        Reverse logistics has not received much attention from the industry practitioners so far but this has been started to change. Nowadays, many corporate executives realize the value of reverse logistics and they are trying to leverage reverse logistics as their competitive advantage. In this research, we have reviewed the impact of reverse logistics to the corporate competitiveness as well as the basics of reverse logistics. Based on this research, we argue that the followings are core factors of streamlining the reverse flow: the centralized reverse process and its operation, assigning designated personnel for reverse logistics, clarifying the reverse related process, integrating reverse process into other business process, and real-time information visibility. It is critical to secure collaboration across the entire corporate organization including customer related department, financial department, and high executives. Without these collaboration, reverse flows can not play as a profit generating process, limiting its capability as to a simple return process.

        국제기업의 역 물류 실행 결정요인과 성과에 관한 연구

        Purpose-This paper aims to analyze decisive factors which facilitate the greater implementation of reverse logistics and how the successive reverse logistics implementation can help firms to improve organizational performance. This paper also examines whether reverse logistics plays a mediating role between internal and external factors and firm performance. Design/methodology/approach-This study collected survey data from international logistics companies which implement reverse logistics. This study analyzed the hypothesized relationship between internal/external factors, reverse logistics implementation and firm performance empirically using regression analysis. Findings-The results showed that the information technology, the quality and quantity in the reverse logistics network had a positive effect on the reverse logistics implementation. The mediating effect of reverse logistics implementation between internal/external factors and firm performance has also been showed. The findings of this study may ensure that there are positive associations between internal/external factors in the company, reverse logistics implementation and the performance of the company. Research implications or Originality-This result may provide meaningful practical implications to logistics managers by highlighting the importance of effective reverse logistics implementation in improving a company’s performance.

        한국 폐전자제품의 회수물류 활성화 방안에 관한 연구

        Korea is changing its way to the sustainable development as the paradigm of global economy. It is natural that the amount of E-waste increases due to the short replacement cycle of electronic products. As a result, the needs for securing energy resources and preserving environment from E-waste is increasing the significance of the reverse logistics. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the acceleration of sustainable development by proposing some ways to vitalize the efficient reverse logistics and preparing the ground for a sustainable economic growth in Korea. This paper reviews the status of the reverse logistics in Korea, Japan and Netherlands and finds the problems and solutions in laws, information system and transportation system of E-waste for the efficient reverse logistics. Consequently, to vitalize the reverse logistics of E-waste, Korean government needs to strengthen the legislative system of reverse logistics, to support improved information system of reverse logistics, to integrate reverse logistics system, and to cultivate national consciousness for reverse logistics management. It needs to be in line with each other between government agencies as well.

        전자상거래의 역물류 최소화를 위한 효율적 관리방안

        온라인 시장은 비대면 거래와 한정적인 시장의 규모로 인해 오프라인시장의 보조적 역할로 자리매김해 왔다. 그러나 전자상거래의 많은 장점에도 불구하고, 전자상거래의 동시 다발적 물류의 발생흐름은 전자상거래 상품의 가격 상승과 이로 인한 잠재적 구매 고려로 이어져 전자상거래 활성화에 걸림돌로 작용되어 왔다. 또한 이러한 순흐름 방향의 물류발생이외에도 역물류 발생 자체가 상품 가격의 상승으로 이어지고, 역물류 발생 우려에 대한 잠재적 불안이 소비자의 구매 자체를 저해하는 요인이 되어왔다. 전자상거래 역물류를 발생시키는 원인에는 제품불량, 제품 부적합, 기대이하의 제품, 더 나은 거래 조건의 등장 등이 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 더 나아가 전자상거래 제품 선택에 대한 인지적 능력에 대한 높은 요구 그리고 비대면 거래의 특성, 상품지표 역할의 부족으로 인한 제품 채택의 어려움이 역물류 발생 원인으로 조사되었다. 본 연구 목적은 전자상거래 특히, B2C거래 중심의 역물류 발생원인을 살펴보고, 역물류 발생 원인을 제거 하여 역물류 발생을 최소화할 수 있는 요인을 찾고, 역물류의 효율적 관리 방안을 제시함으로써 이에 대한 최소화 방안을 연구하여 역물류 발생자체를 억제하는데 있다. 그러나 현상의 발생과 대안이 선행연구의 부족에 따라 연구자의 주관적 견해가 많아, 이를 발전시켜 설문조사와 실증분석을 통해 입증하고, 세분화 하는 것이 향후 연구 방향이라 하겠다. Since 2000, e-commerce has been increased continuously in its quantity and quality. The growth of e-commerce has resulted in some diversities of distribution channels, and its characteristics of not-spot trading and limited market scale has urged the on-line market to play a role of assistance to off-line market. e-Commerce causes not only the flow of forward logistics, but also that of reverse logistics with every purchasing, which is a very critical factor to hesitate for consumers to purchase the products as well as increase the price of the products. Concern about the reverse logistics by sellers and buyers influences the level of price and purchasing activity of consumers. This study firstly is to lift the awareness of the efficient control of reverse logistics with reviewing the recent change of logistics environment and phenomena of reverse logistics. Secondly we find the factors generating the reverse logistics and look into its questions, and thirdly offer not only the ways to minimize the phenomena of reverse logistics, but also a efficient control system for reverse logistics. We additionally aim to contribute to prevent the price of the products from rising and raise the customers' satisfaction through minimizing the phase of reverse logistics.

