioassay. Among these chemicals, fenitrothion and fenthion were showed 100 % insecticidal activity when sprayed at 4000 times diluted solutions, and phenthoate, thiacloprid, thiamethoxam and fipronil were showed 100% insecticidal activity when sprayed at 2000 times diluted solution. Root systemic effect was showed 100% mortality in phosphamidon, clothianidin, thiamethoxam, and 77.7% in thiacloprid. In residual effect, fenitrothion and thiamethoxam were showed 80% mortality fifteen days after treatment (DAT), and fenthion, phosphamidon, clothianidin were showed 80% mortality ten DAT, fenitrothion, thiamethoxam, fipronil showed 100% mortality in seven DAT, thiacloprid was showed 100% mortality in three DAT. Fenthion and phenthoate were showed 100% mortality one DAT. In the control effect, 6 kinds of chemicals were showed 100% mortality one DAT and all chemicals showed 100% mortality three DAT.

      • The Effect of Menisci on Kinetic Analysis of Evaporation for Molten Alkali Metal Salts (CsNO<sub>3</sub>, CsCl, LiCl, and NaCl) in Small Cylindrical Containers

        <P>Using isothermal thermogravimetric data of alkali metal salts (CsNO3, CsCl, LiCl, and NaCl), we conducted kinetic analysis on atmospheric evaporation to investigate the effect of meniscus on determining the condensation coefficient. In the process of evaporation into an atmospheric gas, molten salt decomposed at the interface between molten salt and an atmospheric gas reacts with chemical compositions of the atmospheric gas to be an equilibrium state. In this atmospheric evaporation, the interface shape of molten salts is affected by the container diameter and the contact angle at the container wall. In the analysis results, the formed concave/convex meniscus led to underestimating the condensation coefficient of molten salts. However, whether the values of the condensation coefficient of molten salts were affected by menisci, the range of the predicted values was still low from 10<SUP>−3</SUP> to 10<SUP>−5</SUP>. This result means that the presence of the foreign gas (air and Ar) is a dominant parameter in determining the condensation coefficient of atmospheric evaporation.</P>

      • Stacked double-walled carbon nanotube sheet electrodes for electrochemically harvesting thermal energy

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Nanocarbon based electrodes have led to remarkable improvements in the performance of thermoelectrochemical cells (TECs), which are able to electrochemically harvest low-grade waste thermal energy. However, the highly tortuous ionic pathways of the electrodes limit the output current from the TECs by reducing the reaction rate inhibited by a concentration gradient in the electrode. In this work, we investigate an electrode structure that facilitates efficient ion transport by sequentially stacking highly aligned double-walled carbon nanotube (DWCNT) sheets. The performance of the TEC is evaluated with respect to the number of DWCNT stacks and the lamination orientation in a parallel or orthogonal direction. As the number of stacks increases from 1 to 3 layers oriented in parallel, the output power increases from 113 to 187 mW/m<SUP>2</SUP> at a small temperature difference of 22 °C. The output power with 3-layer DWCNT sheets can be further improved to 200 mW/m<SUP>2</SUP> by implementing an orthogonal lamination. The significance of electrode tortuosity presented here would be useful in electrode design as a way to improve energy harvesting performance. The results should also provide a basis for devising electrochemical devices with highly porous nanocarbon electrodes.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        글루코스와 피부르산염의 농도가 조절된 DMEM과 Vero 세포를 이용한 무혈청 적응용 배양액의 개발에 관한 연구