        리버스물류(reverse logistics)에서 환경문제대응형태가 리버스물류정보시스템과 리버스 물류 성과에 미치는 영향

        지속가능발전을 위하여 자원순환형 경제사회시스템이 환경 친화적으로 구축이 요구되고 있다. 이를 위하여 기업에서는 투입자원을 최소화하고 가능한한 자원을 재사용, 재활용하기 위한 리버스 물류의 중요성이 증가하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 리버스 물류에 있어서 기업의 환경문제 대응형태가 물류정보시스템 활용과 리버스물류 성과에 미치는 효과, 물류정보시스템 활용수준과 리버스물류성과의 상호관계와 그 영향요인을 분석하여 방향을 제시하고자 하는데 있다. 이 목적을 달성하기 위하여 문헌연구와 실증연구를 병행하였다. 본 연구는 기존의 물류연구들과 달리 리버스 물류에서 환경문제 대응형태에 따른 영향을 분석하였다는데 의의가 있다고 하겠다. The resource recycling system of economy and society is demanded in the environmental conscious way for sustainable development, and the importance of reverse logistics has been increased for corporations to minimize resources invested, and reuse or recycle them as much as they can. In this paper, we are to present a direction to progress, analyzing the effects and the mutual relationship between the responding type of a company to environmental problems, utilization of the logistics information system and reverse logistics performance. To do this, reviews of literature and statistical analysis were carried out side by side. The significance of this study is to analyze responding types to environmental problems in reverse logistics, levels of utilizing logistics information system, and effects on reverse logistics, unlike existing studies on logistics.

      • Managing e-waste via ANP-based Reverse Logistics Model

        Recently, environmental problem is a big issue regardless of in developed or in developing countries. A fast developing technology in electronics areas has changed a new product into an electronic-waste (e-waste) in a short period. With logistics issue, reverse logistics attract a big concern on top of the forward logistics. Reverse logistics is the process of moving goods from their typical final destination for the purpose of capturing value, reuse or proper disposal. Remanufacturing and refurbishing activities also may be included in the definition of reverse logistics. In order to solve problems with multiple criteria, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) has been widely used. However, AHP assumes no feedback loop and independence among criteria. To solve problems of multiple criteria with feedback and interdependence, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) can be used. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the reverse logistic problems regarding the e-waste using A%P. Management issues regarding the e-waste are surveyed. Also, decision making criteria for reverse logistics are analyzed using A%P model. As a demonstration, reverse supply chain is analyzed using a used cell phone.

      • 물류원가 절감을 위한 최적 재고관리시스템 모델구축에 관한 연구

        오늘날 기업환경은 순방향물류(Forward Logistics)와 역방향물류(Reverse Logistics)의 흐름이 동시에 발생하고 이를 분리해서 물류 체인을 구성할 경우, 각각의 물류 흐름은 최적화될 수 있지만, 기업의 전체물류 체인은 최적화 될 수 없다. 따라서 두 물류 체인을 통합해서 자원 순환형공급사슬(CLSC: closed-loop supply chain) 을 구성하는 것은 기업의 비용절감을 위해서 반드시 필요한 요소이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 순환형공급사슬의 환경에서 순방향물류의 도매점과 역방향물류의 처리센터에서 재고를 통합하여 관리함으로써 수요에 따른 재고가 모자란 경우 순방향물류의 제조업자에게 가져올 것인지, 역방향물류의 회수센터에서 사용이 끝난 제품의 회수를 기다릴 것인지를 선택함으로써 비용을 절감하고, 순방향물류의 소매점과 역방향물류의 회수센터를 통합함으로써 시설운영비용 또한 절감하는 모델을 구축하였다. 또한, 제안 모델의 유효성을 검증하기 위하여 최적화 기법중 하나인 유전적 알고리즘(Genetic Algorithm: GA)을 이용하였으며, GA의 파라미터를 적절하게 조정하여 해의 질을 높이고 시뮬레이션 계산 시간을 단축하는 하이브리드 GA (Hybrid Genetic Algorithm:hGA)를 제안하였다. The flows of Forward Logistics and Reverse Logistics occurs a business environment simultaneously today. When this is separated and it constitutes a logistics chain, the flow of each logistics can be optimized. However, the whole company logistics chain cannot be optimized. Therefore, it is an element certainly required for the cost cutter of a company that two logistics chains are unified and constitutes a resource closed-loop supply chain (CLSC). In this study, inventory is unified and managed in the environment of CLSC in the DCs of forward logistics, and the processing center of reverse logistics. As a result, when the inventory is insufficient, expense will be reduced by choosing whether it waits for recovery of end-of-products whether to bring from manufacturer of forward logistics by returning center of reverse logistics. Moreover, the model which reduces operating cost is built by unifying the retailer of forward logistics, and the returning center of reverse logistics. Finally, in order to verify the validity of a proposal model, genetic algorithm (GA) which is one in optimization technique was used. Proposed Hybrid genetic algorithm (hGA) has the strong point which adjusts the parameter of GA appropriately, raises the quality of a solution, and shortens simulation computation time.