        목적: 본 연구는 글루코스와 피부르산염이 조절된 DMEM을 이용해 Vero 세포를 배양한 후 무혈청 적응용 배양액 (Serum-free Vero cell conditioned medium, SF-VCM)을 얻어 생쥐의 착상 전 생쥐 배아의 체외발달에 미치는 효과를 보기 위해 수행되었다. 연구 방법: 총 846개의 2-세포기 배아를 4~5주령의 ICR 계통 생쥐로부터 얻었다. 글루타민만 함유되어 있는 DMEM (DMEM-G)과 글루타민, 글루코스 및 피부르산염을 함유하고 있는 DMEM (DMEM-GGP)을 각각 3:1 (#1), 1:1 (#2) 및 1:3 (#3)의 비율로 혼합한 배양액을 제조하였다. Vero 세포 단층이 형성된 배양용기에 DMEM #1 배양액을 각각 10 mL, 30 mL 및 50 mL 씩넣어 48시간 배양 후 회수하여 보관하였다가 사용하였으며, 각각의 배양액에 생쥐배아를 배양하여 48시간 및 96시간에 발달을 비교하였다. 또한 20% 난포액을 함유하고 있는 DMEM #2 배양액을 Vero 세포와 공배양한 군을 대조군으로 하여 각각 DMEM #1, #2 및 #3 배양액으로 제조된 3가지 SF-VCM에도 생쥐배아를 배양하여 발달을 서로 비교하였다. Vero 세포와의 공배양군을 제외하고 모든 실험군에는 10% SSS를 첨가하여 사용하였다. 결과에 대한 유의성 검증은 Chi-square test를 이용하였고, P 값이 0.05 이하일 때 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 판정하였다. 결과: DMEM #1 배양액 30 mL를 넣은 군에서 각 단계 발달률 (상실배아≤: 97.2%, 주머니배≤: 97.2%, 탈출 주머니배≤: 82.2%)이 다른 실험군들에 비해 유의하게 높게 나타났다 (P<0.05). Vero 세포와의 공배양과 다양한 SF-VCM에서 생쥐 배아의 체외배양 효과를 비교한 결과에서는 DMEM #1 배양액으로 제조된 SF-VCM #1 실험군 (Group I)에서 각 단계별 발달률 (상실배아≤: 98.1%, 주머니배≤: 97.1%, 탈출 주머니배≤: 81.7%)이 다른 실험군들에 비해 높게 나타났으며, 배양 96시간 후탈출 주머니배 이상으로의 발달에서는 대조군 (67.6%)보다 유의하게 높은 발달률을 나타내었다 (P<0.05). 결론: Vero 세포 단층이 형성된 배양용기에 DMEM #1 배양액을 사용하여 SF-VCM을 제조하는 경우 250 mL 플라스크에 30mL의 용량으로 배양하는 것이 가장 효과적이며, 이는 다른 농도의 배양액에 비해 더 높은 체외 발달률을 유도 할 수 있어 사람의 시험관 아기 시술에서 응용해 볼 만한 가치가 있을 것이라 사료된다. Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine in vitro development of early preimplantation mouse embryos in various kind of serum-free conditioned media (SF-VCM) manufactured from DMEM cultured with Vero Cells. Methods: A total of 846 two-cell mouse embryos were cultured in different kind of SF-VCM. SF-VCMs were divided into SF-VCM-10, -30 and -50 by media volume using DMEM #1 media, and divided into SF-VCM #1, #2 and #3 by controlled concentration of glucose and pyruvate (manufactured by DMEM #1: mixed three volume of DMEM-G (DMEM with glutamine without glucose and pyruvate) and one volume of DMEM-GGP (DMEM with glutamine, glucose, pyruvate), #2: mixed same volume of DMEM-G and DMEM-GGP and #3: mixed one volume of DMEM-G and three volume of DMEM-GGP, respectively). Experimental groups were mainly added 10% SSS, and 20% hFF was added to only Control group co-cultured with Vero cells. Development of embryos was observed every 24 hours. Results between different groups were analyzed using Chi-square test, and considered statistically significant when P-value was less than 0.05. Results: In vitro developmental rate by each cleavage stages of mouse embryos cultured in SF-VCMs with a various volumes were significantly (P<0.05) higher in SF-VCM-30 (morula≤: 97.2%, Blastocyst (BL)≤: 97.2%, Hatching BL≤: 82.2%) than other groups. In the rate of development on in vitro co-culture vs. a various SF-VCMs manufactured by DMEM controlled concentration of glucose and pyruvate, Group I (SF-VCM #1) was higher than other groups in each cleavage stages (morula≤: 98.1%, Blastocyst (BL)≤: 97.1%, hatching BL≤: 81.7%, respectively). Moreover, specially, in the developmental rate into the hatching blastocyst ≤after 96 hours in vitro culture, Group I (81.7%) was significantly higher than control group (67.6%, P<0.05). Conclusion: SF-VCM #1 manufactured by volume of 30 mL DMEM #1 media cultured in vitro for 48 hours in 250 mL flask was the most effective on in vitro developmental rate of mouse preimplantation embryos. Therefore, it is expected that SF-VCM #1 has application to human IVF-ET.