        통합공급사슬에서 다기능 물류시설의 최적 용량 계획 및 운영전략에 관한 연구

        The rapid globalization and industrialization have improved the quality of life, increased the level of consumption, and caused various environmental and social problems. It has increased the interests and request on the sustainability. In order to enhance the sustainability and competitive advantage at the same time, most of companies have adopted the concept of reverse logistics, which is required to reuse, refine and re-manufacture the returned product as well as the forward logistics for new products. They have built the closed loop supply chain which both functions are included. Generally, the reverse logistics requires its own facility. But in order to efficiently utilize the limited resource and respond to the market demand, companies have designed the hybrid logistics facility, which can treat both forward logistics and reverse logistics at the same time. In this research, it is the ultimate goal to design the optimal capacity of the hybrid logistics facility, as the components of closed loop supply chain. It has been proposed the mathematical model to adjust the capacity of logistics center according to the demand of new products from the forward logistics and returned products from the reverse logistics. The confirmed capacity plan may cause the over-supply or insufficient supply, and the optimal solution of the mathematical model can minimize the total cost from the unmatched capacities. It seems to be possible to apply the proposed mathematical model and the way to find the optimal solution for making plan to operate the resource which can process several different functions. 급격한 세계화와 산업화는 삶의 질 개선뿐만 아니라 소비 수준 증가와 함께 다양한 환경적·사회적 문제를 일으키게 되었으며, 이는 지속가능성에 대한 관심과 요구 증대로 이어지게 되었다. 지속가능성과 글로벌 시장에서 경쟁력을 동시에 갖추기 위해 여러 기업들은 신제품의 생산과 유통을 의미하는 순물류와 함께 이미 소비된 제품의 회수, 재가공 및 재활용을 의미하는 역물류라는 개념을 도입하였으며, 두 가지 기능을 동시에 고려하는 통합공급사슬을 구현하기 위해 노력하고 있다. 역물류를 위해서는 별도의 시설을 필요로 하나, 제한된 자원의 효율적 활용과 신속한 시장 대응을 위해 신제품과 회수된 제품을 동시에 처리할 수 있는 다기 능 물류시설 (Hybrid Logistics Facility)의 운영이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 통합공급사슬 내 새로운 제품과 소비자로부터 회수한 제품이 입고 및 처리되는 다기능 물류시설(Hybrid Logistics Facility)의 최적 용량계획을 수립한다. 신제품과 회수되는 제품의 수요 변화에 따라 탄력적으로 물류시설 내 용량을 유연하게 조정하기 위한 계획을 수립하기 위한 수리모형을 제안하였다. 수립된 용량 계획은 수요 변동에 따라 초과 용량과 부족 용량이 발생할 수 있으며 이로 인해 발생하는 전체 비용을 최소화하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 물류시설 내 다양한 기능을 처리할 수 있는 자원의 운영 계획 수립에 본 연구에서 제안된 모형과 최적해 도출방안이 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

        회수물류에서 물류자원, 물류능력, 성과의 관계

        본 연구는 자동차부품업체의 회수물류에서 물류자원, 물류의 능력, 성과의 관계를 자원기반이론에 근거하여 연구하였다. 회수물류에서 자원기반이론에 근거한 선행연구가 없기 때문에 기존의 다양한 분야의 연구들을 참조하여 이를 회수물류에 적용하였다. 본 연구의 수행을 위하여 설문지를 작성하고, 자료를 수집하여 PASW를 이용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 통계적으로 유의한 수준(0.05)에서 내적인 자원인 유형적인 자원과 무형적인 자원, 그리고 외적자원과 전략적 제휴는 각각 회수물류정보능력과 회수물류혁신능력에 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 그리고 회수물류정보능력과 회수물류 혁신능력은 회수물류 성과인 효과성에 정(+)의 영향을 미치고 있었지만, 효율성에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 분석되었다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 시사점과 연구의 한계점 및 향후 연구방향을 제시하였다. The purpose of this article was to study the relationships of internal resource such as tangible, intangible resource, strategic alliance, logistics capability, and performance in reverse logistics of automobile aftermarket industry according to the resource-based view. Linear regression method was used to analysis the relationship between independent variables and dependent factor. Results indicate that internal resource such as tangible, intangible resource, strategic alliance positively influence reverse logistics-related information capability and innovation capability at the significant level(0.05). And reverse logistics-related information capability and innovation capability positively influence effectiveness as performance. But reverse logistics-related information capability and innovation capability does not influence efficiency as performance. The results of this empirical study provide the based perceptions for conducting future strategic planning of reverse logistics. But only 109 samples were used in this study because of data collection constraints in automobile aftermarket industry. Therefore future research should extend to other industries which should help to secure a larger sample size.
